WL at Illinois-Urbana Champaign!

I noticed you've been admitted to the MA at IUPUI. I've been at a conference there hosted by Tim Lyons over the last few days, and if you're interested in phil science (don't know if you are), Tim Lyons is f***ing cool. Seriously great guy.

Congrats! Just declined their offer, hope it helps you!

I was told the waitlist was very short (about as many WL as there were accepts), so you might have honestly gotten me an admit. Thank you!!

I was looking at the faculty and I am very interested in phil of science. I really like what IUPUI has to offer (though I don't know how much funding, if any, I'm getting), so your advice is very helpful. Thank you so much!

I hope so, let us know! I went to visit there before I applied and met several of the faculty - everything made a good impression on me and it seems like a good program. Best of luck!

Well, today has been annoyingly slow so far (for me, at least). So I was wondering if someone could give me their perspective on something. It seems I am, probably, somewhere in the middle of the waitlist for both Indiana-Bloomington and Syracuse (though I know waitlists can be ranked in a very loose way). I've been told that I'm not at the bottom, but I've also not been told I'm at the top of either one; presumably if I were, they would say so. So the question is this: how likely do folks get accepted off waitlists in such positions? Is it pointless to make any predictions? Perhaps, but I'd like anyone's input.

You might email your contact at each school and ask if someone in a comparable rank to yours on the WL has gotten in in past years. That might be helpful... our speculation is really just that, speculation.

I think that's good advice. I've been told from Indiana that applicants in my position have received offers before April 15th. So that's certainly encouraging. I suppose, though, that I was looking for some general probabilities regarding applicants getting in off waitlists, despite not being on or near the top. Although I suspect that, for most, that's just speculation, I thought I would ask in case someone had good reason to assign some non-arbitrary probability.

Yale waitlist, anyone?

That would be me! I really wasn't expecting this, and had completely reconciled myself to being rejected from Yale. I still doubt any of those admitted would turn down their offers...

came here to ask the same thing... not sure which other post they messed up?

I made another post in which I mislisted my status, my AW score, and misspelled philosophy.

Hi! I am also claiming one of the Yale waitlists! :)

@kantbook - yay for Kantians at Yale!

Ecstatic to report that I was WL as well!

Question for the Kantians: What's your AOI? Mine is ethics and political. They may admit off the waitlist based on AOI, so I hope you two aren't also ethics. :)

Looking forward to meeting you in April!

Congrats to both of you! Mine are Kant's metaphysics and philosophy of mind, so I definitely won't be competition for you. I wonder if they're gonna pit us Kantian against one another

Hahah! Mine is Kant's theoretical philosophy primarily, and then aesthetics and social/political phil. I do not know how I have been clasified :) Worth asking the adcom!

Don't lose heart over being waitlisted, then! My writing sample is on Kant's philosophy of mind, and I was accepted off of it. I'm 99.9% certain I'll turn down their offer for Pitt, so I might be your only roadblock to an acceptance!! I'll make my decision around March 20 after visiting Pitt. I wish I could free up more than one space for everybody :(

Good luck, Kantians! My writing sample and research fellowship was on Kant as well.

Now I'm curious to know what other schools want more Kantians too...
