Hi all I just wanted to take a minute to express gratitude to those on this thread as you have all helped me and eased anxiety during this admissions period! I think all of us should be extremely proud of ourselves and all of our accomplishments up to this point are extremely impressive and I am sure whatever graduate program we choose we will continue to do impressive and amazing things. People do not go into social work for the money neccessarily, so it really goes to show how much we all value education and bettering ourselves to continue to serve our communities. I know social work can be a thankless job sometimes so I just wanted to acknowledge all of our hard work does not go unnoticed(:

I haven't heard anything from Fordham either, but they sent an email saying they are aiming to have emails for interviews out by the 19th. Good luck, everyone!

Good to hear everyone's positive news! Especially since I've gotten the opposite. I sent a brief email just asking for an update, and I got the following:

"At this point it is not likely that we will be able to upgrade any alternates because the principal candidates have accepted their grant offers. That said, it is in the realm of possibilities that a principal could decline after accepting the award, but it is not a likely possibility."

So, time to re-sign my lease, and find a job that excites me half as much as the fellowship would have. Good luck to the other alternates!

Hope you've heard something since this message! I sent a "thanks for the opportunity to interview" email, and was politely told that I was on the waitlist. Fingers crossed!

I agree. I am beyond stressed being on the waitlist for my top choice as well, and I would love for people to make decisions, but maybe they are waiting on other schools, are waitlisted themselves by their top choice etc., or who the heck knows what else, so nothing we can do but wait. That being said, it would be cool if people would decline as soon as they know they aren't going 100% but the truth is everyone is waiting on other programs and people as well, so not cool to pressure anyone into declining or accepting. It's not like people are holding on to offers to torture those on the waitlist.

Yo - programs aren't supposed to pressure applicants to make a decision before April 15th, so we shouldn't be pressuring people to make decisions, either. I keep seeing a lot of posts in the results section telling people to hurry up and accept/decline which isn't cool. Of course I'd love to have closure, but I would never pressure another applicant to make a decision. Hopefully it's no one from these threads but just in case, I wanted to reiterate this point.

so i received rejections from all 9 schools applied to initially. all colorado ph.d. programs plus u of wyoming ph.d. had my breakdown, cried a lot of tears, blah blah blah. however, in late january, i found five more programs with application deadlines in feb-march:
divine mercy university psy.d (i interviewed here in 2019 while i was still in undergrad and strongly believe the reason i didn't get in then was because i was so young and only had volunteer clinical experience + 2 years of research. now, i graduate with my master's in may and have two years of clinical experience)
    PCOM psy.d
    midwestern university glendale psy.d
    midwestern university downer's grove psy.d
    palo alto clinical ph.d.
if you know anything about any of these programs, please let me know! i know midwestern has a bad reputation on reddit and student doctor network, but i wanted to see what yall had to say, as this thread is WAY more positive and supportive. Also, moratorium on the cost of these programs, i am so tired of reading so much negativity surrounding this topic on student doctor network and reddit lmao.
i received an official interview for DMU today, which i am really excited and confident about (they also offered me a 25% tuition reduction if i am accepted, which i am THRILLED about)

It's very common, but if you want more concrete data I would look up the ratio of offers extended to offers accepted in each program (I first saw that data in the Insider's Guide, not sure if it's available elsewhere). If you see that the program extended 18 offers last year and 6 were accepted, there's a pretty good chance you'll be pulled from the waitlist. if a program extends 6 offers and 6 were accepted, less so.

It depends on how big the application committee is. A week doesn't seem like a long time for your materials to make the rounds and be reviewed by all members. It also depends on the programme and competitiveness.
Can you think of anything egregious during interview or potential 'red flags' in your app? If not, then the issues that Regression brought up are even more relevant. Reach out and see if they'll give you feedback.
Definitely don't give up if you know it's what you want.

I had an interview for a smaller program and it was done really well. We had an introduction session and then a scheduled individual interview. There were also different zoom sessions we could join for financial aid or general questions about the program. I liked that we still had a schedule to follow for the morning so it made it feel more "real". I liked the one-on-one interview a lot. I do wish that we could have seen pictures or video clips of the campus or the buildings we would spend our time in. Zoom also worked really well! I have another group interview next week so we will see how that one is structured!

It's unlikely but it definitely happens! Sometimes people get an acceptance and choose not to attend interview days, sometimes people realize the program isn't a good fit for them. I'd say remain somewhat hopeful, you never know what could happen.

It’s so hard to not be discouraged. I keep telling myself that this year was different than all other years, but everyone I know who has had my current position has at least gotten in somewhere. It just feels bad!! We’ve all worked extremely hard (and through a pandemic no less) and to be met with these results feels like a slap in the face.

100000% completely agree. I’m nervous to apply next year because I feel like there are people applying with 5+ pubs, 10+poster presentations, 4.0 GPA, etc etc. Do programs not know that not everyone has a pipeline to do research equally at their universities? And that finding a CRC/RA job is almost impossible without the right connections? It absolutely disadvantages diverse applicants. For a field that praises itself to be inclusive, programs have a long way to go in terms of actual inclusiveness. It’s insane how competitive it is. People shouldn’t have to apply 3+ times to get into a program. It also really sucks to know that the people most passionate about being psychologists or doing research in a specific area get denied spots in labs. Aggggh sorry rant over.
