I'm with you. Especially to have time to visit before April 15th if needed. My March work schedule is practically full so if I need to take some days off to visit somewhere, I need to know now! Also cause my brain can't handle this stress anymore.

Any updates from GWU Health Behavior? I’m on my phone traveling so scrolling through the results dear isn’t quite possible right now. Also, I had my interview with Colorado School of Public Health if anyone else applied or had questions. They expect to let people know late February early March at the latest.

I know. I was really beginning to resent that poor smiling student who thought she was just posing for promotional pictures and they put her on the WORST PAGE EVER. Poor lady.

Was just denied from John Hopkins Health Behavior and Society. No email yet, just in the portal. At least I know.

Wow. Thank you so much for this information. I will likely be attending the Chicago campus and this obviously would be a big concern. I knew Illinois' government really struggles to pass budgets, etc. but I was not aware of how much it was affecting the schools. Thank you!

Oh my gosh, this one was my favorite but it was so far back I couldn't find it again. I've been quoting it all week! Every time anyone asks me a question I just go "It's fine. I'm fine. Everything's fine." And then just give them the crazy eyes or pretend to start crying. It's been great. -

Hello all! I have been accepted to UIC for the PhD in Community Health Services and likely will be attending. Has anyone else been accepting, thinking of attending, or is currently attending? I am going to visit this weekend and speak with people but thought I would start a strand to get to know people or see what their experiences here have been. Plus when we get down to it, things like what part of town are you going to live in, etc. My background, MS in Counseling Psychology, 5 years of vocational rehabilitation counseling and program coordination as well as three years of sexual assault advocacy. Area of interest and focus will be long-term health impacts of reporting sexual violence and how to create better training and prevention initiatives. Hope to hear from some people!

I had contacted the department regarding if interview requests had gone out when I saw the mass amount of interviews on the survey (around mid January), but they said that department had not started reviewing yet. The report was that they would begin the following week. That was on January 23rd, so my anxiety is rising but here's hoping?

Colorado School of Public Health-Opinions?
emjayco replied to maddie.liggett's topic in Public Health Forum
I was notified of an interview for their DrPH program, and I'll say I will give it full consideration if accepted. I think that the fit and the quality of the education/support/advisor mean so much more than reputation. I know people who have turned down Johns Hopkins (ranked #1) for lesser known or smaller programs simply because it was more appropriate to their needs or desires. Overall, do what you think is best and try not to worry about rankings or opinions - the experience you think you will have there is truly what matters.- 5 replies

I know Johns Hopkins has been sending their interview/acceptances/rejections in spurts and it is different department by department but has anyone heard from the Health Behavior and Society Department? My portal still says Sent for Review and I'm wondering if they sent out interview requests and I just did not make that cut. Once of the few schools I have not heard back from yet so it'd be nice not to have to continuously refresh everything!

No I have not heard from GWU. I was not expecting to hear from them until the end of February, early March as I seem to remember that being the time frame they stated.

Applying with an unrelated Master's degree (career change)
emjayco replied to eggfish's topic in Public Health Forum
I am in a similar boat. I have a MS in Counseling Psychology which was clinically based and have worked direct service vocational rehabilitation since graduation. I agree that the degree and the school makes all the difference. Schools do see the work experience and diversity as an asset, but the rejections I have gotten cited my lack of research/math/statistics as their issue. Regardless, if you argue your case in your statement of purpose and find the program that allows you to use your strengths, if a there is a close research match with a professor I think they are more willing to take that chance. It's really about showing how the work you have been doing relates to public health and has guided you to your decision to make this career change. They tend to worry that when people go from direct service to research that they are not completely aware of what they are getting into. Let them know how deliberate of a choice this is for you and what you have done to prepare yourself. If you don't get in this round, the advice I have gotten is to enroll as a non-degree student in some stats or research courses to show you can keep up with it.- 5 replies

I applied to predominantly PhD programs, but did apply to the DrPH at GWU for Health Behavior (interview went well I think) and the DrPH at the Colorado School of Public Health. Has anyone applied to or heard from that program?

Colorado School of Public Health-Opinions?
emjayco replied to maddie.liggett's topic in Public Health Forum
I have had the same question as I applied to their DrPH program. I don't know a whole lot about it, but it would grant me access to a string a courses extremely specialized to my interests. Still haven't heard anything though. I looked through past responses and last year there were a couple of contradictory responses, one got rejected and said: "Generic, short email. I'm a current MPH student at this school with a 4.0 and hold several leadership positions on campus. I'm not impressed with the program anyway, but this is a HUGE slap in the face. Good luck to other applicants! 2a/1r/0w" but multiple others noted that it was there top choice and they were thrilled to be admitted or devastated not to be. I know it is not a huge help, but I might look through the past years on the survey and see how people's reactions lined up?- 5 replies

I was wondering the exact same thing! I was originally scheduled to interview last Monday and it was canceled and rescheduled for this Friday so I was freaking out when I saw that. I applied to programs that all fell into the Health Behavior/Behavioral and Community Health-esque arenas.
