I would love to apply to Yale if they had my major. Baffles me why they don't have any new media as "Area of Study"

I applied anyway under sculpture.  Thats probably part of the reason I got rejected.  Half my work is Algorithms, the rest is sculpture.

Hi all,

I've not seen much (or any) mention of the schools I applied to, so I was wondering if anyone had heard any news from these schools:

UGA

UNC Chapel Hill

UC Boulder

U Oregon

UMN Twin Cities

I also applied to Tulane and UN Lincoln, but as their deadlines are later I'm not quite as anxious about those yet. I was notified last year of being waitlisted at UGA on 1/31, so my stomach is in knots having not heard anything from them by this point  Also, I am applying in printmaking - it seems my field is underrepresented on this thread!

I also applied to UMN Twin Cities, for Printmaking as well. Nothing back on my end as well.

Yeah I was thinking about it but then even if I got in, would I have to take sculpture classes and how well would the faculty be versed in the stuff I'm interested? The rep of Yale didnt seem to justify the risk of having an ill-fitting major imo.

Yeah I hear ya.  I wasn't really set on Yale,  looking more toward UCLA or MIT

congrats to everyone on their interviews!

Is anyone else traveling to interviews with large paintings? It will be too costly to ship or fly with them stretched so I'm debating rolling them up. I'm just worried about how I'll show them unstretched...

Don't worry when I went to the open house, the professors made a point that they paintings can be unstretched. They understand the logistic of traveling with large art. Best of luck

I wish I knew about this forum when I first filled out my applications! Has anyone had any updates from UChicago or UIC? Starting to get antsy after a rejection from Yale and Northwestern.

Hey!

Has anyone heard from Cal Arts/SVA/RISD?
I applied all of them for Graphic Design program (Design program for SVA).
God I've been very anxious lately.

Hi there! I also applied to CalArts and SVA for graphic design and haven't heard anything yet. I have been very anxious since I studied a different major for my BFA and is clueless about how big a chance I have :(

I applied to Tulane last year. Very competitive. I almost reapplied this Year. I also Applied to University of Florida! Good luck. Do not give up. I have applied for the past two years to schools and was only accepted at Portland State-great program. but the funding was not enough for me to attend.  Apply to more if you feel like its a good idea. If it makes you feel any better. I just found out my teacher did not submit a recommendation that was due on the 15th to University of South Florida. pretty disappointed. I really wanted to have chance there. But I probably did not get in sadly. Some apps are better than others I suppose. My FSU app is strong but so is mY UF App. It is a learning process.

Thanks! I appreciate it! I'm wondering if I've done enough. This is really stressing me out. I've grown impatient

I did go to the art college for my BFA but was not graphic design major. I realized my interest in graphic design during my senior year which was not too long ago. I wish the best luck for you:)! I guess we just have to anxiously wait for few more days/weeks for the interview invite result.

Hey, thanks for letting me know. I saw your comment about getting an interview earlier while I was reading the whole thread. Congratulations on your interview! I am just wondering if anyone who applied for graphic design program also got the invite on the same day. (CalArts website mentions that they will notify in mid-February.) I wish the best luck on your interview!

Hey Aby, thanks you and best the luck of you too! Do you mean you went to Cal Arts for undergrad? If so – what do you think are the pros/cons of CalArts? I'm unsure if I'll like suburbia all that well, unsure about Valencia mostly. (Especially since I can't drive!)

This does not necessarily mean the GD invites have been sent, but for its worth my invite implies the School of Art conducts interviews on the same day, including Art, GD,  Photo, etc.

Hi! CalArts sent out their GD MFAa notifications on Feb. 15th last year; you'll receive an email to log into the application website to view the decision. :)

how are you guys dealing with waiting? I'm not a very good waiter... and it's pretty much all I think about. I cannot concentrate on anything. Painters?  Do you have any recommendations on reads, or documentaries or whatever I can entertain myself with

Hey I'm in the exact same boat as you, BFA senior year realization and everything lol. I'm nervous as heck as well and have no idea where I stand, so good luck to all! Just curious if you are applying towards three-year gd programs or the two-year?

I'm glad I'm not the only one and wishing you the best luck to you too! I applied mostly for three-year gd programs except for SVA since they didn't have one. I also applied for Yale MFA GD 3-yr track which turned out to be the first rejection I got. But good amount of sleep and ice cream made me overcome the sadness. I'm such an easy person.

Haha, shouldn't be surprising to say same here! But I've long convinced myself I wasn't hopeful, just curious  Applied to RISD as well, so crossing my fingers for both of us.

I really liked “Clear Seeing Place:Studio Visits” by Brian Rutenburg

and:

33 Artists In 3 Acts / 7 days in the Art World

(these are written for non artists but do include some neat details from her interviews and studio-visits)

and for fun!

“Provenance” by Salisbury and Sujo

Book reccomendations are a great idea for the waiting time! I can’t wait to hear what others are reading :)
