  1. Thank you so much for these.
  2. I think the March acceptances were for the cognitive psych department. The psych & social behavior department seems to have sent out acceptances in early February of last year. The rejections might be sent out later. Best of luck to all those waiting.
  3. I thought we would get decisions from UC, Irvine today given last year's time line.
  4. I'm feeling like I will likely be reapplying to PhD programs next year. I'm more hopeful for next round since I learned so much this time. Stay hopeful though... we only need to be admitted to one program.
  5. Thank you for the kind and encouraging words.
  6. Found out that my POI from UCSC will not be taking any students this year. However, they encouraged me to stay in touch and to consider reapplying next year.
  7. Haven't heard anything either. I hope we hear back soon, the wait is unbearable.
  8. Same. Hopefully we get decisions soon.
  9. I'm sorry. Hopefully, good news comes along soon.
  10. One of my labmates was invited to interview and flown out late last month. It was just a meeting with their POI, not like a whole interview weekend. However, their research interest area is social psychology related.
  11. The longer we wait and the more I think about my interviews, the more "mistakes" I remember making.
  12. I was discouraged from applying to graduate programs at my undergraduate institution (it's a R1 institution). The same professors I was conducting research with as an undergraduate, encouraged me to apply elsewhere in order to challenge myself and to create new social/academic connections. If one did apply, there was an unwritten rule against applying to have one of your LOR writers be your primary graduate advisor.
  13. My first time applying to PhD programs directly from undergrad and I've managed to interview at 3 programs. But I was also rejected from 2 programs without even interviewing. I totally bombed my first interview. However, I feel like I did progressively better with each subsequent interview. I just hope that I get good news from at least one program soon. I do not want to go through this process again, but if I must I think I'll be better prepared.

That's awesome! I don't do that well with interviews either, but it does get better with subsequent ones like you said (and more interviews the better!). Best of luck! Your admission chances are substantially higher now.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Now if the decisions would just come sooner rather than later.

  14. After my horrible interview I had a drink with my friends and cried as I told them about my interview. The next morning I felt better. Good luck!
  15. At this point there's nothing else to do but wait and hope for good news. Hopefully decisions come sooner rather than later. Good luck to everyone.
  16. Definitely my least favorite of all arrange face-to-face faculty interactions. Unfortunately, the grad student mentioned these carry more weight on the decision process.
  17. At least we finally know who we'll be interviewing with and whether we'll have morning or afternoon interviews.
  18. Just received my first official rejection (UCLA). I guess since I knew it was coming, I hadn't been invited to interview, it didn't sting as much as I had expected. Still I'm a bit disappointed.
  19. School: UCLAArea/Degree: Social Psychology Rationalization: Too many qualified candidates. Probably also lack of direct relevant research experience. All my research experience is in unrelated areas.Comment: Expected since I was not invited to interview, but it's still disappointing. Coping tactics: Focusing on preparing for upcoming interviews and research projects.
  20. You're right determination and hard work will pay off, but I was hoping not to have to go through this process again. Although, I already see ways to improve myself and my application for next year in the event I'm not offered admission this year.
  21. Good luck to all of you with interviews and congratulations to those already accepted!!! As for myself, another week with and still no news from 4/5 graduate programs I applied to, but at least you've all provided a lot of questions I could use to prepare myself in the event I do eventually get an interview, thank you.
  22. @AspiringScholar17 Considering that the other person received the invite yesterday and I only got mine this morning, they are probably haven't sent them out all at once. More invites may be getting sent out over the next few days. Perhaps I only got my invite today because aI had pestered them yesterday when I emailed them to inquire/clarify the interview information on the website.
  23. @AspiringScholar17 I noticed the new thread this morning. I just received an email from UCI's Criminology graduate coordinator this morning inviting me to the interview event. It seems like it was a general (not personalized) email. Hopefully, you also received one and I'll be meeting you in person soon.
  24. Congratulations on the interview invitation! I'm not sure the answer to your questions but it is very exciting to have such an opportunity.
