med latte Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Well, we're past the February halfway point, and we're all still breathing. That's something. Good luck, everyone!
porcorosso Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Applied to 10 schools. Two rejections came in! So that is something... I am about to pass out. If I were admitted to one of the schools I applied by now, my mentality was a lot different. I feel I should start applying for jobs in case I will not get in this year.
CornUltimatum Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Well I've been finally contacted, and invited to two recruitment weekends one of them is set up, and ready to go. The other was on the same date as the first recruitment weekend I was offered, and I'm still waiting to hear back to reschedule it. I've been in panic mode because right now it's my favorite program and I don't want to screw everything up. The remaining 4 schools I've still heard nothing from... I'm expecting a rejection from one... They're sort of notorious for not handing out rejections until April... And they have already admitted one person... Not a good sign. RecommendedByGuyFieri 1

CornUltimatum Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Thank you! I am seriously SO PUMPED! I was soooo skeptical my favorite program would conact for recruitment, but they did! I just need to set up arragements to visit a different weekend and it should all be good.

I noticed that you've got accepted by one university, so congrats. You don' need to feel that stressed now. I've applied to 9 schools and I've only heard from one and it's an rejection which is not surprised to me, it's berkeley after all. I've send emails to most of the schools asking for their decision date and in their replies some of them told me that most decisions are made in late Feb and March. So I still have hope, at least that's what I'm trying to tell myself. porcorosso 1
RecommendedByGuyFieri Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 My story: I applied to six programs. Two applications were due 12/15, two due 1/1, and two due 1/15. I hadn't heard from any of them until a few minutes ago. A few minutes ago, I found out I was accepted to my safety program. It's a master's in GIS at Clark University. My bachelor's is in computer science, and I would prefer to continue in CS, so it is not ideal. It's also only about 50% funded, and I strongly prefer not to take on any more loans. (I'm certainly grateful for the scholarship offer! But Clark is quite an expensive school, so it doesn't go as far as you might imagine.) All that said, the Clark program is a nice one, and it is a relief to have one acceptance under my belt. My other master's app was for CS at McGill. It seems they are famous for responding late, so I am not especially worried. I don't expect to hear from them for another month. The other four programs are computer science PhDs. The GradCafe survey has seen acceptances and interview invites recorded for all of them, all between one and three weeks ago. I haven't heard anything. So I am pretty discouraged. Obviously, I'm not dead yet; but, about as obviously, I'm not a first-choice candidate for any of these departments. Reading others' stories here, I wish I had applied to more programs. I didn't know six was considered not that many! And now that my top picks are fading, I wish I had more choices. I don't know if I'll go to Clark if that ends up as my one grad school option. I'm fortunate to be doing well in a career I'm decently satisfied with, which means I have other directions to go.

Now I feel a lot better since I do not have to my back-up plan any more. Plus, UChicago was one of my top choices. Apparently, the departments handle the applications in different fashions. From the schools I applied to, I feel the physics departments at Cornell and UChicago send offer letters at one sitting, and they will send additional offers after they hear some of their offers are declined. Other schools take several rounds to admit students. I know the physics department of Michigan did that last year. Yeah. Berkley is a very popular (/competitive) school, and definitely needs some luck to get in as well. I have seen many acceptances/rejections in late March and early March from last year's results. So I am confident that the search is still on. I hope you will hear back a good news from the schools soon! (Sooner is better)
Nicole Gilbert Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I've heard nothing. I bought each of my recommenders a bottle of wine as a thank you gift. If I get in, I'll send them; if I don't, I'll drink them. magnetite, RNtertainment, cpctc1 and 7 others 10
Unimpressed3D Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Heard back from one more school: Princeton (English). Rejected, alas. Still waiting on 11/14 schools. Does anyone know if there are any schools who contact you by phone? I may have been having issues receiving calls the last 2 weeks. I don't think initial contact by phone is at all likely, but of course I'm liable to freak out at a time like this. I tried checking the status of my applications, but most of the systems don't seem to allow that. They just say the application has been successfully submitted.

med latte Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I need a pep talk. Please, somebody loan me the discipline to not contact the program and ask when decisions will be made. I know I shouldn't do that, but......ugghhh.....

I had my interview exactly one month ago, and I was told to expect result within 2-3 weeks. Still no news now about that application. Therefore, I sent an email to ask about my admission status this morning lol... If you have waited long enough, I think you should think of emailing them.
astrochild Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Still waiting to hear back from UMich Ann Arbor - AOSS Ph.D. and UCLA's AOSS Ph.D. programs. Both schools had deadlines on Dec. 15th and 10th, respectively and though UCLA states that decisions are made in March, I'm seeing other people post results from them. Unfortunately I only applied to 5 schools, and so far I have been rejected by 3 of them. Starting to feel the anxiety as I am not sure what my plans will be if I do not get accepted into either of these schools; the jobs I have been interested in require higher education or pursuit of higher education, so what next?
med latte Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I see from GradCafe results that decisions for the program I'm waiting on have come out between Feb. 22 and 28. There is a new program director, though, so the process and timeline might be different now. So..... I'm going a bit nuts right now. Can you break the internet from refreshing a results page too often?
Nirvik Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Joining the Anxious community. Having a rough week as well. Mostly due to the no responses. Immediately bombarded the graduate coordinators with mails and they hassled to send me some short replies regarding the status of my application. No other responses so far.
RNtertainment Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Happy hump day! We are halfway through the week, and I have not heard anything back yet. My anxiety seems to increase as each day passes with no results. I applied to one school due to circumstances. I was working full time as a RN, completing a year long full time RN-BSN program and conducting my IRB approved research project at my hospital in 2015, so I didn't have much time to spare! I had been communicating with one professor whom is tremendously helpful, kind and intelligent. She was one of the interviewers on my phone interview I had last month, which helped a little with interview anxiety (a little). UNC is my dream school, so I am hoping for good news! Has anyone heard back from UNC-CH PhD in nursing? Or even the masters program? I am wondering how common it is for PhD applicants in nursing to be accepted to the MSN programs instead? Crossing my fingers, toes and eyes that everyone gets good news soon!
JJEdwards Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I had a dream that Bill Nye gave me my acceptance letter to CU Boulder...Reality is depressing. I've applied to 4 schools (I couldn't afford to apply to any more) and I haven't heard a thing from any of them! I've never felt so anxious in my life!! Good luck to everyone..hopefully no news is good news! RecommendedByGuyFieri 1
oracle989 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Anyone have some good cocktail pairings for rejection letters? I'm thinking it might be time to get ready.

Bromosas: Half Coors Lite and half Orange Juice. Easy on the taste, gives you the electrolytes to stave off that headache from all the other cocktails we're gonna be downing.

The new director must have a much different process than his predecessor. I thought I was days away from hearing. Now I gotta wait another month.
ChrisTOEFert Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) A little bit different, but I'm still waiting on one more school. It (was) my top choice, but I got a great offer I couldn't refuse that had a very short window of acceptance and I had to jump on it. I feel all of your pain, but you will hear results soon! Hopefully all good! I'm secretly hoping that even though I have decided that I get into the other school to make it a shut out 5/5 for Fall 2016...and maybe a free trip to Germany for a couple days?
