I'm curious why "absolutely not"? I can see why you would want to refrain from programs that are not APA accred and do not plan on getting it, but programs that are in the process usually will have the accred (unless they're complete shit) by the time you graduate. Obviously you would have to cultivate your list appropriately, but for example, UHCL was "in the process" two years ago and I applied (then) anyways because it's a reputable school and had very little chance of NOT being accred. There's a time barrier between a program's inception and applying, which is why a lot of good programs are still "in process" during their first few years.

Fall 2019 Psychology PhD Applicants!
dancedementia replied to dancedementia's topic in Psychology Forum
Aww UTSW is notoriously hard to get into across the board. I actually interviewed there many years ago for their masters of nutrition program (long story) and the interview process was brutal - they chewed me up and spit me out haha. I know this sounds like a "sour grapes" situation but fingers crossed you hear some good news soon! -
Fall 2019 Clinical Psych Interview Invites

Alas, I think I'm out of the running for Drexel. Most of the calls seem to have gone out this week from all of my POIs (you're asked to rank your top 3 on the application), and I didn't receive anything. I'm not writing anything off until the end of next week, but I think it might be time to have my first application season ugly cry :') Looking through the current student profiles on my POI's lab page, I'm actually not surprised. Most of their students have 2+ years of paid lab manager/research coordinator work experience in an eating disorders lab (my research interest). I... definitely do not, haha. -

I was in a similar boat - applied mainly to clinical programs, but had two counseling programs on my radar since I was a good research match with POIs. You might get a question about "why counseling psychology specifically", but otherwise the questions will be very similar - e.g. "why our program", "what are your research interests", etc. -

Another Friday, another week of no interview invites. Anxiety central over here. One of my schools told me it never received my GRE scores -___-;; How is everyone else holding up? -

PsyD programs tend to interview later, so don't give up hope! I have a friend who applied to Widener and she hasn't heard back yet either. Fingers crossed for us all! -
Look for masters programs in "Experimental Psychology" (some of them will be called that, and some will just be called a masters in "Psychology", but some digging will reveal whether they are more applied or more experimental). Those programs will train you well in research methods and statistics (many of them require a short thesis, and research is built in to the program).

Anyone heard back from Northeastern yet? They're a pretty small cohort and don't seem to get many applications, but hopefully someone on here applied! -

Rutgers PsyD interview date is 2/18 for anyone who's curious. I just emailed the admissions coordinator. EDIT: Also, NEU Counseling PhD is 2/15. -
For those of you going to interviews up north - I have a silly question. It will probably be snowing when I head up, so I'd like to wear boots to travel to the interview site (I'm staying at an Airbnb that's only a few blocks away, so not really worth it to get an Uber). I'd then like to change into my dress heels for the actual interview day. It's not going to be weird if I carry around a plastic bag with my boots in it, right? O___o

Same haha. Geometry and probability killed me. I like Magoosh you can customize your study (e.g. choose from different areas, difficulties, question types), and each question has both a written out explanation and a video explanation (for those who are more audio/visual learners vs. verbal/written).
-
I basically brute forced all of Magoosh's math problems a week before the exam, haha. I didn't study at all for verbal or writing. My scores were 168V / 163Q / 5.5AW. My starting scores were in the mid-150's so I was very happy. The GRE questions felt much easier than Magoosh's, so I had a boost of confidence during the exam which definitely helped with my performance.

Drexel is stressing me out so much right now! The results page shows that they called all their interviewees at this same week last year, so I've been keeping my phone next to me at all times. Top choice program -
What do you plan to do if you don't get accepted this year?

I have a license eligible master's so I'd work with that and also try to volunteer for some more research on the side... and try again next cycle. -

MS/MA in mental health counseling or MSW?
dancedementia replied to blacklab155's topic in Psychology Forum
Feel free to PM me. I started in MSW and switched to MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and can speak broadly to what's going on in those areas. I noticed you were also in CO - one thing to think about is where you want to practice long-term. In some states, social workers have much more power than counselors. -

Much more standard in PhD programs than PsyD programs - and most of mine are PsyD
