Have any syntax/semantics-type people been interviewed? 3 weeks ago I seem to remember it was the phonology people and then they said other specialisations might interview later, but I'm starting to feel like all interviews must have taken place. If I had more choices, I would like to have the chance to visit as many schools as possible while I'm in the US, but so far I've only got one Open House invite, and it seems like most of the other schools I applied to have already sent out their acceptances/open house invites. I was lucky enough to get a really good deal on the ticket though! Funny thing is, the domestic ticket ended up costing me just as much! The department said they can partially reimburse me on the domestic ticket, but not the international. Oh well. I need to really cut down on spending for the rest of the semester. For me, every school has been very open about how much they can guarantee and how much they might have left on top of that if the initial amount doesn't cover all my flights. I'm in the syntax-semantics group. I asked the same thing some pages ago, and someone told me that NYU doesn't send official rejections right away... so I assumed the worst. I'm also flying from overseas and I have a long and expensive journey from Argentina to the US (up to now, I'm traveling to visit only UChicago), so I'm waiting for some schools (UMass Amherst, UCSC, MIT, UPenn (they interviewed me)) because I want to visit as many schools as I can. As far as I know, the department itself does not send out the rejections; official rejections come from GSAS. I saw from the results pages that UMass general does not conduct interview. May I ask whether the interview you got in the past was a standard interview with bunch of people in adcom or a personal interview with just your POIs? I was interviewed by someone who was about to join the department back then; I didn't identify them as my POI in my SOP because I didn't know they were joining the department, but our interests aligned quite well, so they contacted me for an interview. As far as I know, UMass doesn't always conduct interviews, though, and my case was more of an exception. Also, I don't know whether the 'standard' interview is 'with a bunch of people in adcom'. It is my second time applying to MIT. It looks like I won't be able to attend MIT for the rest of my life. Too bad.
