  1. I agree unfortunately. Feels like 300 is the polite official cutoff the schools mention, but the competitive programs tend to cut closer around the 60-70th percentile. I imagine with the more competitive programs it might even be 75-80th percentile.
  2. Mind sharing the initials of your POI and if you know if social psych is done inviting for interviews? ?
  3. https://socialpsych.unc.edu/visiting-day/ Looks like Feb 1st on the website for social psych!
  4. So quick update, it wasn't an interview. The call was to invite me for their interview weekend 13-14th Jan. Super nice that they wanna do it over the phone. Excited for this!
  5. I just got an e-mail from UC Irvine. They were tryinna contact me but couldn't reach me. I guess cos I'm an international student the call did not work out. Hoping its an informal interview!
  6. Usually if you manage to get your application submitted and pay, you should be fine.
  7. I'm personally not applying to NYU but any idea what this is about? "We are suspending applications for Fall 2019 admission while the faculty review the curriculum. We will begin accepting applications for Fall 2020 in early September 2019." - NYU website
  8. How are my fellow socialites doing? I know it's been tough seeing other departments dole out interviews. Hope you guys have been keeping busy!
  9. That's nice! No one wanted to hire me because I was honest enough to tell them I was planning on leaving for grad school come august :(
  10. Worries: This is my third cycle applying. It's been draining every single time. I am an international student and the acceptances for international students seem really low over the past 2 years. I did graduate from an American university, but with only a magna cum laude. There seem to be so many applying with much higher gpa than mine. Though my verbal and quant scores on the gres were pretty solid, my written score was only a 4.0. In short, I'm afraid a meh gpa, and a shitty 4.0 on written, coupled with my international student status will hurt me real bad. I have about 4yrs of research experience but only a few posters, presentations and publications to show for it. I am already 30 this year and feel like the rest of my life has been put on hold while I have focused on this. Being a first-generation college grad, my family understand the value of higher education, but don't quite get the point of pursuing a PhD instead of settling for an undergrad degree. I could really do with a win. Excitement: There is little I can think of that would be as exciting as doing research in topics I find interesting. I contacted a number of POIs and some seemed interested in working with me. Regardless of how this plays out, I'm sure I'll eventually find myself doing research in topics that excite me so I'll just hold on to that hahaha
  11. I have compiled some resources I found with regard to datelines. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS TO FEED YOUR ANXIETY https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hJFI7od93wXNHfLiUl0pv4lPUsueRmVg_6N85xgFQd8/edit#gid=0 https://imgur.com/a/CGVa9 https://fretpwner.shinyapps.io/GradCafeStatistics/ I think generally the spike comes around slightly after christmas
  12. Here are some resources guys https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hJFI7od93wXNHfLiUl0pv4lPUsueRmVg_6N85xgFQd8/edit#gid=0 https://imgur.com/a/CGVa9 https://fretpwner.shinyapps.io/GradCafeStatistics/ I think generally the spike comes around slightly after christmas and about a week or 2 after the new year for social . So hang in there
  13. I wouldn't consider that independent research. More of going through literature, coming up with research question, designing an experiment, data collection, analyzing data and putting it out in a meaningful manner (report/abstract/presentation/poster etc). that would be independent research
  14. Theyre trying to break our spirits. Dont. Let. Them. Win... In retaliation i suggest imbibing copious amounts of spirits
  15. Please bug the school/dept to make sure theyve received everything they need. Especially GRE scores. Usually if you give them a screenshot showing how your name is spelt on ets, your registration number etc + that bit showing when you sent the scores to which school and what code, they should be able to find it. This is important. Not trying to be a fear monger but some schools will toss applications if anything is missing when they convene for reviewing applications.
  16. By the way guys, a heads up; some of the schools/depts don't really update their portal here on out. You might just receive emails instead when they wanna contact you for interviews or missing items. Often they don't update when theyve moved into review phase eihter. So don't worry too much. It's honestly still too early in the game for us social people. I'd reckon itll be closer to xmas and more likely the new yr before we hear about interviews
  17. I emailed stanford and they say that theyre are caught in a backlog of admin work that'll prob take 8weeks. They'll use unofficial scores and transcripts for review and we will not be penalized.
  18. Social tends to be the last. Seems to be clinical, developmental, cognitive then social hahaha I might be wrong though. On a related note, toronto, texas, northeastern and DU have begun the review process. Got an email from DU and NEU not the other 2
  19. Don't be afraid to email them about it! (politely of course) there are loads of applications and things can get lost in the pile
