obviousbicycle Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Received my acceptance to OSU Geography-Atmospheric Science and Climate! Very ecstatic. I had counted myself out of this one. I just checked the website, so still waiting on details. Ohio State? Oregon State? Congratulations!
JM15 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Ohio State? Oregon State? Congratulations! Thank you, obviousbicycle! And OSU as in Ohio State.

ProfMoriarty Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Congrats to the UNC-CH acceptance!! I guess this means we should start hearing back soon ?
Geography1984 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Wow, congratulations to all who've been accepted by a program! There are some great geography schools represented here. I see over on the acceptance forum that an international student was turned down by IU-Bloomigton a few days ago, but I haven't heard anything from them. Has anybody else heard one way or the other from IU?
TruffleTime Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Has anyone heard anything from Penn State? I know two people posted PhD rejections to the forum on Feb. 7th, but it's been dead air since then...

ProfMoriarty Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 They (Penn State) emailed my rejection about an hour ago.
obviousbicycle Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Waitlisted by Penn State. And I was told that there are a few people ahead of me in the list.
JewishSombrero Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Just got waitlisted by Penn State as well, presumably the same e-mail as obviousbicycle.
obviousbicycle Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) I haven't heard back from my potential advisor at UW in quite a while. Two weeks ago he told me not to make any decisions until he gets back to me with funding availability information (he is waiting for his grant to be approved I think) but I haven't heard anything from him since. Should I send him an email and ask about it? Edited March 4, 2014 by obviousbicycle
Geography1984 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 obviousbicycle, I'd send your contact a note along the lines of "Hi Dr Whoever, I'm really excited about the prospect of studying UW. I just wanted to touch base with you on the status of the funding decision you mentioned to me a few weeks ago."
pohks Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Sorry to hear that, paolaplease. Obviousbicycle, congrats on the waitlist! OSU fellowship offers were sent out yesterday, and I didn't receive one. I was wondering if I should contact the graduate coordinator/my POI and ask when TA/RA decisions will be made, or if it would be better to wait for a couple of days. The graduate school requieres me to provide evidence of sufficient funds by March 15. My POI wrote to me 2 weeks ago, saying that they were still awaiting several funding decisions (supposedly grants).

I didn't get guaranteed funding from UW but exactly like your case, my POI wrote to me 2 weeks ago telling me that they were still waiting for some alternative funding decisions, which mostly come from grants (and perhaps TA/RA positions from departments other than geography, I guess). The difference is that I don't think the grad school has set a deadline for me to provide a financial statement. Are you going to email your POI and ask? I don't want to sound too pushy, you know (although I have to admit I am kind of desperate to know the decision lol) Edited March 4, 2014 by obviousbicycle
kev0476 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Just received an unofficial acceptance from PSU. They will not update my status to program offer as they want to give funding to all students for admission. Therefore I am admitted but on a wait list for funding.

That's why I'm debating whether I should give them a couple of days (programs are responsible for notifying unsuccessful nominees, after all), although I really, really want to know. Maybe emailing the graduate program coordinator instead would be a possibility.

I think my admission status is similar to yours. PSU wrote to me "We always like to bring in a class that is fully funded. For now, you are on a waiting list for a funded offer." I know - me neither. That's why I'm debating whether I should give them a couple of days (programs are responsible for notifying unsuccessful nominees, after all), although I really, really want to know. Maybe emailing the graduate program coordinator instead would be a possibility. I know right? Hm, I think I'd wait for a few more days. If I don't hear back from my POI by Friday, I'll send him an e-mail. I'm not sure if graduate program coordinator knows much about grant approvals though...?

That's a good point, although the professors are likely to keep him informed, aren't they? I was thinking about asking if he has an idea of the general timeframe of the TA/RA decisions. It's probably a good idea to wait for a few days, though.
Chapuller Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Congrads to UNC-CH ! but at the same time sorry for me and the others who have been still waiting for any response... I don't know why they are so late There are two acceptance entry for UNC phd.. my hope is like ended ((( should I sent a mail for asking the results? or should I still some hope for UNC (
LeoBixby Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Anybody hear anything from University of Washington yet? Geez they are taking a long time. Today is one week from when I was told they would have their decisions made after one more week, "we hope". hahaha
Extexan562 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 University of Washington came in today! I am so happy I didn't get in!! Good luck to everyone!!!
LeoBixby Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I just heard via email that I got into UW! Funding information coming in the mail. I'm over the moon, and now I have a very difficult decision to make.

onada Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) So stressed about this whole process! I closed my eyes after the last application was submitted in January, and wasn't expecting to hear anything until March, though February seems to have been the month of news... Hope to have idea of viable choices by the end of this week! Edited March 5, 2014 by onada
