How to respond to a rejection letter (from https://www.socialpsychology.org/reject.htm)

    Graduate Admissions Committee
    Department of Psychology
    Big Deal University
    Collegeville, USA
    Dear Committee Members:
Thanks for your letter of March 30. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your rejection at this time.
This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of schools, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.
Despite your outstanding record and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my current career needs. Consequently, I will begin taking classes as a graduate student in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.
Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.
    Sincerely Yours,
    [Name Withheld]

I can’t help but reference the Yale drama from a couple of days ago.....
This response strongly sounds like “THEY ARE MY OFFERS [!!!!!!]” lmao ?
I personally (and basically every expert I work with in the field?) think it’s absolutely inappropriate and inconsiderate to hold on to more than 2 offers at any given time. It’s a jerk move, but you do you, boo!

If the person who posted on the results page about VCU sees this and could DM me the POI that would be awesome! And congrats!

This is really reassuring thank you! The lab I'm a coordinator/manager for is dissolving due to the PI leaving, so hopefully I can find another lab in my undergrad insit. to take me in during the summer.

I was lucky enough to get an RA position at my undergrad institution so I didn't have any down time between graduation and starting my full-time position. It definitely felt weird to not having anything to do school-wise outside of the hours of 9-5, but it's a good weird Find whatever job gives you the best balance of boosting your CV and giving you the quality of life (financially and enjoyment-wise) that you want for this year and get started! Then find a hobby until application season restarts. I tried knitting - it wasn't successful.

It sounds like you already know what you need to do! You're clearly very close since you've gotten great feedback from the people you've applied to. Beyond boosting the GRE, it seems to me like a year or two more of research experience will put you in a great spot! I applied last year as a senior in undergrad and got rejected everywhere, but one more year of working as an RA and I have been getting much better feedback this year. I wouldn't worry too much about "clinical experience", as long as you can illustrate that you can communicate effectively with human beings, you should be fine

When you go to an interview, hear your POI talk about their research, and you just know that the match with your interests is PERFECT!

My conspiracy theory is that whoever really did get accepted into TM's lab has an anonymous hater who is trying to ruin their life by pretending to be them lol

So I did get into the program! The admissions office made a typo in my email address. They actually sent the formal offer LAST FRIDAY and cc’d my professor on it and I only found out to day when the director of the program forwarded it to my school account wondering if I’d gotten it! Woohoo!

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but these numbers don’t necessarily mean the people come from the waitlist correct? One of the programs I interviewed at told me they aim for a cohort of 8 and always offer to 10 immediately, assuming a couple people will decline. Their cohort has fluctuated between 6-10 depending on how many people accept the offer, but they never pull from the waitlist unless they go under 6. I assume a lot of programs use a similar system?

Regarding the Yale post...if you have 3+ offers it is important to narrow those down! It is etiquette to not hold on to more than two offers at once.

100% agree! I was once at an overview where someone was literally reading off Mitch Prinstein's list of questions in order word for word - don't do that

Mostly they present you an overview of the program and the department's assets. Ask questions if you're genuinely curious about something, though avoid negativity; they'll appreciate a good questions and would be probably annoyed by poor ones asked just for the sake of asking.

I think it depends...there are some areas of the country where the cost of living is just absurd and even a really reputable program might not be able to provide a comfortable stipend.
