Hi Everyone!

I just want to chime in here as this application season has been very overwhelming. I am applying for the fall 2019 for grad school in speech language pathology. The road to getting here has been very long as it took me a while to get in this career path. I am currently finishing up some pre-requisites online, studying for GRE, and working on grad school applications. Is anyone else on the same boat? Also, I am 29 years old and the thought of turning 30 in grad school is sometimes a  bit terrifying. However, I am determined to defy all the odds and give it a shot to get in a program.

I am applying for 13 schools.

Anyone else like this? Thoughts? Concerns? Thanks.

Yes to all of this!!! I just finished up applying (should have my decision this week!) and I had all of these emotions. And I can definitely understand the age thing. It makes me a little sad that I’ll potentially be 33 and BARELY getting my masters.

Thats amazing that you applied to that many schools! Where all did you apply? Good luck, I’m sure you’ll get into one!

Thank you! I am applying to schools in Illinois and Emerson online!  I won’t be turning in my applications until January since I am taking the GRE in November! That’s amazing how you get to find out so soon! What school did you apply to? Best of luck! Hope it works out for you too!

Hi!

I'm not sure if you plan on applying to Elmhurst College as a post bacc, but I am currently an undergrad in their CSD program! Last year we had about 10 post baccs who all applied to Elmhurst College as well as other very competitive schools. None of the post baccs got into Elmhurst's program, but they all got into other great schools such as Rush, Midwestern (both Downer's Grove & Glendale), and NYU. This didn't make sense to many people, but it showed that Elmhurst really prefers students who have a Bachelors in CSD, regardless of their GRE scores, GPA, experiences,  etc.

I just wanted to give you a heads up from what I saw happen last year, and I hope this bit of advice gears you in the right direction! Good luck with your applications! ☺️

I forgot to "quote" you so I'm not sure you'll get notified of my previous responses.  You're not alone in this! :)

I was a post-bacc -Honestly I think it makes you a more well-rounded clinician because you have different perspectives!  Elmhurst College in IL has an agreement to accept half it's graduate students from it's undergraduate CSD majors.  The Elmhurst undergrads apply early and get accepted early (before the deadline for everyone else).  It's a sort of a combined undergraduate/graduate program.

I’m 31 and just started by my grad program this fall. It’s never too late to follow your dreams! Plus, at this age school is more important to me, which ultimately makes me a better student.

I've been doing my post-bacc since last year and it has definitely been a lot of work while working full-time! Thanks for the words of encouragement and I definitely agree, school is definitely more important to me.

What program are you in now if you don't mind me asking? Elmhurst is a program I am looking at because of their multi-lingual emphasis program.

Hi! Thank you! Elmhurst is actually one of the schools I would like to apply to. I know it is extremely competitive and it is a bit disheartening  knowing the slim chances. I would like to go there because of their multi-lingual and multicultural emphasis program! Are you applying this fall as well?
