Thank you sooo much!!

Of course.

I have a very diverse background in social service mental health and addictions.

Experience:

2 years front line social service working with people ages 15-29 with complex socio-economic barriers. 1 of these years was in program leadership (I was the coordinator of the program).

2 years in integrated mental health and substance use in mental health community organizations and hospital environments working with adults with mental health and addictions challenges.

2 years facilitating group counselling sessions for new immigrants and refugees

4 Years volunteering at a distress line.

References:

1 professors - who was an advocate and a very strong reference. I would say he was a champion for my success and likely made a huge difference in my application.

1 manager - my manager at the hospital I work at - who is also a registered therapist.

Academics -

BA Psych - York - B+ average (i worked throughout university full time - keeping extremely high marks was challenging)

Addictions and Mental Health grad certificate - Durham College 96% average

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can answer anything else or help you with anything else.

Wow, well done and congratulations on your offer! What an impressive resume. May I ask, were you able to the social service and hospital jobs with your Psych BA alone? Or was your certificate quite key to working with these populations? Getting into the field feels a bit of a catch 22 sometimes, as so many places seem to require you to have masters level education in order to get a foot in the door!

FYI: counselling is very different than therapy. The MeD program allows you to provide therapy.

You do not need a counselling degree to provide counselling. Recruiters usually look for experience . I’ve actuallly gotten a few interviews for counselling positions and I have a BA in psych. Correct me if i am wrong @Pizza Ovenz

Hi everyone! Here are my stats:

academics:

I am graduating this May with a Bachelor's in Psychology and minor in Behavioural Science and Sociology at McGill, I have a CGPA of 3.8/4.0 a PSYC GPA of 3.95/4.0 and a final year GPA of 4.0/4.0. I am also completing an honours-equivalent thesis.

For work experience:

  • I interned as a Street Outreach Worker at a crisis intervention and active listening centre for 6 months
  • ABA therapist for 6 months
  • workshop facilitator for youth mental health for 6 months
  • mental health case manager for 1 year

For volunteer experience:

  • Volunteered at 2 crisis intervention and active listening centres for about 2 years
  • Psychology undergrad association coordinator  for 1 year
  • Mental Health Commissioner for my faculty for 6 months
  • Research Assistant for 4 different psychology/counselling labs for about 3 years

For my references: I had my research supervisor for my thesis and my supervisor from my internship

I had my response to the application question reviewed by 7+ grad students and 2 school career advisors (I think this helped strengthen it!)

Let me know if there are any more questions ?

I wouldn't worry too much about ACORN since they seem to be sending out emails and updating portals as well

so I called the OISE office but was on hold for 40 minutes (crazy, I know). I tried to call Todd after which was unsuccessful, and then I tried to call the APHD dept which also failed lol. Not sure what to do now but I also sent an email to todd + OISE. Automatic reply said to give them 3 business days to respond - which I do not have the patience for. If anyone has any suggestions please share!

Update: I just got off the phone with OISE, they said they are sending admissions on a rolling basis and they are sending out accpetances every few days. He said most likely decisions have been made but most likely are not sent out yet. (I’m not sure why? I guess techn stuff).  He also told me that we should hear by end of next week, but  maximum end of the month.

also, did they make it sound like more acceptances were likely to come? mine told me that they were going down a list and likely havent gotten to our names yet but I couldn't gauge whether more acceptances are likely to come or if it might just be rejections now.

Update: I just checked my SGS and saw I was rejected as this was the only program I applied to. I just wish there was a way to get feedback on my application from them.. Feeling totally crushed…

good luck to everyone!
