  1. I know I probably couldn't. How many are you planning on taking? One might be manageable, but I don't know about more than two. So far, I haven't encountered an overly tough professor.
  2. I'm taking ENMU course right now. I started in the fall. I never took any of the 8-week courses, but I hear they can be intense. I guess it just depends on what your schedule outside of taking classes is and how focused you are. I took 9 hours last semester and am taking 9 now. I'm working full-time which is why I don't want to take 8-week courses. It's better for me, personally, to stretch it out, and I'm doing well. I do love ENMU's program.
  3. Just curious, why did you have to send them if you took them as a child...?
  4. I see. Well good luck to you! I'm sure you'll be fine!
  5. I just saw this post and was wondering what happened to you?
  6. well shit. I wish I would have known that beforehand.
  7. Hi all, I'm about to continue writing my statement, and I was wondering how to address a low GPA? I graduated five years ago with a bad GPA, but since then I've taken CSD prerequisites and received all A's and B's. How should I address my low UG gpa in addition to assuring that that GPA does not reflect the type of student i'll be in graduate school?
  8. I see. Also, one last question, how many hours of ENMU's courses did you take per semester?
  9. Thanks for the response. I'm glad you told me that about the 8-week classes! Even though you worked 50-hours a week, you still had a pretty awesome GPA and you were accepted into really awesome schools, so that makes me feel pretty good. I was actually going to do USU's program originally, but they're really strict about the amount of classes they transfer over and I had also taken a majority of their required CSD courses through a university near my hometown. Since they weren't giving me much leeway with transferring courses I decided to do ENMU's program. I'm with you on the whole wanting to learn more part, but it sounds like a pretty easy going program from what you're telling me, which I'm okay with that because I work A LOT too. Do you think their program prepared you well for your graduate program?
  10. I just noticed your response. I just wanted to know overall how you felt about the program. what the courses were like; ya know the usual.
  11. If I could go back in time I would have listened to the people who were trying to give me good advice, and I would have applied for a 2nd bachelor's degree sooner. Also, don't be afraid of online programs.
  12. I see what you're saying. Thanks for your advice!
  13. Thanks for your advice. I've been researching extensively of which schools accept the last 60 hours and the major GPA. I'm also about to start tutoring for the GRE; the highest score I keep getting is a 292. I want to raise it to at least a 300 to make that look more competitive. I've also been doing volunteer work at a therapeutic horse farm, and I currently work with children on the spectrum. It's been a strenuous journey. I think my biggest mistake thus far has been not listening to those that have been through the process and were giving me helpful advice.
  14. So my unrelated UG GPA (from 5 years ago) is way less than stellar. Since then, I have taken a few CSD courses at a university near my hometown and now that I'm working full-time I'm taking an online course. They were all taken as a non-degree student. It's going to take about 3 or 4 more classes with all A's to get my last 60 hours up to a 3.0 (please don't judge me, we all have our demons), which I am capable of doing because so far all my CSD courses have been A's and B's. Anyways, I was wondering from a grad school application committee's viewpoint, or from a student with a similar experience to mine, would it be better if I got a 2nd bachelor's instead of just continuing the courses as a non-degree student? Any and all constructive criticism is appreciated. As a side note, please don't say anything along the lines of "don't try, you don't have a chance" yadda yadda. Remember, this is MY journey, not yours and I have spoken to different graduate schools about which GPA they would give more consideration to.
  15. If there's anyone out there who earned a 2nd bachelor's in communication disorders with ENMU's online program, could you please share with me your experience. Thanks!
  16. LSU Shreveport, LSUHSC, and LSU-BR each have different application processes and different requirements for admission to their program. Definitely apply to all of them if you like their programs. LSUS and LSUHSC offer a master of science, LSU-BR's is a master of arts; their program is more research-based than clinical based. Idk about LSU-BR, but I know for a fact that the other two give priority to Louisiana residents.
  17. I think you're in the wrong forum. This is a forum for Speech-Path.
  18. Quant is 147, Qual is 145. If my last two schools are not in my favor, I thought about getting a private GRE tutor. I figured having someone guide me may help with my test anxiety instead of me trying to teach myself. I had a friend who had a hard time getting into audiology school and she got a masters in oral deaf ed, the classes and research experience certainly helped with her eventual acceptance into AuD. I'm in the process of contacting the schools I got rejected from to see what else I could do to strengthen my application, and I figured if I get this other master's degree and I don't get into SLP school next year, I could at least work in the field of my other master's degree.
  19. You do have a good point, but over the past four years I've worked with deaf children, kids with ASD, and have also done volunteer work with special needs kids. It doesn't seem like it's helping much with the app, that's why I feel the need to boost the academic side.
  20. Is there anyone here who had trouble getting into an SLP program and got a master's degree in a related field (education, applied behavioral analysis, psychology, special education, etc.) then got a master's in SLP? Do you think the other master's degree boosted your application?
  21. I am a little irritated they kept me waiting this long and then it turns out I was rejected. But, I'm waiting on two other schools, so keeping my fingers crossed.
  22. It definitely couldn't hurt to contact, and since you're out of state, I'm sure you definitely want to know before making any decisions with any other school. LSUHSC told me my GRE and GPA were below the minimum standards, which I knew my GRE was. Their requirement is 296, my score was a 292. I've taken the thing 5 times and I've tried different programs and methods and can't seem to get above a 292. My major GPA is 3.3 and they've always told me they look at the major GPA, but this year they seemed to have a problem with my overall GPA, even though I graduated 5 years ago. It's kind of irritating to hear that especially since I was wait listed the first year I applied to them. I do understand their decision though. I mean, it is what it is, and I have two more schools to hear from.
  23. Omg! Are you my twin? Seriously, we have the same story. It's my GRE score that's keeping me out of graduate school too. So far I've been rejected from 3 of the 5 schools I applied to this year. 4/5 schools I applied to for the first time, one school this is my third time applying there. I've taken the GRE so many times and keep getting a 292 and my cumulative gpa is 3.3 The school I keep getting rejected from suggested to me today to retake some courses and try my best to get the GRE score up. I know this is what I want to do. I'm 27 years old, so I'm getting frustrated because I'm getting "old" and want to be settled into my career, but life has a funny way of working out sometimes. I also have worked under the supervision of SLPs and I currently do ABA therapy with kids with autism, and I also volunteer at a therapeutic riding farm. Everyone keeps telling me not to get discouraged, so you don't get discouraged either! I'm going to contact all the schools I got rejected from and ask them what I should work on. Good luck!
  24. Who else is waiting for a response? And who has gotten a response?
