katiegud Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I've heard back from all but one university now (and I have an interview at that one), but I know very little about funding! At two universities I know I would be completely unfunded, so that leaves three that I am still unsure about. I might not know until May (!) if I can get my PhD. That said, for lunch I had a giant peanut butter/M&M cookie and diet Dr Pepper. Anybody else going to gain 100 lbs by the time this is over?
Nautiloid Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'm a stress non-eater, so I generally forgo food when stressed. However, I don't even want to check how much weight I've lost during this process. I know I'm already looking a little bony. Hopefully I'll be able to gain some of it back once I've accepted an offer. Stress eaters, teach me your ways?
AwesomeBird Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I haven't had candy in a year... yesterday I went out and bought: a box of rasberry licorice, 1 container of assorted jelly beans, and.... gummy bears. One year.... I share your pain. ereissoup 1
HockeyNerd Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I wish I stopped eating when I get stressed. I have just avoided the scales during this whole process. I don't really do candies, I have a big downfall for carbs. Boxes and boxes of crackers. drph_2014 1
EngineerGrad Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Me! I am eating so much since december... It's tragic. I also promised myself that if I get into Berkeley, I won't eat chocolate for a year (don't judge me). So right now I am eating as much chocolate as I can xD
Nautiloid Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I wish I stopped eating when I get stressed. I have just avoided the scales during this whole process. I don't really do candies, I have a big downfall for carbs. Boxes and boxes of crackers. Oh, don't worry. The first moment I'm not stressed I go straight for the carbs. It's like I've exited a long torpor, and the dawn of the first day of spring is made of food. Donuts, pasta, cake, cookies, breads, and fries, consider yourselves devoured come April. You have been warned, my tasty little pretties.
quincepessa Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Wait, are you saying an all-candy diet isn't an appropriate response to anxious waiting?
PhDerp Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I ate chicken. I've been a vegetarian for 7 years. WritingTrouble 1
MoJuiced Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'm smoking cigarettes like a champ -- it's almost like I'm devouring them, but not actually because that would be gross. (Ironically: smoking is gross)
Lady Thoth Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I ate chicken. I've been a vegetarian for 7 years. I cracked and have had two chickens since January (from a local farm). Vegetarian for 4 years. Guilt - aplenty.
thenewgirl10 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I should buy stock in Mars candy because I have bought so many packs of m&ms to stress eat that it is ridiculous. I can't wait to finally go back to eating and feeling like a normal human
marsmat Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I am happily and rapidly getting fat in this waiting period which I think is fair and perfectly natural. Soon, I will be a student and extravagant substances like meat, alcohol, cigarettes, cakes etc will again be out of reach for economic reasons. Let the last few months of hedonism commence!

I like your style. XD
Kaitri Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I've consumed sooooo much chocolate and way too many cups of coffee. My achilles heel? Lindt chocolate. 90% cacao. That stuff is pure bliss....
mrendon Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Stress non-eater teach me your ways! My consumption of peanut M&Ms is out of control!
starofdawn Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I've gained 15 pounds since July, when this whole process started kicking into high gear. That's a lot for someone who is 5'1. I might, legitimately, be overweight. It might be stress-eating, or it might be the advantages of my youth slipping away. Stomach: "You had 2 beers today? Here's an extra inch on your waistline! Lol you're not 22 anymore!"
ihatechoosingusernames Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Stress non-eater teach me your ways! My consumption of peanut M&Ms is out of control! Have you had those huge bags from Walmart? It didn't last me too long :-/
gingin6789 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 *stares at giant bag of cheese curls sitting next to me* I'm not ... *takes a handful of cheese curls out of the bag* ... stress eating ... I have no idea what you're talking about ... You say: "But gingin, you've already heard from your all of your schools ..." *munching noises continue* I've got a recruitment visit coming up and decisions to make. Therefore, cheese curls. PhDerp Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Reading this thread, I went and grabbed a can of Pringles. >_< EngineerGrad 1
thenewgirl10 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Stress non-eater teach me your ways! My consumption of peanut M&Ms is out of control! Yes. The peanut ones are addictive.
HockeyNerd Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 This is my new favorite thread. I am not alone! Also boxes of cereal. I don't even need milk, seriously dry honey nut cheerios are the best. MoJuiced 1
elliewest09 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I've gained ten pounds since my first application.... I can't take it.
microarray Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I was eating chocolate and other sweets every single day. Just got accepted today so hopefully I can curb my stress eating habits!
east-coast-girl Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Peanut butter straight from the jar, cereal, coffee, and cookies are all my kryptonite. Ironically, I have also been going to the gym a lot so it counterbalances some of the negative ramifications.
AwesomeBird Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Must. Stop. At least we haven't become a bundle of raging alcoholics... yet. Maybe if I become obsessive about my body it will ease the obsession of admissions... naaaah.
