  1. Mine still says under review for my (unsuccessful) applications for 2015 and 2016 - I'm not convinced they ever update SGS!
  2. I received an acceptance letter on March 10th (dated March 3rd). I wouldn't say for sure that all acceptances/waitlist notifications have gone out yet. Two years ago I received a waitlist letter in early April...
  3. If you go into your SGS profile, you should have a U of T student # assigned (not the application #). Then search up ROSI, and enter the student # and your d.o.b. as DDMMYY. (Hope that will work for you! I have never been a U of T student, but I still have a student #.) I think that if there is any change in your status it should show up on the home page.
  4. That is awesome, thank you!! So much better than last year, when I didn't even get my rejection letter until June! (The first one got lost in the mail, I guess.)
  5. I just read this on another thread: "I calledOISE and although they were reluctant to answer my questions, they did say the "financially cancelled" is a designation they apply so that students cannot accept programs when they are awarded until the requirements are met. I am finishing 4th year at UofT so this makes sense."
  6. Hi everyone, this is my third year of applying to grad programs. This year I applied again to OISE M.Ed Counselling Psychology and U of T 2 year MSW (and Ryerson's midwifery program) -- I currently cannot move out of Toronto (kids in school), and would love to be accepted to any of these programs. I just checked ROSI tonight and it says status "Invited" for the M.Ed. Counselling Psychology program -- does that mean I was accepted??? It did not say anything about the MSW program.
  7. For the second time, one of my references has said she's really busy, definitely wants to give me a reference, but I can I help her out by writing it? Ugh. Has this happened to you and what did you do?
  8. Is there anyone here who hasn't yet had a response from OISE? I haven't heard, and when I called they told me there was no set date that I would be guaranteed a response by, and that I would definitely hear by the "day before classes begin" ... what the??!! Last year, I received a letter saying I had been waitlisted and would hopefully know whether I would get in by May 15th, so I'm guessing if I've heard nothing by then I have been rejected (without any acknowledgement that they even looked at my application)?? I have to say I am a bit ticked that they don't feel a need to send a response when people have paid over $200 to apply (and most have worked hard to put that application together). Really bummed out here.
  9. OISE has taken between 32-35 for the M.Ed. Counselling & Psychotherapy in the past few years. (They send around 45 offers, but don't enrol that many.)
  10. I applied to the M.Ed. counselling & psychotherapy, and the wait to find out is killing me. I was waitlisted last year, and found out around April 2, but this year I see that others received their letters last week. Why is there no letter???!!! I also see from the ROSI stats that for the last few years, they have made around 44 offers, and but have only enrolled around 32-35 people, which leads me to believe that they don't take anyone off the wait list after people decline their offers.
  11. So I am reapplying to a very competitive program that I was waitlisted for last year. It is a counselling psychology program with a lot of emphasis on practical counselling experience, as opposed to academic/research, and we are only allowed to submit two LORs - one academic, and one professional. Last year I asked my clinic supervisor, an RN, to write me a letter, and she was happy to do so, and showed me the letter. It was very positive, but did not really go into many specifics about counselling per se. She was also very difficult to communicate with and I had major - down-to-the-wire - stress worrying about whether she would actually get the letter submitted before the deadline. This year, I asked her again, and never heard back from her. After two weeks of no response, I asked someone else, who was not a direct supervisor, but does know me, and has better credentials - a Dr./clinical sexologist. She happily agreed to write a letter, after my explaining my situation with not hearing back from her colleague. Then, a week later, I heard back from my original LOR writer, who said, I'm so sorry, of course I'll submit the letter. I mentioned that I had had feedback from the department regarding "Practical reference letter(s) should be glowing and elaborate in detail on the counselling skillsets and interventions practiced, client populations served, timeframes for these experiences, and referees should be familiar with the demands of our graduate program and the counselling profession." She said, no problem. Could you make the desired changes in the letter for me and I'll just look it over? ARGGH. So, I feel bad about writing my own stuff in her letter, but I know this happens a lot. But -- I worry that it's not ethical, and that the department may see my writing style in her essay. Also, I wonder if I would be better going with an (unseen) letter from a Dr. who is more experienced in the counselling area. And if I go with the original letter writer, how do I respond to the second person I asked? I don't want her to go to the trouble of writing me a letter that I won't end up asking her to submit. Any feedback/thoughts? This is by far the most stressful aspect of the application for me.
  12. Just want to second this. I am applying to grad schools after finishing my undergrad *over 20* years ago. I did an undergraduate thesis, and hesitated to ask my supervisor, as I thought he wouldn't remember me, or wouldn't want to be bothered after so long. I forced myself to ask him, though, because I really needed that academic reference, and to my surprise, he responded enthusiastically, and wrote me a (presumably) glowing letter -- I say that because I was waitlisted for a very competitive program last year, that, based on how long ago I graduated and how average some of my undergrad marks were, I would never have been considered for without an excellent academic reference. You don't know unless you ask, and people will often be a lot more willing than you might imagine. Good luck.
