  2. Congratulations!
  3. My first interview is today. I wish I hadn't scheduled it for the afternoon; now I'll have to wait six more hours for it.

  4. @GreenEyedTrombonist I got laid. Didn't help the feeling of existential dread.
  5. I'm so sorry. There's more schools and better yet time for a new backup.
  6. Somewhere in New York Nancy Fraser started smiling...
  7. You're welcome, hopefully it helps. I'm kinda shooting in the dark here.
  8. Here my text from the last email I sent: "Dear Dr. ..., I am a current prospective student for graduate study at Northwestern in Communication Sciences, and am committed to exploring gender and sexuality as a field of study, as it encompasses such a wide range of schools of thought, and intersectional dimensions in academia and in research. I would be interested in setting up a meeting with you in order to discuss research opportunities and graduate study. I am very passionate about exploring aspects of communication sciences in a wide range of topics, including the subject of my most recent research in sexual education rhetoric. I would be honored to speak with you regarding the program and to familiarize myself with the department. Thank you and well wishes for your new year!" And that's about it.
  9. Can we talk about how ridiculously expensive this whole process is? $205+ for GRE, $300+ for application fees, $50+ for travel expenses... and more... the process is so limiting for people with low income or those of us living independently.
  10. So last night I emailed my POI for the PhD Rhetoric track (Gender and Sexuality Cluster) requesting an interview and this morning she got back to me. We set up an unofficial interview for next Wednesday, so I'm absolutely over the moon. I can't believe she got back to me so soon.

  13. I have a montra "You can only panic for 20 minutes" which is a misconception I learned as a teenager about panic attacks, but it seems to help remind me that it'll eventually pass. I think I need a better coping mechanism for dealing with this application season.
  14. I'm so sorry. Coping with early applications has been the biggest stressor over conferences, TAing, and IRB.
  15. @Dan_Xu Congrats! You'll do great!
  16. I hope some positive things come your way! I'm glad I'm not alone in loving Friday rainy days!
  17. @GreenEyedTrombonist Date and from what airport? I'll help you look
  18. @JF222 Welcome! I feel those jitters, too. I had a nightmare last night that emails from my applications were filtered out from my inbox, so I think we're all a little high strung. Good luck wishes!
  19. @GreenEyedTrombonist So above all else get a really warm coat that you think is cute, since most of the time you'll be wearing that from November to March. In the Midwest, the Spring and Fall are usually in the 30s-60s but we can get snow storms even until May sometimes so never put your warm coat away. In the winter, I usually have a pair of thick-healed boots, and lots of sweaters and blanket scarves. Shawls are really in fashion right now and I usually wear one over all my clothes on the days it stays below zero. Also if you're into wearing dresses I recommend thick stockings/leggings and/or long-johns to go under dress pants if it's cold.
  20. @Dan_Xu Thanks! Good Luck! From my experience in Midwestern communications programs, there's a lot of procrastination in terms of actions, so there's still time.
  21. @GreenEyedTrombonistThanks! I'm so jealous of that warm weather. This is the warmest it's been in Madison since the new year, but the av. so far has been about zero. But I'm pretty used to it.
  22. @Dan_Xu yeah! I have the interview next Wednesday, so fingers crossed til then. I do love the city though.
