Thank you! And congratulations on your acceptance to Arizona!

I'm still waiting for UW-Seattle, UC Davis, CUNY, and Florida. The fact that UW started sending out notices last week was worrying; I still haven't heard anything from them, but I'm hoping "no news is good news" applies right now.

Thanks! Yeah I was just telling my parents today that I wish CUNY would hurry up and make decisions already! Because I'm going to Arizona's recruitment weekend, I'm going to stop in NYC for a few days to visit my parents (who live there), and it would just be so perfect to visit at CUNY as well.

(totally off topic but I'm so excited to go to the US for a visit! Haven't seen my parents in like a year! And I've never been to Arizona but I hear it's beautiful.)

Guys!! I received an interview invitation from Kansas! It looks like this interview is very a-typical because I am not told what kind of questions they would like to ask in their invitation form.

Last year, I had an interview with HAWAII, and Hawaii gave me a list of questions to prepare. But this time Kansas does not even tell me what they would like to ask! I am freaking out!

Any suggestion about how to deal with interview like this?

I'm in the same UW boat! Didn't see any acceptances, so I'm sorta hoping those are yet to be released :]

Is it like an in person interview? Or skype interview? Is it with your POI, or a bunch of people? I was emailed by my POI in UCSB (ultimately rejected) and Pittsburgh (interviewing in an hour!) asking for a Skype interview, and I didn't receive a list of questions. Just a general like "let's talk about your research interests" kind of thing. So I have like no idea what I'm going to be asked.

According to a friend of mine who goes to UC Davis, they're not meeting to discuss admissions until mid- to late-February. :( (I'm also a part of the UC Davis wait-a-thon.)

Has anybody heard from the UIUC PhD program?

I saw on the results page that people got answers a few weeks ago. Search "Linguistics UIUC" and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also a few days ago someone got accepted to the MA program. I applied for the MA/PhD and haven't heard anything yet. I don't know whether this is an assumed rejection, or that they haven't finished their decisions for the MA/PhD program. I think we discussed it on this thread a page or two back

Does anyone have any info about USC (Southern California, not South Carolina)? I haven't heard anything, and for the past few years on the results page the decision notifications (at least for the admitted students) seemed to come in during the last week of January or the first 1-2 days of February. I know they extended their application deadline by a few days due to technical issues, so maybe that pushed back the process a bit?

I'd appreciate any info from other 2016 applicants, or from current USC Linguistics students. Thanks!

It is an Skype/Phone interview. Presumably it is with a bunch of people because in the email they use the plural "faculty members" but they did not specify whether these people are my POIs or these people are comprised of the whole Adcom.

Hey Vonham, I'm going to UArizona's visiting weekend too! What kind of research are you hoping to do there?

I applied to USC last year, but I did not get in. I got my result from my POI. You can email your POI and ask for a result. Some of the profs seem to be quite forthcoming to tell you the result before the formal notification from the university comes out (and it took ages to get the formal notification last year).

I have a good news for you. I applied to the MA program at UIUC. But given that I have already got a Ph.D. acceptance elsewhere, there is no point to get an M.A.(which is a second masters for me). So, should I be accepted by UIUC, I plan to decline and this means potentially there will be an extra spot open. Hope this will help you in case you need this spot.

Yay! Linguistics PhD? I applied for the joint anthropology and linguistics PhD. My research interests the interactional and macrosocial forces that shape language use in multilingual and minority language contact situations. I've worked with Scottish Gaelic before, and hope to continue with the language. Arizona has a celtic research group, and has a grant to study Scottish Gaelic, so yay!

I'm so ridiculously excited!! What are your research interests?

I heard one of my friends got waitlist yesterday (Fri) afternoon, and saw a post of admission this morning. I guess they must have made their decision, and sent out (at least some of) their offers.

Sad...

Does anybody know if UChicago has sent out all the admission offers already? I only see two UChicago posts so far, so I'm still holding on to this little bit of hope...

Hi, I was one of the two UChicago posts. They have sent all the official admission offers and all the invitations to the visit in march/april as well. They have also sent us a list of all the people who were accepted (10).

Awesome, I guess I'll see you there then! I'm interested in the morphology of loan verbs into Semitic languages from non-Semitic languages, and how the verbal system accommodates all the structural clashing that goes on in those contexts. I started work on this issue in my BA thesis, and they must have liked it! I'm really there for Professor Ussishkin, the specialist in Semitic psycholinguistics and lexicon work, who I spoke to just recently, he seems fantastic. By the way, do you happen to know whether the funding they offer is enough to live on in Tucson?

Interesting! I am actually taking a course on loan word phonology this semester.  We talk mostly about English loanwords into Hebrew (cuz I live in israel ). But my term paper in that class is the opposite: english hebrew bilingual use of loanwords from hebrew to english.  From a previous project (my writing sample) I have a pretty hefty corpus of bilingual interaction and basically am trying to tease apart loanwords from 1 word switches.

I actually don't know the details of the funding package, except that for linguistics funding is guaranteed for 4 years, and for the ANLI program, 5 years.   But I don't know amounts or anything.  Nor do I know anything about Tucson, except that I perused the city guide thread here and it said that a 1 bedroom apartment costs around $400-600, which is pretty cheap coming from where I am.  Anyway if you were told numbers kindly PM me that information.  Otherwise I figure I'll just ask when I'm at the recruitment weekend.

I got my unofficial rejection email from Sun-ah jun (UCLA) ?? it was my top choice and I really wanted to work with her... Congrats to those who got in. Great school and great faculty...enjoy.

and by the way she said that they have notified all the accepted and waitlisted applicants. So if you haven't heard from them you are probably rejected.

Does anyone want to claim the Rutgers acceptance? Seems strange that there's only one, even after a few days of posting.

That's me. Viviane Deprez emailed me with the offer and funding package about a week ago. I've no idea if anybody else has been notified yet, but if anybody wants any more details, feel free to message me.
