I check this and the slpgradschool reddit every day, probably way more often than I should. Waiting of these results is controlling my life! Thankfully we aren't alone and this will be over soon. Even though I don't know you guys, I'm happy to have this online community :

Applying to:  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign | University of Tennessee, Knoxville | Vanderbilt University | University of Memphis | The University of Texas at Dallas | Howard University

Accepted InterviewWaitlisted, Rejected

Hi!! I actually applied via this early recruitment program called Aspire so I think it worked differently for me. My app was due on December 3rd and I found out on December 17th. Was the normal due date sometime in January?

Ohhhh okay! Yes, the normal due date was January 5th! Congratulations on getting accepted! That must be a huge weight lifted off your chest!

It was for sure!! I'm now a little calmer but anxiously waiting for the responses from the others. Even though I've been accepted somewhere, the worrying hasn't stopped.

I'm so glad to have seen everyone venting!!! A lot of these are the exact feelings i've been having and it was really nice to just have it validated. Whoever said they only breathe after 5pm (when emails couldn't arrive), I lol'd and so relate haha.

keep 'em coming. We'll all be fine :)

I’m literally in the same boat. However, i took a gap year and i know a lot of my classmates last year got interviews in mid/late March and still ended up getting into schools so i know it is definitely possible! I just keep reminding myself it only takes ONE school to make it happen! But i agree the waiting is torture! Best of luck!

I'm pretty nervous as well! I've done one interview which went okay, but I think I could have done better... while I certainly have preferences for which school I'd like to go to, at this point I really just want to know that I got in somewhere. I really hope I didn't go through the whole application process for nothing!

Who knew that WAITING would be harder than APPLYING? As stressful as applying was, at least I had control in that situation. The lack of control in waiting is excruciating, and checking my email every 5 minutes is exhausting!

Wow so appreciate your post!! I've been seeing the ASU results on the page and regretted not applying b/c I was like "Ugh at least i'd KNOW". The things you come up with during times of uncertainty are so crazy.

As everyone keeps saying, it'll all be fine, but right now feels pretty annoying :) Please update if you hear anything, now i'm invested in your search/we have a lot of overlap schools.

Hi friend!! First, so glad that you created this thread. I've found it so helpful as I have been (and will be) a huge ball of anxiety because of waiting, and it's nice to read these posts from others. I want to latch on to your updates as well; I'm also applying to Portland State and UW (both programs, but MedSLP preferred) - these are two of my top choices so I feel very invested in any info surrounding them. Wishing you the best of luck and hope we can chat about these programs once decisions begin coming!!

ScReAmInG internally about MGH decisions. Haven’t heard anything yet! No news is the worst!

Totally let my nerves get the best of me in my first interview to my number one school. I still haven’t heard back even though it was on Friday but feel completely discouraged because I hear they are pretty quick to accept you after the interview. Plus I had to write a writing supplement and I know my wording was all over the place because I was so nervous and couldn’t formulate my thoughts!  I look back now and think about all the things I wish I did different. I have an acceptance to another school under contingency that I finish 3 to 4 pre-req classes over the summer. I’m going to be doing a lot of work this summer, because that looks like the only school I’m accepted too so far. I still am waiting to hear back from 5 more schools hopefully everything goes well. I am so stressed and needed to vent so thank you!!!!

I've basically been able to get a timeline of when most of my schools are going to send out decisions with the exception of UT Dallas.. I've been accepted to one school but they want me to make my decision by April 1st. This anticipation is literally killing me.

Yes, I applied to several schools just hoping for one. Now that I've been accepted I am stressing about finances. Can I really afford this? What will I tell my full-time job? How will I pay my car note?! Sure, I can take out more loans but how much will my loan payment be and will I be able to afford that...Man...to say I am stressed is an understatement.

The good news is speech language pathologists are in high demand and the pay is decent. It is highly unusual for a SLP student not to find work upon graduation.

Scope out our starting salaries for SLPs In an area  you’d like to work. (This particularly easy if you want to work in a public school system, most of which - particularly in large metro areas always need more SLPs) and calculate how much more money you’ll probably be making than you are now. Then look at school expenses (tuition/cost of living in school’s area/moving costs/textbooks) from that perspective. It is very likely that you will see that getting a SLP master’s is worth the investment.

Of course, you can save a whole lot of money by sticking to an in-state,  public university. If you aren’t planning to pursue research & a PhD, then your school’s ranking isn’t really important, but the school’s program completion rates, post-grad employment rate & praxis pass rate are important & those tend to be high for most accredited schools.

Good luck!
