I am under the same impression (that not too many research-creation projects get funded) but I also applied under this category and did get funded this year (after being waitlisted last year). So it is possible! Good luck to all.

Thanks for the beacon, I'll take it.

It's my final year to apply as I'll be entering my last PhD year (writing-up year in the UK) for 2017-18. I applied for the graduate SSHRC the last two years but although was brought forward to the national competition nothing came of either year. I rewrote and structured the proposal completely differently this year. Who knows what it is they're looking for in the end.

I was successful with an MA SSHRC so that's at least something I can take away if I'm denied yet again!

Is it still the case that you get a big brown envelope if you win and a smaller white letter envelope if you're unsuccessful or wait-listed?

Nope. Same envelope for everything.

Ah good.

When I won the MA SSHRC I received a big manila envelope with many papers and notification letters and such. When denied the CGS, twice now, I received a small white envelope akin to all my tiny disappointments.

I've heard nothing yet. I'm assuming the worst. (My school notified me ASAP when I was forwarded... so...)

Got my letter today in Montreal! Awarded a CGS with a score of 16.4/20 (I was in committee 3) :D

Wow congrats! And that's a great score!!!

I received nothing, and a really low score of 9.2/20 from a multidisciplinary committee :( Oh well, hopefully I'll do better next year now that I have some pubs, conferences, and awards under my belt!

Has anyone in Kingston received mail yet?

Not I.

I heard from the director of my program Friday night but will not believe, cannot fully believe, until that letter is in my hands. :(

I thought we'd get mail in Kingston today....arghh!!!

Hang in there, all who are waiting. Congrats to those who've been awarded. Congrats to all, actually. Anyone who applies for this thing deserves applause. This process is nuts.

Nothing in Atlanta, unsurprisingly.

I emailed; they said to allow two weeks for delivery and contact them if it has not arrived at that point.

I'm in Vancouver, applying as a "direct applicant." This is my 5th time applying -- a mix of persistence, stubbornness, desperation, and possibly general life avoidance. Anyway, the first 2 times my application wasn't forwarded to the National Competition. The last 3 times my application was forwarded, but not given the award, or waitlisted. For the last 2 applications, I have hired a grant-writing specialist to help me. This most recent time, I hired a rather expensive one (well, pricey to me, at least).

I am in the final year of a practice-based PhD, and was assured that SSHRC doesn't judge these applications any differently, which is a bit difficult to believe, in some ways.

Oh, the mailman is here. I will wait until he leaves and check the mailbox. In February, it took me over a week to get up the nerve to actually open the envelope after it had arrived. You'd think I'd be used to the rejection by now, but it still stings.

Good luck! I was wait-listed unfortunately.

Does anyone know if Universities know the results for applicants to applied externally? I applied externally, and indicated on my application which university I intended to study at. I'm just not sure if SSHRC would have notified that University, given that I didn't apply for the SSHRC through the university. Any feedback from external applicants (or anyone who knows) would be appreciated!

Ooph... I wish I saw this earlier. I've worked with her before for my Vanier app and she's always been very helpful.

Unfortunately, I called right as the office closed so had to leave a voice mail. It really frustrates me that SSHRC can't streamline this process a little.

Direct (external) applicants are given the results, but the (non-Canadian) University is not informed, unless you (the applicant) inform them.
