  1. Congrats @jmk!! That is so exciting! You're going to grad school no matter what!! (where in CA are you?) I am finishing up my last application today. I am so completely bummed that after CSDCAS calculated my cumulative GPA, it won't be even looked at. I thought the undergrad cumulative GPA was above 3.0 (which it is by my transcripts), but they calculated otherwise (a freaking 2.97!!!). I'm holding out hope for those schools that look at last 60 unit GPA and/or CD GPA the most! For those schools, I might have a chance (3.9 last 60 GPA and 4.0 CD). I WANT TO HIT THINGS!!
  2. I am having the same problem with Neuroanatomy for CD. I am an undergrad in CD, and my school doesn't have a specific neuro class for undergrad, but it is incorporated into my Speech Science and Hearing Science classes. Not sure if that'll count at schools. I am SO over wondering if I meet the requirements for schools.
  3. @Crimson Wife Thank you for that information. I will have to start thinking about this more in May then. Let's see, Hopes: I think most of us have the same hope, acceptance into an SLP masters program. I definitely share this hope. Dream: I really would like to move my family to Oregon or Washington for grad school. Living is so expensive here in California. I go back and forth between which school I'd prefer. I'd like to work with children, and do some research on music as it affects auditory processing and language impairments. I don't know if many schools are doing research on that (except Northwestern which is out of my range of acceptable debt as a mother of two children), so I didn't really base my applications on it. It's still my dream. I also want decent public schools for my girls to attend, and some job opportunity for my husband... Guess: I think my undergrad school might accept me, but who knows? Maybe a school in WA?
  4. Are you getting AV certified before your masters? I thought that was only available after the masters in SLP or Dr in Aud. I'm very interested in AV Therapy too.
  5. In the Info/FAQ it says it somewhere, but for an easier find than all the tiny info links on CSDCAS I usually just google it: CSDCAS color code, and it's the first thing that shows up.
  6. After researching schools a little bit more, there are a couple on CSDCAS that I'd like to apply to. One of my letter of recommendation writers has already filled her recommendation out, and the other two I am still waiting on. Will these letter of recommendations be seen by the additional schools? Do I need to inform the professors that have recommended me? Or is it just okay the way it is, I can add the programs, and all will see the letter of rec? It's so last minute (deadline of 1/15), I don't want my recommenders to think I'm asking more work of them. Does anyone have any experience with this? THANKS!!
  7. Thank you for your input. Do you happen to know of any schools in particular that are not west coast that look at last 60 units? Most of the schools I had selected were because on their admissions statements, or through emails, they claim to look at last 60 units or department GPA the most. I would love some ideas on where else I should bother applying to. Again, thanks for your input.
  8. Thank you very much for your kind words. I think CSDCAS is made to stress grad applicants out. I guess I just have to wait and see. (pulls hair out)
  9. I am an old(er) student too (33), but not post-bac. I messed up for years with school when I was young and didn't know what I wanted to do. What I wanted at 20 was VERY different than what I want now. It's good to hear of other old(er) students in the field!!
  10. Hello, I am a little (okay, a lot) confused by CSDCAS and GPA calculations. Is there no "last 60 units" type of calculation, or department specific calculations? Is it just an overall? Many of the schools I am looking at supposedly look at last 60 units, and I chose them for that purpose, but I'm unsure of if this is real or how it works. My department GPA is a 4.0 (I'll be getting my bachelors in CDS in the spring), and last 60 units is about a 3.9 or higher. However, my cumulative is barely a 3.03 (I was a terrible student for many years in other majors when I was younger). I'm worried that schools using CSDCAS won't really look at last 60, and just use CSDCAS's odd GPA calculations. Anyone have any clue how that works? I feel like CSDCAS is making life incredibly difficult right now. Thanks folks!!
  11. That's great to know!! It's my #1 school due to it's location and price. I'm currently writing out my SOP. Is there any faculty that really stands out? Also, if you don't mind, what were your stats for when you got accepted? I forgot that one wasn't due unto 2/1. All my other schools are 1/15, and I'm panicking a little.
  12. Thanks again! Is this something that can wait until after the spring semester? Is there an option in the summer? I will be taking a good 12-13 units this spring before graduation, and I don't really want to take the class before then. But if spring the only option then I would rather get it done of course.
  13. Thanks! Does Speech Science/Hearing Science cover this? I think my classes covered neuromuscular structures and functions. It's just listed as separate for several programs. It's all so confusing!
  14. Oh, I also was a preschool and toddler teacher for years before I went into this major. So, my experience is related, but not directly with children that have special needs (although some of those children...).
  15. Hello fellow SLP grad school hopefuls, Like most of you, I am frantically applying to grad schools for the Fall 2017 year. I will be graduating with my Bachelors in Communication Disorders in spring, and am panicking a little. I have very good and very bad grades, depending on how you look at it. I'm now going to do the stat check to see if there are any other schools I should be looking at (think green, trees, pretty, not so expensive but cute place for a family). Are there ones with a February deadline? That would be so cool as all of my schools are 1/15 deadline and I'm scared I won't make it! I am also a little worried because a few of the programs I want to apply to have neuroanatomy as a prerequisite to grad school and my university does not have that class as an undergrad. Is there anything I can do about that? Stats: Cumulative GPA (I was a terrible, terrible student for years as another major many moons ago): 3.03 Last 60 Units GPA (hoping they really look at this and not the GPA above): about 3.91-ish CD Units GPA (Yay!): 4.0 VR: 154 QR (Boo!): 148 AW: 4.0 I know my GRE isn't great, but a 300 isn't the worst either. If I don't get accepted anywhere, then maybe I'll take the GRE again for next year's cycle? But really, I just want to be accepted into a grad program. As of now, I'm applying to Portland State U, University of Oregon, Pacific University, Western Washington U, Eastern Washington U, Washington State U, CSU Northridge, University of Redlands. Where else should I be looking? Or should I be looking at these places at all? Thanks!!!
