  1. @Archaeodan haha oh no! Well, it doesn’t matter because you got an interview! :~D
  2. Ahh, so happy for you! Did you have contact with a POI before submitting an app?
  3. peterson's has a grad school search where you can look up statistics of acceptances by school and dept. Not all of them volunteered this information, but hope this helps!
  4. Anyone want to claim that Penn State interview? Congrats!
  5. For those of you looking for something to do, here is a link to Peterson's that have most of the PhD schools for anthropology. Most of the schools include the number of applications they received, along with how many people they accepted. Granted, the top schools may be admitting a lot of the same people, but the statistics could be worse! How do your schools fare? A lot of mine hovered right around 20% to 25%. 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 isn't TOO terrible. Just terrifying. https://www.petersons.com/search/schools?searchtype=26&page=1&result=50&criteria=4-majors:anthropology;12-degreeTypes:doctorate
  6. Ooof, I would sit down with her and kindly ask her not to tell everyone. I could see that being a lot of pain down the line if for some reason, you weren't admitted anywhere. I've barely told anyone. But, people are starting to find out because we have to explain why we aren't making future plans for things in our city later in the year. Up until a few weeks ago, the only people who knew were my husband, my best friend, my parents, and his parents. My husband's friends know now, and it makes me pretty uncomfortable because I'm concerned about not being accepted anywhere. My husband has a very judgmental friend who has made very flippant comments about my line of work and how his wife is better than me. Which is laughable. I don't take those comments to heart, but I would still rather not have to deal with his lack of etiquette.
  7. It looks like there are two more interviews for University of Minnesota! Hopefully other schools will notify even sooner than anticipated
  8. That's right, and it's University of Michigan
  9. @GreenEyedTrombonist, thank you!! You're too sweet
  10. All I want in 2018 is a fully funded offer from any of my schools! I'm not even picky, just one!
  11. @GreenEyedTrombonist I've long succumbed to checking the results page multiple times a day... I know the earliest I would hear back is mid-January, but it doesn't stop me in the slightest. The only thing distracting me from all of this is HQ Trivia, online shopping, and eating like a kid in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.
  12. Thank you @TakeruK and @TrustYourGut, I really appreciate it! Now to wait and see if I actually get any interviews...
  13. I wanted to ask this in advance, in the wonderful event that I do get interview offers! So, I am having surgery to remove a tumor on my pituitary gland at the end of January, which is unfortunately when interviews are commonly offered/taking place. This neurosurgery has an average one month recovery time, and I doubt I will be functional enough for an interview. If I get an offer, would it be horrible to ask for a Skype interview early/asap instead of an in-person interview? Would this take me out of consideration for a position? I'll be fine in a month, but I won't be able to fly, have lots of screen time, etc. I would absolutely love to be able to go, but my surgery is time sensitive, and I essentially HAVE to have it done between Jan 15-30th and not doing the surgery would be life altering.
  14. All applications are submitted, and school admin are back! Now, to pass time patiently...
  15. I just have one more app and two scholarship essays to go... Almost there! Hopefully we all start hearing back early Jan for interviews. @Bschaefer, have you heard from Brown about interviews?
  16. I don't think it will become buried, @waltzforzizi! Can't wait to hear about everybody's results; January will be here quick
  17. So, I received an email notifying me that they’ve created a student number for me... and how to apply for housing/financial aid, should I choose to attend. It didn’t say anything about me being accepted. Am I reading too much into this??? Is it common practice to assign student numbers to applicants? It seems counterintuitive.
  18. Hey everyone, I figured we should start a thread where we could report interviews and admissions results for 2018. That way, it won’t get buried in the other threads!
  19. I didn't, I couldn't find any professors with interests similar to my proposed project :/
  20. Oh my goodness, CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy and excited for you You can officially breathe a sigh of relief haha, I'm so jealous!
  21. IT'S HAPPENING. I was browsing through results this morning and saw that there was an interview offer for someone in Bio Anth at University of Minnesota. Can I start freaking out now??? Anyone else hear about interviews? It seems so soon!
  22. @sideeye_emoji and @SmallAxe Haha, you will have to. I'm sure they won't mind, I don't know how much they edit letters from school to school. But seriously. If you're going to apply to more schools, let your letter writers know sooner, than later, to give them ample time and notice.
  23. Have hope! I know, at least for my field, that even when schools interview some applicants, they don't interview everyone that they give offers to because they don't need to interview someone they are sure of. The interviews are usually for people on the cusp!
  24. I wouldn't fret too much, I think you have a plan in mind and I have no doubt that you will execute it to the best of your ability!
  25. Did you already hear back from programs? Even if you aren't admitted, I would reach out to professors and see what you can do to improve the strength of your application for next round!
