I applied to these schools, anyone got a guess as to which one I’ll hear back from first? Iowa, Brown, Michigan, UT Austin, Rutgers Newark, and UT Knoxville This is assuming all acceptances, I'd guess an interview request notificiation first from Rutgers Newark. For UT Austin, I wasn't sure if you meant their Michener program or New Writer's Project, but Michener would be next up on your list for an acceptance. Iowa and Michigan and Rutgers Newark acceptances would be later in February. Looks like Brown and UTK are the last notifs with possibly hearing back in early March. Edited February 2 by HalBear
Walter Hartwell White Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) Hoping for a Pittsburgh interview request this week (they seem to do poetry last and they did fiction and cnf already.) I think Newark also did interviews 2/7 so maybe them next? edit: I meant to quote but I think I did it wrong. Edited February 3 by Walter Hartwell White Edit

Filter for school + decision + genre and then sort by date :). gm3 1
traceykibres Posted February 3 Posted February 3 What are y’all doing while waiting for decisions? I’ve been throwing myself into my teaching job in an effort to distract myself (I mean also cause I like my job lol). My kids have been really good lately . It’ll be bittersweet to leave this job if I get in anywhere (which is nice, because it means when I don’t get in anywhere I get to keep doing something I love). This is the first job I’ve had that I don’t dread going to and feel good at. Work + my blog are keeping me busy. Still nervous, though😬. XXY, lisichka and gm3 3

Just finished up editing three books of short story collections, of which two of them are going to competition. Working on my long novel editing atm... Lots of writing. And reading. I read like 31 books last month which is a lot for me. I hardly think about what's going on with the PhD/MFA stuff. gm3 1

This is the first job I’ve had that I don’t dread going to and feel good at. Work + my blog are keeping me busy. Still nervous, though😬. Mostly I'm just trying to make myself busy because I don't currently have a job that takes up a lot of time. So I'm trying to stay busy and yet not spend all of my money. Going on walks, listening to audiobooks and reading books in general (14 last months, which was a lot for me). Trying new recipes when I cook. Watching entirely too many episodes of The Secret Life of an American Teenager (my drama television slop). The only time that I feel like I really forget about the looming decisions, though, is when I'm with my friends. I just don't even think about it when I have someone to talk to or do something with. So I've been trying to see them more without being overbearing, especially since most of them work. Also, having something to look forward to has helped. The uncertainty of not knowing when I'll hear back from the schools and not knowing their answers sours the part of me that looks forward to it a little bit. So I make a plan or a doctor's appointment that I've been needing to do or just some activity at least once a week that gets me out of the house and that I know I'll enjoy. Then each week it gives me something to look forward to that I know well will turn out good, and it gives me somewhere else to channel that nervous energy that is a little more positive. Helps the time go by. SocialKonstruct and gm3 1 1

My job isn't interesting enough to be a great distraction so I've had to fill a lot of dead time. I've been listening to more music as well as writing fanfiction. I have been talking to someone on a dating app, but I think I am scaring her off because my replies have become increasingly long-winded, lol. I guess I am trying to distract myself by focusing on her.

If anyone is in the Facebook workshop group on Messenger, an extension of MFA Draft '26 we are doing a writing sprint tonight 5pm EST to 8pm EST. We are holding more sprints this month but so far that is the first one scheduled.

I saw that they were making the workshop group recently but it seemed like the person who posted about it was looking for a specific style (dark/gothic/experimental if I remember correctly). I could have this wrong but that’s why I didn’t join bc my stuff isn’t like that and it’s also CNF. Is the group for all types?

Yeah, I think you might be referring to the Lit Mag the person is doing. The workshop/writing sprint is open it's just a peer group womanonline 1
XXY Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Y'all are so productive 👏 You're inspiring me to do more meaningful things, not just while away my free hours.

My kids were hilarious today.

I thought Litowitz was coming out on Monday (because last year it was 2/2) and kept checking the spreadsheet on my 17hr flight. Still no words from them though. I can't believe I'm gonna have to live like this until the end of March when Brown's decisions come out...Also are we getting Cornell this week?

guntherpingu Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Waitlisted at UTK (PhD fiction)! Got the email this morning, very excited! I was fully expecting to be rejected from every school I applied to so this was a nice confidence boost (even if I don't get in). Hope everything is going well for y'all!
