Hey everyone. Since I see some of you have already started your visitations, I was wondering if you could provide some insight into attire. What are most people wearing?

I have my first visitation with a program I've been admitted to this upcoming week. I'm a male for perspective.

You're already accepted, so there's not really a need for formal attire. IMO formal attire is mostly for interviews. There's also a ton activities planned depending on where you visit. Some places have hiking trips for a good 1-2 hours. Some institutions have grad students take you to bars and stuff. So dress according to what the grad program has planned

I agree with NoMoreOrgo. I'm female, but most of the guys were dressed pretty casual. Just sweaters or button-up shirts and khakis or nice jeans.

Also, keep in mind that you might not be able to go back to the hotel in between activities. For example, at U chicago we arrived to campus at 8am and had interviews and a tour, went to dinner with faculty, then went to the bar. I got back to the hotel around 12am.

Has anyone heard anything from Vanderbilt? I noticed in the results thread that there have a few acceptances and rejections but I still haven't heard anything.

Good points. Thanks for the responses.

I received an unofficial offer. I know a couple of the faculty there during my internship.

Does anyone know when the visitation weekends for UNC, NYU, Boston College, or Emory are? I'm hoping this gives me an idea of whether or not there's still hope

To the people that said they checked the school's website regarding a status on their application to Vanderbilt or Dartmouth, where exactly was the update posted?

Also, has anyone heard back from USC that has reached out to them?

USC has had financial package troubles and their letters are going out later than expected. I do know for a fact though, that some have already been accepted into the program.

In regard to Dartmouth, I know they had interviews this past weekend and they have more interviews this upcoming weekend. I was notified by email by the department chair though!

In regard to Vanderbilt, I am still waiting for a response as well!

Has anyone gotten an outright rejection from Berkeley yet? I'm assuming I didn't get in at this point, but I'm just curious.

Hey @Dibenzofulvene I know we were both waiting on UW-Madison. I got an email yesterday saying I'm at the top of the waitlist and they will know if a spot opens up for me on April 15th at the latest. So I don't really know how to feel now, pretty anxious about more waiting time and kind of defeated that I wasn't good enough for the first cut. Sending good vibes <3

Thanks for the info. Did you contact USC?

Have you tried calling them L543? I saw that someone contacted them a week ago and was told they were waitlisted.

Also, someone told me last week that Wisc admits a couple people after the first visit weekend (which is this weekend), but I do not know the accuracy of that statement.

ETA at this point: I've gotten two rejections (Stanford, Yale) and haven't heard back from two schools (Wisconsin, Penn). Someone told me two months ago that Penn was on the fence with my application, so I'm assuming a waitlist at this point.

I have not tried calling, perhaps I will do that. It just seemed weird to me that they have an email specifically for "prospective students", but then they don't respond to prospective students' emails. Well anyway, good luck to you!

Has anyone had any weird/uncomfortable visits? Or have your visits been positive?

I didn't really like UCSF CCB Visit. I know the school is more oriented for postdocs. They gave me a map to go find professors all over the campus in different buildings without an escort, which was pretty difficult; I was also late to every meeting with professor, because each meeting went over the time limit.

On the other hand, Princeton was extremely friendly and considerate. I was always surrounded by several grad students and faculty wherever I went, and I felt very welcomed. UCI visit (individual) was okay too. Looking forward to some March visits!

I think after going on a couple of visits, you'll get a sense of which school really cares about you and fits you. I thought UCSF was normal since it was my first one, but I've experienced better ones after.
