What I did that really helped me was to start all the applications in one day. Not the important stuff but registering the accounts and typing in my name, address, etc. That way I could also see which ones needed me to submit everything before letter writers could upload their LORs or if links could be sent right away. I also wanted to make sure I gave my recommenders as much time as possible to upload so that they didn't feel rushed at the 11th hour. This also gave me much needed troubleshooting time as 1 letter was not going through for a specific school. My recommender was just not getting the link for some reason. Luckily, we were able to solve the issue before the deadline.
Good luck to everyone! And I know the process of stressful, but try to leave some wiggle room for emergencies!

To add to the support I completely agree with everyone! So much about grad school is not about the letter grades you received. For my field they really are looking for passionate, creative students. Many PIs have told me that it's easy to teach students any type of research methods, what's not as easy is to teach them to be curious~ I think you will do great!

I would caution you from comparing yourself to others on this site....people on here tend to be extreme overachievers haha. I can guarantee people would laugh at my credentials, but I am applying anyway because I know I have a lot of strengths and want to give myself the chance. I am not very familiar with Canadian schools, but I have noticed that many people on grad cafe apply to very prestigious schools that get 300+ apps and only take like 5 people . So, if you are applying to that kind of school, then yes...I think everyone is worried and doubts their application!! However, I think you have a great gpa and outstanding GRE scores.  Having a solid year as an RA will def work in your favor...just go easy on yourself , all you can do is give it your best shot.

As a successful applicant with worse stats than @CuringNihilism who got into a funded & APA-accredited doctoral Clinical Psychology program, I second @liznlex's post.

I would say the third option is probably your best bet! I think the first one may be a little on the shorter side, and they may find it harder to gauge your writing capabilities in a group paper.
The second one could potentially work too, but I have heard people say mixed things about using material from other disciplines.
The third one also shows that you are taking initiative to actually explore your interests too instead of just stating that they are your interests, so I would go with that one.

Wow, I feel like you people are way ahead of me. I have a draft of my personal statement now. I'm going to have my honors advisor read it on Wednesday. I need to figure out how to get my GRE scores and transcripts sent everywhere. That's my next step. And also actually plugging my recommenders into my applications.
Oh, and I have a Skype interview on Friday with a potential POI so I'm preparing for that.

Everyone I wanted to write recommendations has agreed to do so, I've pretty much finalized my list of schools (would like to find one more masters program to apply to...just haven't found the one yet ), and I've completed the general applications for two schools and have started giving some thought to how I want to structure my statement of purpose. A lot to do in the next few months !

Jung&Psyched reacted to t_ruth in When should I contact professors I'm interested in working with?
I've already had students contact me. The early bird gets the worm, you know? I can get invested in a student if we start talking early on...
Yes, I know there are dangers to emailing faculty over the summer, but I think most would be fine with an email that said something along the lines of: I know it is summer and you may not be answering emails regularly, but I am very excited about your program and wanted to reach out sooner rather than later. If I don't hear from you, I'll follow up in the fall.

The psych gre is a joke. Every professor I have talked to told me it doesn't matter much at all and that most programs don't consider its content as very representative of your knowledge in psychology. I did poorly on it and got into more than one program. My general gre scores were pretty good though.

Jung&Psyched got a reaction from ResilientDreams in Why do MA's in Mental Health Counseling even exist? Is it just a scam to make people think they're becoming psychologists?
Agreed (with Hk328), I work for a mental health agency and all of our clinicians are masters level.  If everyone had to have a doctorate to provide therapy,  there would be even poorer access to mental health care than there currently is. Sadly it's true that they do not get paid much, but they do the work because they are passionate and believe that they can effect positive change through there careers. It's not a scam , simply  a different career that focuses on direct clinical practice rather than research or teaching.

I don't know anything about the specific programs, but I would take into account cost of living for the area. Living in Muncie is going to be way less expensive than living in DC or Chicago, so that would be a big factor to consider for me !

How many schools does one usually apply for? Most people advise me more the merrier, but application fees are too expensive when combined together.

I used Magoosh and I actually found it incredibly interactive. Whenever I had to message them they replied within 24 hours addressing my concerns and more. Plus all 1000+ of they practice questions had video explanations and references to where the information was taught in their video libraries. It raised my score 12 points when I took it Fall 2016

I've heard great things about Magoosh and am planning to buy it in the next couple of weeks. They supposedly guarantee a five point improvement or your money back (I'm really hoping all five of those points end up on my quantitative score haha). There is also a GRE prep online course offered through ed2go, I haven't heard anything about it, but its only $109 so I'm going to give it a try ! I looked at the Kaplan courses but just couldn't justify the cost....
