I'll start, since I got my first official rejection letter. I'm sure more will come, but I think they will be later. School: UCLA Area: Social Rationalization: Well, the professors that I REALLY wanted to work with weren't accepting students, so I don't mind that I didn't get in, since the people I did apply to weren't my first choices. The second in July saying that there had been a "security breech" of their admissions database and my personal data may have been compromised.I applied to Harvard and all I got was a lousy year of free credit monitoring services. And I will probably find out I have a better fit school elsewhere on my list. (Take that, Yale!). I'm assuming I got rejected, anyway, due to a lack of interview invite. Tolman's Rat Posted January 14, 2013 Share Posted January 14, 2013 School: UCSD Area: Social (second choice cognitive) Rationalization: Was the worst intellectual fit, and the only real reason I applied there was because I love the CogSci program there and it was free to submit an application to another department (as an international student who spent over $300 on applications to schools in the US, I couldn't pass up the opportunity for one extra lottery ticket). It's the only social psych program to which I applied, I'm more interested in cognition/development but the research topics currently being studied in those areas at UCSD Psych are not of substantial interest to me. He said, that "[g]iven [his] age, [he] cannot guarantee that [he] will be around for 6 more years to mentor [me] through the PhD." At least his email rejecting me was really nice. I should have sounded more enthusiastic about my research interests and had some ideas for further research available for when she asked for that. Also needed to brush up on relevant theories that she asked me about and have more specifically read her research, as I think I misconstrued some details of one study we discussed. School: Nebraska Area: Clinical Rationalization: This one is tough to get into for people interested in forensic psych. Again, top choice Word: Waaahhhhh I applied to 17 schools and I haven't heard from most. I mostly applied to Developmental Psychology Ph.D. programs. Here I applied to work with a developmental psychologist in Human Development and Social Policy. Word: Meh.
