Weekends are the worst.

York and UofT acceptances have started going out and my file is still "no decision yet". Gonna stress this entire weekend. It's 1AM and i wanna sleep. *cries

Congrats!! My status currently says "no decision yet".

In most cases, they give the Visa on the spot, so we will see what happens. I go next month! Thank you! I will update here.

@DBear, @DogsArePeopleToo, @TakeruK Thanks for the info. I'll be going to California next month for a conference, so I guess will find out then. Doesn't help that my passport photo clearly identifies me as a Muslim since I'm wearing a hijab in it.

So with this crazy travel ban thing, I was wondering if this directly impacted anyone on here. While I wait to hear back from some American universities, I can't help but think if this will be an issue for me later on. I am a Canadian citizen, so I technically shouldn't, but I was born in Pakistan so if Pakistan gets added to the list....it might be an issue.

Wondering if anyone applied to any Religion PhD programs in Canada? I've only applied at UofT, and nothing yet.

I like to stay out the house running errands and turning my data and wifi off so I can only check my email when I get home later on in the day.

I think advancing in languages and presenting at conferences is a good idea.

They post sound great. Conferences are a great idea. That's basically what I did this past year. Think I was able to knock out 6 conference presentations. Trying to get published is also on my list.

So what are your plan Bs, if let's say, you do not get accepted in any of the programs you applied to? This thought is always at the back of my head, every day. This is my second round of applications. Last year did not go so well. But if I do not get accepted anywhere again, I'm not sure what my plan B is. I mean, I'll apply again for next year, but meanwhile? I'm thinking of doing another MA if I have nothing else to do, but I am not too sure about it. How about you?

I understand your concern. I got into a PhD program last year at a school in California (I am Canadian btw), and I had to turn it down because even with the funding they offered, I was unable to afford it. Tuition, living expenses, plus work restrictions due to being an international student was too much. As for healthcare, I think most schools would offer you a health plan. I say why not apply and see what happens. You may have to do long-distance for a while with your partner, but if you two are up to it, I would apply and give it a chance.

If you think he's going to help you get in, why not? You can always change your supervisor once you're admitted.

I see that some of you have already started receiving admission decisions, but for those of us who are still waiting (in my case, I will find out late Feb to mid-March), what are some ways to distract yourself from the anxiety of checking your inbox 10x a day? What do you do to distract yourself? I've been spending a lot of time on YouTube, but MUST CHECK INBOX. It's been so stressful that it's making me physically sick! Please share your ideas

Applied to Boston University, UC Davis, and University of Toronto. This is my second round of applications, and I really wanna attend BU! I have two profs ready to work with me, but it seems last year they took 1 student focusing on Islam out of 15 students or so. Yikes

@xypathos Totally makes sense. It's sad though seeing Ph.D students living on ramen and having to pick up PT jobs. I've heard stories of some even taking a break from their Ph.D studies because they cannot afford it, so they take a year or two off just working and saving money.....in the end taking longer to finish their Ph.Ds than originally planned.

@drivingthoughts Thanks for that. I am considering another MA in Sociology or Poli Sci. My undergrad is in Poli Sci, and I've been suggested by some profs to continue in that field. So if it's a no from Claremont, or funding is horrible, I probably will pursue another MA.

Waiting for a decision. POI keeps saying she's sure it will be good news. So far I'm 0a/0w/5r. Having trouble finding faculty interested or its my GRE scores that's putting me down.
