  1. I heard that you need to prepare your application to a doctoral program as soon as you consider applying (and that's even if you're not even a master's student yet). Is that true in your opinion?
  2. Do we get to see our scores for SSHRC?
  3. I finished designing my first poster ever. For the handout though, is three pages two long? (1 page context, 1 page references, 1 page smaller version of my poster).
  4. We're doing a scoping review, which is kinda of like a review paper for this project if I understood well the purpose of this type of review.
  5. I am presenting at a conference at the end of this month and am preparing a paper for a student contest and both will be related to my master's thesis topic. The research project that I am working on as a RA was out of my supervisor's initiative. It wasn't my idea. She wanted to offer me a paid research internship for this summer and until the end of my master's studies and I have accepted the offer. It's just unfortunate that it isn't closely related to my master's topic, but I am willing to learn something new so it's fine on my side.
  6. Try with your McGill email address?
  7. I thought that if you would get funding at one university, you'd be garanteed to be accepted in that university logically. That's what I've always heard but I might be wrong. I know that when you apply to sshrc you have to list all the universities for which you attend to apply (maximum of 4). I don't know if it's possible to transfer at that point, you would need to speak with them...
  8. I am the first in my family (immediate family I must precise) to pursue graduate school but university as well. I am the first to get a university diploma, both of my parents do not have university degrees. But they are still supportive of what I do and what I want to accomplish.
  9. Self Control (for mac) is pretty helpful to me.
  10. Thanks to both of you for your answers. Things are a little bit clearer now, my supervisor clarified the process for me and the research coordinator during the meeting we had this morning. And we're going to have meetings all throughout the summer. Hopefully I'll do better! I've never done this before so that's why I was a little insecure at first.
  11. - Public speaker (I am already doing it) - Social Work professor - Journalist on social issues - Social Worker
  12. Hello, I know that's been asked before in other sections of this forum, but I wanted to have the perspective of students in my field. I am starting a Thesis/Research based MSW next Fall. I was wondering : What is an acceptable amount of work/extracurricular when you're doing the program full-time? I've always been very involved in my community all throughout my studies up until now and I was wondering that could still be possible during graduate school. What does your schedule look like? Thank you,
  13. I am 24. I finished my undergrad last week. However, I live in Quebec and have done a professional pre-university program prior to my bachelor's degree. It was in the same field and I did have work opportunities at the same time. I am starting my masters' next fall.
  14. I am probably going to pay the price for this in the long run but I mostly socialize with people in my program. It's paradoxal how I know a lot of people but prefer spending my time alone and focus on my studies. I'm definetly not an example of balance here.
  15. I heard that Dropbox isn't the best option to save a thesis and data. Any thoughts on that? What would be an alternative?
  16. Hello, My sister is heading off to France to study for a full semester. She has everything prepared to go there, but any of you have any advice, thoughts, recommendations that I could give to her before she leaves? My parents are somewhat concerned because of the political/social climate there... (and I have to admit that I am a bit too.)
  17. This must be so frustrating. I don't know what else to say. Sounds like real micro-agressions to me. EDIT : Oh, did not realize this was an older thread.
  18. I am entering my master of social work next fall.
  19. the best apps for productivity that I've used - SelfControl (for mac only.)
  20. Congrats on everyone who got funded! I totally understand the feeling, I so did not think I could make it too. But I did! And I'm happy that you guys did too.
  21. Teacher has not sent us (my entire class) our final grades and we are graduating. Some of the assignments for which we did not get a grade for goes up to February. This is so annoying.
  22. I know maybe this is obvious, sorry if you already thought about it, but I'd look into the scholarships offered (internal or external to your university). Especially if you have good grades and were involved in your community.
  23. I am still feeling anxious over this project. I am surprised that no one replied to this thread.
