  1. Anyone willing to chat about TC in general? I’m having a difficult time choosing between some schools and would like any input to help me in the decision making process. ?
  2. You're going to the MGH one too, right? Maybe I'll see you there!
  3. I'm going to second the question above about BU v. TC. I'm between MGH v. TC at the moment and want to go medical. I'm not bilingual, so that focus from TC doesn't apply to me.
  4. Sweet! I'm starting to do my research on student outcomes, etc. and it's overwhelming...
  5. I'm really excited to help out on this forum and r/slpgradschool once I've chosen a program. I've found it very helpful to have dialogue not only with current applicants, but also students at schools where I'm applying. Happy to help!
  6. I completely understand where you're coming from. A lot of clinicians I work with tell me to go to the cheapest school! No matter where you go, you'll come out with a degree. That being said, I can also understand why you want to choose a particular program based on location (which essentially comes down to externships). My internal dialogue is a disaster ("I have been in Boston for 7 years and have great friends here... BU and MGH are excellent schools but that means I have to be in Boston even longer... I want to find a new city/area to explore!") and I'm having a hard time settling down with it lol. I'd love to go back to Boston one day also, but I think I need a change for a few years. Grad school is only 2 years too! So your CFY can be at any area you didn't go to. Do you have a specific focus that you want to do in speech (i.e. medical, voice, research)? I think that would help narrow down your options (i.e. BU is great for fluency and voice, Emerson for school, MGH for medical/voice, Pitt for medical/voice + no on-campus clinic). I'm happy to discuss Boston schools (plus Pitt and GW) with you further! It's a tough decision, especially when you've got a lot of great options to filter through. In terms of affording grad school, that GA position sounds like an amazing start! That's what I'd do, plus little jobs on the side like babysitting. I'll have to think of more!

Hey all - I'm considering Teachers College, Columbia and was wondering what the biking scene is like in the area? Still trying to figure out what area I'd live in if I choose TC, but it looks like there's some good options on the Hudson River Greenway? I don't mind city biking (I currently commute in Boston in warmer weather) but was hoping to get an idea of what the paths are like in the early morning and later at night. Thanks!
  8. I will most likely attend the reception at the end of the day. Unfortunately, I work during the day and cannot take the time off to go to the welcome/presentations.
  9. Thanks for checking! I was wondering what the process was for that. Money is definitely a huge factor in my decision, and I hope it will be favorable for all of us.
  10. Is anyone planning to go to the admitted students day on the 25th? I don't know if I'll be able to take time off from work for that, so I'm wondering if someone could take some good notes!
  11. I wouldn’t say that just yet! They may just be staggering emails for whatever reason. I’ve noticed the TC results are more spread out. Best of luck!!!
  12. I’m kind of in a similar boat. I was waitlisted from UW (MedSLP) and accepted to MGH. I’m happy to have also gotten into other great programs, but that also means I have more of a headache in terms of decision making. It sounds like you’re really hopeful/excited about UW, so I suggest sticking it out! Definitely put down a deposit somewhere you like so you have a spot - you’d have to forgo $$$ but if you got into UW after the April 15 deadline, but it would be worth it! I’m currently debating on my options... The more I think about it, the more overwhelming it is for me to move out to the other side of the U.S.! So east coast it is. :3 I’ll wait it out, but there aren’t many dysphagia researchers at UW and that’s another one of my qualms. MGH is a great program, and Boston is fantastic. You certainly will enjoy your time if you choose to attend. Also, take a pros and cons list and be specific as possible! It might help to visually see what your options are.
  13. My status was updated!! I received an email that told me my decision was available on the portal.
  14. I completely feel this! I applied to 9 schools that were spread across the U.S. anticipating that I would have a difficult time getting into schools... I wish I had cut down on schools I know I didn't want to attend... this is surely a lesson learned haha!
  15. I hope we hear back first thing Monday... they've got to allow a fair amount of time for students to go to that accepted student open house on the 25th. Crossing fingers for everyone!
  16. Congrats! I was waitlisted for MedSLP but hey I’m pretty stoked about that.
  17. The T, bus, and commuter rail will definitely be enough! I also bike and that cuts down on travel (and costs) tremendously. You may want to consider a car depending out your externships, but you definitely don’t NEED to get one now. Parking in Boston is expensive and sometimes hard to find. I do street parking and it’s a nightmare sometimes especially in the winter lol
  18. Hi there! MGH is in Charlestown and there are some nice apartments over there. I don't go over to that area often since it's not "close" to the T but I believe there are shuttle systems from North Station. Are you thinking about bringing a car?
  19. I don't know if it would make a difference. Some schools may have a ranked waitlist, so at that point, I'd assume your "rank" would be as is. What were you planning on saying? What may be more productive is asking feedback about your application - not sure if that is something the admissions committees can feasibly do. Just my thoughts!
  20. I went there for school and stayed in the area to do full time work!
  21. Hey there - yup I went to BU for my undergrad. Most students will live in Allston or Brookline. Brookline is a bit pricier than Allston, but it depends on where you are. Allston has a big bar scene and great restaurants. Both are super close to campus too (Allston is more of a walk from Sargent, but the green line and buses can easily take you there). If you don’t mind the commute, Somerville is great too, but you won’t be close to BU. A lot of college students are there, though!
  22. Someone posted an acceptance a few mins ago - wondering if we'll be hearing back throughout the day! Edit: heh waitlisted but not bummed!
  23. Unfortunately you'd just lose your money if you put deposits at multiple schools... which is annoying because it gets quite $$$. I think it's okay to do that so long as you let the school(s) that you're not attending know, in a timely manner, that you will be pulling your offer.
  24. I wonder if they're holding off on scholarship information until they get a better understanding of who will be accepting their offers... I didn't get offered a scholarship, but it would be great to get more info on it further down the line as we approach April 15th, etc.
