I still have a few more weeks and I am anxiously waiting to be told if I will be funded at one of my top choices! :(

You too! Keep us informed of hopeful good news! :)

  4. Crossing fingers this week for Northwestern decisions....
  5. split log
  6. I need to know about funding like...last week... tired of waiting
  7. Just found an article about a Columbia research project in the upcoming New Yorker issue which helps support a rebuttal for my ethics proposal and gives me another source.
  8. @eighty8keys Thank you for sharing! I totally agree with you. When I found out about my rejection, my mom said "I didn't know it was that hard to get into grad school" (she went back for her masters after having ten plus years professional experience in nursing already) and that she was so sad for me, which made me feel so defensive, like of course it's difficult. When people just say, "well onto the next one" or "there's better programs out there" it's so much more productive. Sinking to my level of sadness only makes me feel justified in feeling rejected.
  9. @Matt Minich Congrats! @whitmanifesto I can confirm I scraped 4 inches off my car this morning. Ugh another weekend of waiting for Northwestern.

  11. @timetobegin Congrats!
  12. @Carly Rae Jepsen I just got done with gastro, and it was an infection. for now drink clear liquids, then a bland diet.

  14. @SpelGrad When did you hear from Northwestern and is it for the MA program or the PhD?
  15. @GreenEyedTrombonist I can't even imagine the thought of having to pay for a wedding at this point. I bought a car this spring after my parents' old car died, and boy has it been a strain on my expenses. A couple hundred extra dollars a month on top of rent and gas does not do well for my bank account. I won't start paying off my loans for awhile, but I have increasing anxiety about it.
  16. I got an email with the subject line being "Accept..." in the preview. It was just spam from another university saying "Accepting Applications Now!" Goddamn clickbait.
  17. @GreenEyedTrombonist @whitmanifesto Funding is the deal breaker for me. I can't afford to go to any program if it doesn't include a stipend or tuition deferment or anything at all. Plus housing near the programs I applied to in the Midwest are notoriously expensive (cough cough Madison. My rent there now is astronomical for what I get). Here's hoping!

  19. @Oklash I know how you're feeling. Like there is no path for you if you don't end up in academia. But who knows what will happen, a job could come around that is perfect for you, even if it isn't in research. But you've put in the work and that in itself is something to be proud of. You've accomplished so much, and whatever happens you can be sure you did everything you could. That doesn't mean you're a failure, and it definitely doesn't mean you'll never amount to anything. You already know you're capable of doing something incredibly difficult (getting through this hellhole process) and that drive and energy could help lead you to a path you can't even imagine right now. I've felt this way, many many times. The best thing you can do while you wait is to talk to someone (either in person or on here) to help you understand your worth, and get through these tough times. Results for this cycle aren't even close to done, so there is always a chance. Keep your spirits up, and good luck.
  20. Haha. Wow. That is inefficient.
  21. @Matt Minich That's awesome! Good Luck!
  22. When I stop procrastinating and finally submit, I'll probably end up in the Gender Studies, Health, or Education division.
