krcgator Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Thoughts about emailing the programs to check on the status of your application? I have seen on the results page a few people have done this. Wondering if anyone here has? I would love to, but don't want to tick them off if they haven't made a decision on me yet! I know they are so busy and want to finalize their cohorts just as we want to know where we will be!

The school sent short email.
kbell Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Just got a very short and sort of unenthusiastic acceptance email from Old Dominion University.... but oh well, I'll take it! autismadvocate 1
erdestromp Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I got waitlisted at the University of Oregon! I'm honestly excited because it's my first verdict, and it wasn't a rejection. That's got to be good news, right? SweetPea21 and erdestromp 2

futureslpCP3fan Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Hi y'all, I wrote this within a separate post, but I feel like this will get more traffic; So, I know there are some applicants who applied to NY SLP programs, and I hope to hear from NYMC applicants who've had interviews already. My interview is via Skype on the 14th and I was told that I would have to read an article and write a response to which I email. Then, I am to have a one on one interview with a professor that is scenario based. I would like to know if anyone has gone through this type of interview at NYMC, and what sorts of things I could expect to be asked during my interview?
amspeechie Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Hi amspeechie! I'm also applying to Syracuse and I was wondering the same thing about those posts. I'm somewhat concerned because, up until this point, I've only heard great things about the program. What impressions did you get from your tour? I absolutely loved my tour and the clinic was amazing, so I was definitely a little worried when I saw those comments. But it is true what lisa19 and Sophia Petrillo said. It really could be an applicant trying to up their chances. And even if it is an actual student, it is their own opinion and I got a really great feeling about the program so I am right there with you on trusting your gut! Good luck!!
smccau3 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I was accepted to Rush today (!) and will be attending their preview day March 28. The flier says parents are welcome, but do you think it would be weird to bring my mom? I think she really wants to come and it would be nice not to be alone in Chicago. It just doesn't seem like a mature thing to do. Any advice is appreciated!

It just doesn't seem like a mature thing to do. Any advice is appreciated! First, congratulations! You must be feeling so excited right now! Second, I think it would be a good experience if you went alone. While the comfort in knowing someone is always nice, you will be more open to talking to others from your cohort and you will be more likely to give yourself your own personal feedback (without relying on an outside opinion).

It just doesn't seem like a mature thing to do. Any advice is appreciated! I'm considering bringing my parents to an admitted students event as well. The main reason why I would want them there is because they are financially supporting me and while where I go is my decision, I want them to be involved in my decision process and informed about the programs. Also, if I am moving 5 hours away from them, I want them to at least have seen where I'll be for the next two years!

It just doesn't seem like a mature thing to do. Any advice is appreciated! My parents are coming with me to Indiana for an open house at IU. Though they won't actually be coming to the open house, we will probably walk the campus and check out the city together. I don't think there is anything wrong with bringing your parents though. I was talking about this with some classmates, and my professor overheard us and said, "We are all parents, we understand." If the flier suggests it, I don't see why not. For me, I would feel more open to approaching and asking questions on my own.

Sorry to go off on a tangent but I see you applied to Monmouth; any response other than confirmation email?
lisa19 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Sorry to go off on a tangent but I see you applied to Monmouth; any response other than confirmation email? Nope! But at the open house they said they'd be notifying 3/15-3/30

SweetPea21 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Checked my portal for UT-Austin and saw that I was rejected So sad since that means my family will definitely have to relocate (considering I get in elsewhere). Feeling a bit bummed right now, but I know the Lord will help me find joy in the journey and that there is a plan in place Edited March 7, 2014 by SweetPea21

Feeling a bummed right now, but I know the Lord will help me find joy in the journey and that there is a plan in place Sorry to hear that SweetPea! My application is not updated yet!! I am d y i n g! My heart stated pounding and my hands started shaking when I saw notices, but none for me yet. Freaking out! And it looks like the ones who have been accepted so far are their own undergrads, so maybe I have no hope. But you are right. Whatever is supposed to happen will happen.
SweetPea21 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Sorry to hear it, Danielle! Best of luck with your other schools! @Caterpillar, thanks. It will all work out though. As long as I get one acceptance under my belt I will be SO grateful @Candynut, I have my fingers crossed for you! Edited March 7, 2014 by SweetPea21
twinguy7 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Sorry to hear about that SweetPea21... But yes, The Lord has a plan for us all It just makes us streeeetch and grow more when it's not what we were hoping for or expected. you got 7 more to hear back from! This application process is a daily roller coaster! I guess we just should accept that and sit back and enjoy the ride(or journey as you put it) Edited March 7, 2014 by twinguy7 arthritiskid, pitt123 and SweetPea21 3
branderz3 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I am expecting to hear back from the University of Central Missouri this week, but nothing yet!! This wait is so hard!! Fingers crossed!!! Oh please, oh please, oh please let me in!! Good luck to everyone!

So I don't think it would be too weird.
