Hi! From the U.S., a lot of places don't necessarily do interviews/don't interview everyone they're accepting. I'm pretty sure Princeton doesn't do interviews - I haven't heard back from them, either, but from what I noticed on the result boards is that in the past, they've sent out decisions the day after Presidents Day (which is today, February 15th), so we might hear tomorrow!

I know University of Michigan and NYU usually do interviews (I didn't swing getting an interview at either), but I'm unsure about the others. Which U.S. schools besides Princeton, if any, did you apply to? That might help figuring out the interview info from each university.

I hope you get some good news soon!

Thanks so much for your reply! It really helps. Actually I have just applied for Princeton and Oxford this year-really so stupid of me! I have never expected that it would be so much competitive this year. I am also trying to be optimistic but just can't help thinking that how far another rejection from Princeton can be while the first one form Oxford has arrived. Should there be anything good happen to me, make an offer happen!

Wish all good luck with you as well-we all need it!

You're welcome! I applied to a lot of places myself, but still think I should have done more (I didn't do any U.K., Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand PhD applications, though if I manage to be able to do it next time and can get funding to do my PhD in one of those places, I think that's going to be my game plan for the next round if I don't manage entry anywhere this time). Crossing my fingers for everyone who's still waiting! ?

Just got an informal email from a potential advisor at NYU saying that I got in! Official response should arrive in the coming week. Ahhhh, I'm so excited!

A special thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum, you made the experience of applying and waiting for responses much more bearable! Hope I get to meet some of you in academia down the line :)

Congrats to everyone hearing back! For those who are still waiting who else has been bamboozled into answering those "This is an urgent message for the vehicle owner..." scam calls because who knows maybe that unknown number is my dream school offering me everything I could ever want

I've been getting so many wonky calls myself! I had one from Toronto the other day, and I was like, you know what, professors could have kept their original numbers, I still have my out-of-state one, you never know...and it was definitely a spam call. It's definitely the season to be bamboozled into those calls!!

Hello, everyone! I have a funding related question and I wasn't sure where else to ask it. I'm hoping all of you with more experience in how these things work could give me your opinion. ?

I'm waiting to hear back about funding from the one program I have been accepted to so far. I don't know how likely I am to get funding through the department, so I'm looking at other assistantships that are offered by the school at large. I have found a couple that might work, but I noticed that they start in June? My acceptance is for the Fall 2021 semester. Does anyone know if that would be a problem? I tried contacting the people in charge of the hiring for these assistantships, but they haven't responded and the application deadline is coming up.

Blind leading the blind here, since this stuff is confusing to me too. But one program to which I was accepted referred me to apply to several university fellowship positions. Of those, one job entailed working in the university museum and the term went from early August (before the fall semester started), to June, with July off. So it sounds reasonable. Just be careful about housing costs when you're not in classes.

Just wanted to update in case anyone applied to Rutgers and were wondering when they'd hear back; I got the email today that they were acknowledging my application to Rutgers. The rest of the email read:

"Our PhD application review timeline is relatively late compared to many other schools. Since our final deadline for submission of PhD applications is Feb. 15, we don't expect to be able to make decisions until around the first week of March, perhaps sooner. In any case, I'll be sure to provide updates on the process toward the end of February.

Until then, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns."

I feel sorry for Rutgers applicants. Waiting is torture.  I'm still waiting on admissions decisions for 2 programs and on funding details for 2 others that admitted me. Then there's the school that won't reveal the funding until I accept. Sigh.

Thanks for the input! I guess I'll go ahead and give it a shot. Good point about housing. Fortunately my best friend lives in the same city as this school, so I can always stay there.

To be fair, that's quite a fast turnaround for them to do after having a February 15th deadline! I have had some of my applications in since September (all of mine essentially, except for a couple, had a December 15th deadline, and still won't get back around the same time).

I'm really sorry that one school won't tell you about the funding until you accept! Honestly that feels really manipulative and that would make me so anxious, I hope you're doing okay with it.

Actually thanks for letting us know! I applied to Rutgers for the Masters' program, so it sounds like if they only just started acknowledging PhD applications then I'd think since I haven't heard about the MA it means I'll be waiting even longer. One less application to bite my nails over in the immediacy.

Has anyone heard from Michigan, UNC, or Yale? (on the lit side of things)

Yale is currently doing interviews, last year the results came back a few weeks after the interviews. (Apologies if someone has already updated on this!)

Thanks for sharing! I'm still waiting to hear back from them, as well.

Thank you for sharing about this! Nobody posted on the results board about interviews at Yale though, it surprises me!

Has anybody heard back from Cornell's Archaeology MA program?

Hi, I was accepted yesterday! I got an email with the offer letter attached ($2,500 fellowship). On the results page for "cornell archaeology" it looks like people have reported 4 rejections and and 1 acceptance with half funding so far.

Oh wow, congratulations! I have not heard back yet, I wonder if I should reach out and ask?

Thanks! Maybe they're taking a few days to send out all the notifications? But it probably wouldn't hurt to ask
