Sooo...I just received an email saying I've been admitted at UT-Austin's PhD program! This is all happening so quickly, yet so slowly!

@Warelin Thanks for all of the info, Truly appreciate all of your work here. I'm skeptical that I'll get in, but good to know that not all hope is lost
@briwriteshere & @reluctanthumanbeing congrats on the acceptances! And thanks to you too for updating on what's what, it really helps to know what's going on.

I also applied to WUSTL (and Rice) and haven't heard from either. My mom asked if she should call to let them know how wonderful I am, but I'll leave that as a last resort.

Ended up falling asleep yesterday before hearing anything, and woke up this morning to the generic, cryptic email not inviting me to interview ? So it goes.
Congrats to all those who got an interview and wishing you the best of luck! Would love to hear about your interview experiences, if you're inclined to share afterwards.

I think we could all use a reminder that unless we have first-hand information on the current adcomm process, pretty much everything should be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't in any way mean this as criticism to those who share info--on the contrary, I am extremely grateful and hope people will continue letting us know of what they have heard/experienced. But unless we actually get one of the adcomm members silly drunk so that they spill the beans, all we're working on is different forms of conjecture, inference, speculation and hearsay (granted that some pieces of information seem more authoritative that others). For those interviewing, prepare well, sleep well, and be awesome! An interview can never really be bad news. At worst, they're considering you. At best, they're considering you. Go be spectacular. For those, (like me), still waiting--I don't really have any good advice. This waiting is horrific. Be strong!

Congrats to all of those that have received an acceptance letter thus far. To those that haven't, most schools don't release decisions until Mid-Feb. There is still plenty of time left.

On a side note: Please review financial offers carefully. In previous years, some programs that used to guarantee 5 years of funding only offered 3 years of funding to certain students citing funding problems as a reason. Please, please review those letters carefully to ensure you know what you are getting yourself into.

Side note 2: Some programs guarantee 5 years of funding based on satisfactory performance. I wouldn't worry about these as much as it's mostly to safeguard against someone accepting an offer and then leaving the program mid-way through. In most cases failing to keep up your grades would result in the end of your funding if one fails to keep them at the required level.

Thanks  I try not to get in the minds of the adcomm or think how/why they're choosing people for interviews, because that will drive me insane!
Thanks, good luck to you too!
