  1. So I just got word from Pitt that they will not accept the course from the University of Louisville. Bumping this thread in case anyone has any other ideas.
  2. Just got word that Pitt won’t accept the course I was hoping to take because it isn’t a 3-credit class. I was kind of expecting this but I had hope because I couldn’t really tell how many credits it was and other schools seemed to think it was fine. I wouldn’t care except that if I take a class at a community college now I’ll be charged the out-of-state rate because I’ve only lived in PA since August, and I don’t exactly have an extra $1200 lying around. This sucks, lol.
  3. Yep, this is pretty much my plan... take the loans this year and just try to maximize aid for next year. It isn’t but as others have pointed out, it’s my only real option for next year. Do you have any inkling where you’ll be going yet or are you still waiting to hear back from a lot of places?
  4. Yeah, I tried to look into scholarships, but the ones I could find were incredibly specific and I just didn't meet the criteria. I should probably do more digging, though. Is GSSA an assistantship-type thing? I'm not familiar with the acronym but I definitely plan to ask about assistantships/work study opportunities at the info session I'm attending in February. Thanks for the well wishes and for tolerating my whining! I wish you all the best as well.
  5. Thank you so much, this gives me hope!
  6. Thank you, you're very kind. Also liked the FEAR acronym, that made me smile.
  7. Yeah, I was just worried because it's pass/fail and self-paced, etc. A lot of other schools accept it, though.
  8. Has anyone had any luck corresponding with Pitt about the Statistics requirement? I emailed them to ask if this online class someone on here recommended would count like a week and a half ago and thus far, no response. Slightly worried that I emailed the wrong person, but I'm still kind of annoyed that they didn't get back to me to just point me in the right direction.
  9. I think I've decided to commit to Pitt. I've done extensive research on online programs in the last week or so (as in, I literally looked up the tuition per credit hour of every accredited online MSW program in the US), and the cheapest programs (Boise State and UCF) would only be about $7,000 less in tuition with my scholarship. This isn't enough for me to sacrifice the benefits of an on-campus program, such as in-person class discussions, field placement options, and networking opportunities. I also don't think I can handle the stress of applying to more programs - tweaking my essay, asking for more recommendations, etc. I feel exhausted just thinking about it. Idk. Part of me is still so scared of the debt. I understand that I don't have to attend grad school right now if it doesn't feel right, but why wait if I know this is what I want to do? Although I'm also scared that there's no real way I can know that since I have no experience. I'm just scared all around, guys.
  10. You aren't late - I didn't find this website until February of last year and it was still immensely helpful! Welcome!
  11. Gotcha! Yeah, that financial aid package is so important.
  12. Gotcha! I didn’t realize you were Advanced Standing, that obviously makes a huge difference as well. I am also interested in the stipend although I am worried about how competitive it may be. And thank you!
  13. Gotcha. Are you disappointed or is this pretty much what you were expecting? In retrospect, I think my hopes were too high.
  14. Of course! Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.
  15. Gotcha. Yeah, $20,000 in loans for undergrad is not bad at all. I don’t think school name matters that much unless you plan to go on to do a PhD, and $64,000 is a lot to take out in loans for an MSW imho. I think you also have to take things like networking and field placement opportunities into account, though. If you want to work in NYC eventually it might be worth it to go to NYU because of the connections you’d make. Is living with your mom an option after you graduate? Might make sense to do that and take some time to focus on paying down your loans if you really want to go to NYU. Honestly, I’m recommend going to Rutgers because it sounds like the cheapest option and the easiest commute, but at the end of the day, only you know what’s best for you. Another anecdote about school name - I went to NYU for undergrad, and it has never helped me the slightest bit in finding a job. This might be different though if you’re applying for social work jobs with an MSW rather than any job with my random BA. It also might have helped more if I’d stayed in the area after graduation, but who knows. It’s just something to consider.
  16. That’s amazing, @Adelaide9216. You should be really proud.
  17. First of all, congratulations! It’s always good to have choices. How will you be financing the rest? Loans? Do you already have debt from undergrad? Where do you wanna live/work after graduation? How much cheaper will Rutgers and Temple be? Do you qualify for in-state tuition at either? Sorry for all the questions but we need more info in order to help.
  18. Thank you! This is good to know. I looked it up, and Pitt's graduate program in religious is ending due to lack of funding. Very sad.
  19. Yes, that would be my aim if I were to apply to MTS programs. I mean, at least I think so - I'm also just really passionate about the subject, and the fact that they seem to offer pretty decent financial aid was appealing to me.
  20. https://www.pts.edu/ma-theological-studies Does anyone have any thoughts on this program? I just learned that it exists today and got very excited because I already live in Pittsburgh and my partner doesn’t want to move.
