For Sociology, people generally refer to the USNew's rankings of Sociology programs. Per U.S. News methodology, Sociology's response rate was 33 percent. By contrast, the response rate for Criminal Justice programs was 90 percent. Rankings were based solely on the impressions of department heads and director of graduate studies that responded to the survey.

From what I understand, the U.S. news ranking is considered the most important. 

No problem with the school! I think Canadian schools are (wrongly) not on the radars of a lot of American applicants -- I know speaking for myself I thought most / all international schools wouldn't have full funding available, so when I found out some did I was deciding very closely between McGill & Toronto and chose Toronto for area match. Geez, this thread went from high anxiety generating to deeply toxic. Feels good that I avoided the forums this time around. My condolences to all the real humans that had to sit through the toxic troll fest.
Good luck with the arduous path of an academic life for those who will be starting the PhD this year, and my best wishes to those who will try again with applications next year around. I applied to 12 programs last year, and got rejected from all. This time around I applied to 10, and got accepted to 2 programs ranked in the 10s and 2 programs ranked in the 30s. I am really excited about this, especially given that I got into one of my dream schools! Amazing things can happen...

I told my partner I'd like to just be in a medically induced coma for the next three weeks so it's all over when I wake up. (Sorry, insensitivity.) Was hoping I'd feel mostly relieved after the long & painful application process but the anticipation is almost worse!

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow.... I figure at least it will distract me through the weekend. So that's exciting I guess. lol.

Right now I'm broadly interested in wealth inequality and social stratification, particularly in education and the workforce.
