SSHRC just sent an email saying they are releasing results alphabetically based on surname. A-K on April 30th, the rest on May 1st.

Once the dust settles a bit, I might create a waitlist thread, as a few of those have existed over the years.

I was of the understanding that the quota system doesn't matter once you are in the national round. The quota determines how many students can get advanced from the individual university to the national round. Once you are in the national round, your school has no factor in your acceptance.

I had a friend who was wait listed and he then got an e-mail SIX MONTHS after the results came out saying enough people had declined that he now had a full ride for his PhD. It *does* happen but likely is really dependent on how big the school you are at is.

Is there any point in getting my hopes up about this? Do additional funds ever "become available"?

From my vague recollection, the system is separate from the online system we applied to.

In 2021, in early April we got an email saying results would be upload to the extranet soon. A bit after that we got an email with details on how to setup an account on the extranet. At some point after that the results appeared in the extranet, and people here started looking. Later in the month, we got the official email to actually check the extranet for results.

Here is the exact first email text from 2021:
Information regarding your doctoral application will be uploaded toward the end of April to the SSHRC Extranet for applicants.

You will receive a separate system-generated notification with steps on how to activate your extranet account in order to access the information.
If you encounter technical issues in accessing the SSHRC Extranet for Applicants, please contact the Helpdesk at webgrants@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca.
For any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us at fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca.
    Sincerely,

Again this was 2021, not sure how it went down in 2022, as I wasn't advanced to the national round last year.

Just to add another data point in 2021, I found about my rejection on April 28th, but I think that year was slower because of the pandemic.

I got an email from SSHRC in early April that year, saying that our results would be add to the extranet later in the month.

Did the same, the whole process was pretty quick, about two days between me sending the email and getting results. If other people are looking to get this (limited) feedback, I'd recommend shooting off an email and you should hear back soon.

Took a few days from when I emailed for the feedback to arrive. You don't get much, just the two sets of scores from each reviewer.

Just got my feedback scores, looks like one of committee members provided a significantly lower scores than the other and that shot down my chances.
There really should be more transparency in these awards. One person having a bad day, or not understanding your discipline completely alters your ability to fund phd studies.

I think OGS is really department / school dependent. Ryerson gets a pool of money, and then they decide how it is given out.

What's the logic behind not sending out notifications at the same time!?! This wait is killer!

It's not a dumb question at all. It is definitely possible and if that happened to you, you can let your the program you applied to know that if they admit you, you would be coming with your own funding. I heard that most programs limit the number of PhD's they admit due to budget limits and if you come with your own funding which will be the case if you win SSHRC, most programs are happy to admit you. I feel like winning SSHRC, especially CGS-D is much more competitive than getting into a PhD program.  At least that's what I think.
