1 week left everyone

I have midterms coming up and an article due at the end of the semester so I am trying to keep myself occupied with that but I still find myself checking scores of past accepted students, checking this forum, and checking the application page.

If you guys get into HGSE, will you definitely go?

Me: not sure yet...

If I get in, I'll for sure go. Didn't apply anywhere else!

Me too, I've got 2 midterms and a paper due this week. Doesn't look like I'll be studying or working on anything... my mind is always here.

Most likely. I'd hesitate only because it would be a drastic, drastic life change for me.

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there as we wait. I'm in the same boat as you rhfer and gradsch2015 - I have 4 midterms to take as well as one paper  :(  I can't seem to focus on my studies as I wait for the masters decisions. Thankfully my Spring Break begins next week so I can recover from my workload as well as the big news.

Btw, has everyone watched the "Master Class" lectures on YouTube that HGSE posts? They currently have four posted and they're super interesting! I just watched all four this week and got even more excited to study there. I recommend you guys check them out if you havn't already.

Best Wishes to us all! :D

I'll join for sure. I also didnt apply elsewhere.

BigDreams,i saw some of the lectures last year. I think there are more than 4. I like the one with the concept of "average student". U r right, they are really interesting videos. They make u want to join right away and sit in that lecture hall!

Hi all -

I am anxiously awaiting to hear back from HGSE. I was hoping to get some insight from everyone on how HGSE works with applicants with low GRE scores, but years of experience. Let me know what you all think. Here are my stats:

GRE Score (Revised): V 60th percentile Q 15th percentile (so low, but math is not my friend) AWA:4.0

GPA: Undergrad - 3.3, Masters (in Early Childhood Education) 3.9
Work Experience: 2 years Teach For America Pre K teacher, Founding teacher at charter school in a major city, summer working with TFA, 2 years as a teacher and in leadership at KIPP, leadership program participant through Leaders for Educational Equity
Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): Private, liberal arts
Research Experience: Early education focused
Applying for PhD or Masters: Masters, 2015.
Program: Ed Policy
What Other Schools Are You Applying To: Law Schools (Accepted: American U, BC)

Hey! You and me both, I applied with really really low GRE scores as well. I've emailed admissions about my scores as well, they had told me for the program I'm applying to (IEP) they mainly focus on the AWA score, as it's super writing intensive. Are you applying to EPM or IEP? I wouldn't worry too much, they do employ a holistic approach, and I'm hoping it works in our favor. I think you have great credentials, don't worry too much - at this point as scary as it sounds, our decisions are basically made and we're just waiting for them to tie up loose ends and update the system!

Hey Ess14,

You're right... I managed to find a fifth Master Class recording on YouTube but none of the others. Where can I find the rest? (particularly the one you recommend about the "average student")

This could be the week everyone! between tomorrow and Friday we can potentially get our results! :P

I think it will be Friday as well. I am supposed to hear back this week on whether or not I have been given an interview for the Zuckerman Fellowship. I don't know if the interview is contingent on admissions to the respective school or not but I did notice on a past thread that an individual was notified several days before that he had been admitted before the rest of the masters applicants had found out. He had mentioned that he thought it had something to do with his fellowship interview, so if I hear anything then I will let y'all know

Yeah, higher chance it'll be on Friday rather than Thursday! Good luck with the Zuckerman Fellowship! Yes, please let us know if you find out anything sooner!

Here's the link to the lecture on "Average student": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GcJi4eaSeY

Just realized these videos are put under "8 for 8" and not master class. Worth watching, nonetheless.

Thanks for the link Ess14! I really enjoyed the video! And you've just provided me with another YouTube Playlist to help distract/inspire me while we wait!

Yeah, Friday does seem to be the most popular prediction. Question: Will those who are accepted be invited to visit the campus? Posts from previous years refer to an orientation/welcome event for admitted students.

Yeah, they have "visit days" which is usually the first weekend of April (at least for the last few years, it has been).

I'm turning off my email notifications on both my laptop and phone! I need to discipline myself to not open my email while I'm on campus or work... It could get ugly...

Glad you liked it BigDreams!

Eagerly waiting for Friday. Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know the racial composition of the EDM cohorts? It seems as if some are more diverse than others. I know they don't release this information.

Anyone applying to Human Dev and Psych? How sure are we that decisions will be out on Friday? I'm going crazy over here. I hope it's sooner since I'll most likely have to wait for UCLA decisions until April.
