Did anyone else who applied to UPenn BioE get that email about the virtual event for prospective students? It seems a lot of people in the results section of gradcafe got the same email.

Anyone who was invited to the UPenn interview visit, was Wednesday February 24th one of the interview days?

I'm thinking it's a mistake ?, especially after having attended the interview weekend last week, can't see what the need is for this session

Thanks for telling me! Dang, I feel bad for the people who believed it was an interview invite....

Anyone hear back from Harvard BioE yet?

No one around me has said they heard anything from Harvard BE, but their ME/MSE department has sent out offers and only two people have posted their acceptances on Gradcafe. I think there's a fair chance that the person who said they've been waitlisted for BE is telling the truth. Looking at the timeline, Harvard has sent out rejections within a week from sending out offers. So I guess you'll be hearing back soon regardless of whether you've been accepted or not. Good luck!

The Harvard ME/MSE cohort is around 10, by the way. Their BE cohort is likely to be small too.

If you have not heard from a program, is it wise to email the department to ask what's up? I'm waiting on Columbia ChemE, JHU ChemBE and Gatech-EmoryBME BME ?

For Columbia ChemE and JHU ChemBE, I was accepted for both back in January, but have seen some people get acceptance notifications in February so far so it’s not over! For GT, the interview/visit weekend (depends on home dept whether it’s a visit or interview) is next week.

Got an email from a current student at Virginia Tech asking if I have any questions about the school/program, and saying "if you have any questions about accepting your admittance" to email the graduate director. But I haven't been accepted yet. Mistake or spoiler?

Just wanted to hear some words from the reject side of things...I applied for BME schools and I've been rejected by 5 schools (including my own), and had a PI interview that was then rejected (so basically a 6th reject), and the 2 schools I'm waiting on are Georgia Tech and CMU but it seems late now to receive an interview request. Any general advice for a sadboi reject? What should I do next year? How do people come back strong from complete rejection during the next cycle? I don't have anything lined up for next year yet but my ultimate goal is a PhD

Did you interview with a professor or got an invite for the grad week? If yes, then it could be a spoiler.

I attended Wake Forest grad recruitment weekend (still going on). In one of the presentations (by the graduate admissions director) it was mentioned that VT might even send informal admits before grad week (I know its confusing).
Nonetheless, you should contact Graduate Admissions Coordinator stating the confusion, that will clear out everything. All the Best!

Guys is it just me or do rotation schools generally send out offers BEFORE their recruitment events and direct admission schools generally send out offers AFTER their recruitment events?

If so, what are some rotation schools that did this and what are some schools that sent out offers for direct entry to a specific PI?

The ones I know that sent out PhD offers before interviews are BU and Yale, but I don't know of any other ones.

If I were you I would apply to  post-bacc program at schools that I want to go for PhD and build my CV  to be more competitive for next year round.

Someone mentioned you could do a post-bacc and that's a worthwhile situation. I'd also start applying for jobs, especially engineering/technician/research associate/quality control roles, ideally in biotech companies, as any full-time work experience greatly strengthens an app. You can even poke around in your department/home institution labs to see if anyone would be willing to hire you as a lab technician for full-time. The next time you apply, I'd also apply to more schools, including more lower-ranked programs. BME looked extremely competitive this year so and it's hard to say you didn't get in solely because you didn't have the credentials, so applying to more programs will help with this.

Did anyone attend the UCSF/UC Berkeley BioE interview weekend last week? How was it? Also, does anyone know the post-interview acceptance rate for that program?

I attended last week and I thought it went really well! It was definitely one of the more organized and informative events I've been to and the department and students seem really friendly/inclusive/supportive + the faculty interviews were all fairly laid back. I've heard the post-interview acceptance rate is >90%, but of course who knows if anything has changed.
