I think that is true. I found out my scholarship today when i visited in person and I am out of state so it made it around in state cost.

Gotcha. Are you disappointed or is this pretty much what you were expecting? In retrospect, I think my hopes were too high.

Pitt is the cheapest program I applied to and the only program I expected to get any scholarship so any amount I was okay with. My GPA was right at a 3.4 and I am coming straight from undergrad so my only experience is the 500 hours my undergrad field placements have given me. They are giving me $7,000 per year. Although it is the only one I have heard back from so far if I got into all three of the programs I applied to it would be hard to justify going anywhere else in terms of money. There is also a fellowship that I was informed about for integrative health care that gives a $10,000 stipend your second. year. I hope everything works out for you in the end!

Gotcha! I didn’t realize you were Advanced Standing, that obviously makes a huge difference as well. I am also interested in the stipend although I am worried about how competitive it may be. And thank you!

I am not advanced standing. However, one of my majors was Human Services which is very similar to social work and has required field placements so I have gained my hours through that. As for competition, he said that last year 42 people applied and they gave out 28 so not bad. You do need to have a 3.5 from your first year to apply and do your field placement in an integrative healthcare setting.

Oh gotcha, my bad! Thanks for the info.

People who applied to Berkeley MSW: Have you heard anything at all from them?

I applied on 12/3 and have heard nothing except from the email from their application system affirming that my application was submitted and that my payment was accepted. By comparison, UCLA has contacted me several times since I applied on 12/15 about application and fellowship related items.

Should I be worried about no communication from Berkeley?

I applied in late November and haven't heard anything either. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of communication. Only about half the schools I applied to have sent any follow up regarding application status and fellowships.

I applied to:

  • University of Chicago SSA
  • University of Washington Seattle
  • Portland State University

I've been accepted to University of Chicago with a merit-based scholarship that I wish was a bit higher, but I'm hoping that the forthcoming need-based scholarship info will be helpful. Still waiting to hear back from UW and Portland, but SSA is my top choice.

I'm a bit of a non-traditional applicant. I'm 28 and graduated with a B.A. in Humanities in 2013 from a small liberal arts college. My GPA was lackluster (3.14) due to mental health issues. My major GPA was around 3.5.

This Spring I took several psychology courses at Northwestern, and got all A's. My statement of purpose for UofC was strong and sincere. I think I also had very good recommendations, one of which was from my Psychopathology professor at Northwestern. I've had jobs that are tangentially related to social services, but no clinical experience.

I was really concerned about my GPA! Enough that I put off applying to graduate school for years out of fear of not getting in anywhere. So if anyone is reading this in a similar situation... have hope! :) I know that I could have used some hope a bit earlier in the game.

Thank you and congrats to you on your acceptances to NYU and BU! Both amazing schools and you should be really proud.

I just heard back from Berkeley today for the first time since I applied on 12/3 and was accepted. I don't think you should be worried!
