I'm really nervous about the dinner tomorrow with my POI and 2 grad students... This isn't in the interview itinerary but she invited me anyway. Should I take this as a more social environment or still an opportunity for questions? I will be meeting her and her lab the next day and the other grad students..

I think it depends on the POI. I was emailed mid-Jan and my interview is Feb 1.

I wouldn't presume rejection yet! There are people who have been accepted without being invited to the interview day .

I'm in a similar situation with meeting the program coordinator, grad students, and the professor. What I've come to realize is that most of the time when meeting with graduate students, you are interviewing them. Take the opportunity to ask them questions about the program, the school, etc. If you're meeting the 3 professors separately, there's a great chance you will be discussing similar points with each one. You got this! I hope you feel better in time for the interviews!

I have an in person interview at McGill on the 1st.

You should be 1st author for PURE because it's your thesis... It counts as a poster presentation because PURE is an adjudicated conference. It really does seem like you're moving in the right direction. I have no publications so far and I've been invited for 2 interviews. I, unfortunately, did not get the opportunity to do PURE because of the administrative strike my year, but I have 2 conference presentations. Everyone has a different story and different credentials. Keep volunteering in research and maybe try to get a paid position. Be productive with the gap year!

Ah a fellow Carleton grad Welcome! It seems like you're on the right track. I would definitely check out the OHRI website for job/volunteer opportunities. Another option is the Royal Mental Health Centre. Are you currently doing your thesis? You can definitely add PURE to your CV.

I just received the itinerary for one of my interview days.. It seems as though I'm meeting graduate students from different labs for a lunch. Should I be familiar with their research as well? Or is this just an opportunity to ask them questions?

I accidentally opened a spam e-mail with the subject "CONGRATS.... you've won" and now they're coming in every 10 minutes. So every 10 minutes I think I'm being invited for an interview or something. ?

I remember getting that jolt when I applied to Concordia last year haha. They sent the open house invite around the same time.
