Albanski
FYI::: I believe that this year we will receive Email notification regarding Finalist Status on January 28th than the 30th. The 30th is a Sunday this year and I doubt that they will be open. If you look at last year's post, the majority recieved their notifications on Friday and the rest throughout the weekend. Make sure you guys have a good relationship with your Campus Fulbright Advisor, maybe they can give you the good/bad news early, since they know 1 day before. However, January 30th is only the beginning. The most stress comes between late March and April where some countries are late in their response. GET READY FOR THE ROLLERCOASTER! Gradoom
Yes, please tell me too? I would love to have more time to complete my research - possibly in multiple cities. They had some additional funding left over from my year and I reapplied (LOI, LOR and all that again) for it and got additional funding. This part was only for Masters students. I do not think you can extend it more or get it for several cities or something like this. Also I hope you noticed that I am a grantee in the US. This is true considering that in the 30th is even worse...Some countries are late in sending in their selections..but even worse is being an alternate, the equivalent of Limbo
luckieduckie10
My research is on cardiovascular disease in Varanasi. How about you? My research is working with an NGO that is bringing healthcare to rural areas of Gujarat. I hope we both get it! It sounds like both of us are proposing research in the medical field. Mynah
dudes i am way nervous!!!!!!!! I am feeling the nerves too, but I have a fallback position. I won a less prestigious fellowship which will still allow me to do my research in India if I don't get the Fulbright - BUT I am holding out for the Fulbright!!! Well done on the other fellowship!! Good luck w/ Fulbright, too! I feel like I have basically no hope of getting a UK Fulbright, but I am hoping for it anyway... Praying to the Fulbright gods! rachaelski
I hate that the process takes so long. I have been thinking lately that I almost don't want a fulbright. Things are settling nicely here for me. Now, ask me again how I feel at the end of January. It's just difficult for me because I am married, and if I get the FB my husband will not come with me. I know if I get it, it is a wonderful and rare opportunity, and I will need to take it to further my own career. Grrrrr. Anyone else feeling this way? I am also married, but my husband is coming with me if we get the FB. It must be a really tough choice to make for you - is there possibly a way your husband would go with you? Maybe something he could do during the time you are there? Photography? Documentary? Research? Regarding my other alternative fellowship - it's an internal one and financially not as adequate as the FB - so we will just have to fasten our belts and enjoy the ride anyway. I know if I get it, it is a wonderful and rare opportunity, and I will need to take it to further my own career. Grrrrr. Anyone else feeling this way? I had these feelings back in October as I was applying for other fellowships ... it's kind of like the feeling during undergraduate years when you study abroad, but you don't want to leave b/c you've started building this foundation for yourself. I still have this kind of feeling mainly because I think I was nudged towards applying for the FB b/c I was a "good candidate". However, I've applied for the NSF GRF, EPA STAR, NDSEG, and DAAD Grant Fellowships as well for funding. So I don't know if it's good that I've applied to so many, or bad. My advisor keeps asking what will I do if I get them all, and I have no idea - all I know is that it will kind of be a big mess b/c they all different rules and such ... money is great ... but not if I have to choose! It's so difficult. But Rachael, I agree. Things are starting to become settled here and if I get one of the other fellowships, why should I go to Germany? BUT I think in the long run, the FB is something worthwhile. I think my family wouldn't want me to go, but I will do it anyways, even it's against my gut feelings, but also in my gut, I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and will basically set us apart from the rest went applying for jobs. My final thought: What's one year out of 3-5 years of your dissertation, when it will only enhance it? Hmm ... I sound like my German professor. borneoguy
First post here - I applied for a full research grant for Indonesia. Anxiously awaiting the first round notification - and pursuing other funding opportunities, though not with the same zeal that I pursued Fulbright! In dire need of another $10G or so.... Mynah
That was the plan originally, but we went to Hanoi for a conference, and he HATED it, Any chance that he might change his mind? Being in a city for a conference is very different from spending nine months there. I have been reading a lot about India and most people say that for the first few weeks they hated it then it became an exciting adventure. PLUS he gets to be with you. He's in the process of transitioning from adjunct to a tenure-track position, so it might be better for us in the long run to stay. He can secure the job, and he can also take care of our pets. Plus, with an academic schedule, he can come for long visits. I'm okay with it. It makes more sense for us in the long-run. Plus, the pets will be with their family. We aren't suction-cupped couple-y either, so we'd both be fine with it. Not that it won't be hard, but it will benefit us both in the long run. Talking about it with you guys, plus with my advisor has my interests piqued. Maybe I just forgot about the application for a while. Imagine that!! Remember when we thought the Oct-Jan wait was FOREVER? Bahahahaha
