Thanks @av2010, you're a life saver! After posting this, I asked the one person I know getting a phd in Communication and he said interviews aren't a thing. But still, he's almost done with his dissertation and has forgotten a lot about the application process/ things may have changed.... It's only one person's experience.. Basically I'm anxious lol. So many posts on this forum about interviews, it made me nervous.

I think I'd ask how often students get to go to conferences (ie, does the program offer enough travel funding for or will you have to fight tooth and nail for this kind of thing) Good luck!

@av2010 Oh wow, I wish I had those resources! That being said, I do feel like ignorance is bliss, having finished this process in a vacuum made it easier for me in some sense because I had less factors to consider. Hopefully my hopes of getting accepted won't be completely off base. @Nika Teneo I'll see if I can find the professors - the schools I saw these people at ended up on my "no" list

@phdthoughts That's exactly how I ended up quitting my job and starting down this path - I imagined where I'd be at 50 and even the best case scenario had me thinking 'meh' at best. I didn't want to live out a 'meh' life. Though I don't regret having worked and done random things, I do feel like my remaining career won't be long enough to really fully flesh out what I want to study and teach! Hopefully this application cycle will be successful and there won't be anymore delays!

@Yanaka Fulbright offers different fellowships for different countries, and for Korea, it's available to Korean citizens studying anything useful/ preferably related to the U.S. But yeah, regardless of the program, I don't think they offer any money to American citizens looking to study in the U.S. One of my friends who has dual U.S./ Korean citizenship wasn't able to apply because she wanted to pursue her studies in the U.S. I always thought Fulbright was for super smart people and really fancy schmancy so didn't even consider it but my thesis advisor insisted I give it a shot. She was apologetic when I didn't get it and actually upset at the committee hehehe. It was helpful though, since I had to write a SOP and get together all my transcripts and stuff in June - so it really did save me time in November.
