Is anyone else getting the message "We are currently processing your application" after submitting? Is that normal, because I got an email from ORPAS stating I have successfully submitted my application along with the purchase receipt... I'm just unsure of whether there needs to be a different message. I got two emails. One purchase receipt. The other one says "You have successfully submitted your application. Your OUAC/ORPAS reference number...." and then a list of things I can do once they go through with my payment completely. pls_SLP 1

Except when you log into your ORPAS account, are you also receiving the "We are currently processing your application" message despite receiving those 2 emails?

Call your reference if you can, or even their superior and see if they know how to get in touch with them. You can email SAM but I'm not sure how helpful they'll be because the reference deadline is tonight. Also, as far as I know it's a personal/professional reference - you could call up a friend to do it in a pinch. Western says "A clinical reference will not be required. In its place, applicants must submit a professional or personal reference (using a third academic reference form) from someone who knows the applicant well from a non-academic setting (e.g. work supervisor, coach, clergy member, etc)." A friend does know you well from a non-academic setting. Not sure if that would be bending the rules, but it seems like it would be acceptable. 5 hours ago, 2022slp said: Hi! Don't worry. I asked the same question to Janet and she said they accept late references. As long as you get it in ASAP, you should be fine! Thank you for your helpful words! I was fortunately able to get another supervisor last minute to write me the letter. Congratulations to everyone who submitted their applications to Ontario schools! SLPEventually 1

_waffle123 Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone is in the same situation as me. I'm pretty worried that SAM/ ORPAS will calculate my sGPA incorrectly since I took some summerschool courses so extracting the 20 most recent credits is a bit confusing for my situation. I'd love to hear insight or if anyone is in the same situation!

My credits are as follows: 5 credits. - summer 2021 (2 full year (1 credit each) and 1 half year (0.5 credit each)) 8 credits - fall / winter 2020 (1 full year and 6 half year) 7 credits - fall / winter 2018 (9 half year and 2 full year). Will they use just these or somehow for some reason go into my 2017 credits and use the average of those?

I'd love to hear insight or if anyone is in the same situation! I don't think it'll be an issue. Here is something I posted last year: From my understanding they will count every course individually up to your oldest half credit, and for that half credit they will group and average grades of an entire year if you took more than 1 course (probably because how can they choose which course to pick if you took multiple courses at the same time?). So let's say you took 19 half credits in the last two years, they will need to go back one more semester. If in that semester you took more than 1 course, they will average the gpa of the entire year (they combine fall and winter) I may be wrong because it can get confusing, but this is what happened in my situation. I took 3 half credit courses in 3 different semesters in 2020. They were not grouped, but counted individually. However, when they summed up all the courses I took after graduating to those taken in my undergrad to reach 20 half credits, they still had to take half a credit from my 3rd undergrad year, where I had an awful average. So for my oldest half credit they used the average of that year It's a bit of a mess but I hope it helps Edited January 9, 2022 by slp2020ab

I assumed the process would be somewhat like this, so in the end did ORPAS calculate it accurately? Or did you encounter any issues?

SLPwonder Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) Guys kind of a dumb question but is it "a SLP" or "an SLP" ? ? Edited January 11, 2022 by SLPwonder

Since SLP is abbreviated into letters, and since the letter "s" is pronounced as "Ess" (or a short e followed by an /s/ sound), then it should be preceeded with the article "an". This ensures two vowel sounds aren't side by side. Hopefully this makes sense? Saying "a SLP" sounds incorrect to me. ?♀️ 2nd year Dal Student and SLPwonder 2
Loki_Odinson Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Hi guys! I had a question in regards to the UofA and UBC applications (sorry if this has been asked before). So I didn't realize that you needed to had to upload transcripts yourself and I have ordered them, but they still have not arrived (which is setting me back on my initial application plans) I was wondering if I could upload unofficial transcripts right now and pay for the application so my references can get their emails and then be able to change it to the official ones once I receive them?!?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yasmine99 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Hello! I am currently completing my BSc in Kinesiology at UVIC, and I'm wanting to complete my masters at Dalhousie. Is there anyone out there who is currently studying or has studied at Dal and has advice on getting into the program (GPA needed, experience, honours program etc). I've heard its very competitive, and I want to know what I need to do to secure myself a spot. I have had a poke around on their site, and they did say that you needed a GPA around a 3.7/4.3 to be a competitive applicant.... would people say that if I got between a 4-4.3 would I be okay? I currently work as a lifeguard and swim instructor and goal is to volunteer at a speech clinic before applying. I've been asking around to find some extra info on good experience or courses to take, and I'm not finding any of my profs or admissions councilors very helpful If anyone has any experience or extra knowledge they would be able to share, that would be amazing!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I can only speak to the U of A application, but I think as long as you have some sort of transcript uploaded and pay you can proceed. The key is that you must choose "in progress" for those schools that you wish to change at a later date (and not "completed"). To my knowledge, if you choose completed, it won't allow you to upload any changes. Perhaps double check with Vicki? SLP--2021 and Loki_Odinson 2
SLP--2021 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Eeek! I am also wondering about the official transcript requirement. My orders are in but I am not confident that they will be here for Friday. Has anyone spoken to UofA admissions about uploading an unofficial for now and updating it with the official once received? Thanks!

From what I can remember in the past it was possible to get into Western with a 3.6 but I think it may be harder now as they've become so inundated with applications. I also believe it's possible to get into University of Alberta too from what I've seen on older threads! But others can attest to this. I don't want to be a downer or discourage anyone at all, but as of last cycle I did not know anyone who got into UofT with a GPA under 3.8 (this doesn't mean it isn't possible, simply just an anecdotal remark on my behalf). Both friends of mine who had a 3.7 were waitlisted at UofT and did not hear back. With a 3.6, I think it may be more difficult to get into UofT, McMaster, Dalhousie, and McGill. It would be worth trying with UofA and Western. Also, if it's any encouragement, the way ORPAS calculates and U of A calculates GPA seems to be different. In the former my GPA was under 3.6, in the latter, higher. SpeechieAlly 1
