Oh, did you hear back about $ in another letter (separate from the acceptance)?
-
HA it's been a long day... thanks!
-
I’m not sure of the interview process other than that the actual interview is with 2 faculty members!
-
Awesome - thanks! Did you get the schedule on there? Nothing’s attached to the email.

2019 Speech Pathology Graduate Applications
BioCook replied to CajunSLP18's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hey there - I haven’t heard back yet. I made a thread post about BU interviews and another person said they didn’t receive an email either. They said they received the interview invite at around 5pm, so I can imagine it’ll be the same for this! I’ll let you know when I get it though. -
Has anyone heard back about date/time of their individual interviews?
-
LOL that’s how I felt when I found about the results page of TheGradCafe ?

I need a new hobby that doesn’t involve refreshing TheGradCafe or r/slpgradschool ?

I replied directly to the general SLHS email. I’m sure they’re getting a great deal of interview preferences and will work this weekend to schedule interviews. I’m sure we will hear soon! -

Has anyone gotten an interview invite to Boston University yet? I'm trying to figure out how to fill out the interview preferences table. It's very confusing haha... I saw someone posted a similar question on the results page, but was hoping that someone had insight here. Thanks! -
Hi! Did the school offer the option to do a Skype interview due to travel reasons? If it becomes too great a financial burden to travel to a school for a short interview, you're better off doing the interview via Skype. However, if you are able to make travel arrangements financially (and, of course, with timing in mind), I highly suggest going for an in person interview! Here are my thoughts... I have some schools on my list that I have never visited before so if I had a chance to interview, I would love to go travel to the school and see the surrounding area. While you spend a lot of time doing school work, I think the environment of the school (and surrounding area) are super important. If you have time to spend a long weekend, etc. in an area, you can think of it as a mini adventure! Interviewing in person helps truly put a face to the name. You may run into internet issues that may make the Skype interview fairly difficult. While that shouldn't be a real reason, I do believe that being able to shake a person's hand and presenting confident body language helps! It shows your commitment/excitement! Again, schools understand that some applicants (1) travel from very far away or (2) cannot afford the means to travel. While I have had local interviews on the east coast, I know that I cannot dedicate time to travel all the way to the west coast. In BU's email invite, they highly suggested the in person interview (maybe because they also include a tour and a chance for us to speak to current students) but do make accommodations. Phew! I didn't expect my response to be that long.

Hey there! I applied to NYMC, Columbia, and Pitt (although that’s on the other side of PA). Best of luck! Where did you apply?

Does anyone know if we get any scholarship information in an acceptance letter? I know some schools just don't give money, but for schools that have scholarships (especially those with separate applications for those scholarships), when do you hear back? The $$$ definitely plays a role in my decision making, and I want to make sure I allow enough time to consider schools once we're deep into application decision time. Thanks!
-
Yes - there's a Facebook group for NYMC Class of 2021! It looks like you'd need to get an email invitation from the SHSP Communications Coordinator at NYMC. If you just got accepted, you should receive those emails from her soon. I think I got my invite a week or two after my acceptance. Congrats!

Hi there! I didn't think to fill out my FAFSA until I went to apply for an optional scholarship at Teachers College. For one of their scholarships, one of the things I had to do before submitting that scholarship application (separate from the program application) was fill out the FAFSA. At that point, I just did it for all my schools (there's a point where you add the schools you're applying to). I don't think it hurts if you're looking to get some financial aid, work-study, etc. I'm new at this stuff too, so let me know if you find additional info! EDIT: I love the username, @wishiwasbeyonce

Anyone have acceptances yet? (UMD?)
BioCook replied to mangomaddness73's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I submitted my NYMC application on 12/10 and they emailed me on 1/1 to schedule an interview! It was a fairly quick turnaround. -
It must be new to this year! I haven’t seen any results posts about Northeastern interviews before... Keep us posted! When is the interview?

First of all, congratulations!!! It must be very relieving after working very hard on applications. I’ve only heard from one school (NYMC) and it definitely does feel early. NYMC seems to do rolling admissions, so maybe that’s the same at UMD? Hoping to hear back from other schools soon... Based on last year’s decisions, some schools should start getting back to us in mid-Feb! best of luck! -
how do you find out grad acceptance rates?
BioCook replied to jr5555's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
You can also see when the school-specific page was last updated! You can always contact the school if you have specific questions -
Hi! How long are you planning on working in the field before applying for your masters? If you're interested in any research positions, you can always ask clinics and hospitals in your area to see if they have any open positions for paid research assistants (hopefully you'll find a department that's well funded either internally or through some great grants). You can also see if there are any universities in your area with speech departments to see if you can help out in an in-house clinic (or, again, in research) in any capacity, whether that's a more receptionist/admin position, or an actual SLPA. I'm working full-time in the clinical research capacity now, but I have been able to work in the clinical setting too - let me know if you have any questions!

I feel this same way!!! It felt like the application cycle was a full-time gig. 0.o I’ve been able to enjoy my time with friends and family more. I’m catching up on new TV shows, keeping up with the news, and trying out new restaurants. Not sure where you are, but it’s blistering cold where I am, so it feels like I’m even more trapped in the waiting game. Maybe pick up a new hobby? I recently taught myself how to crochet, and I have been knitting too. Creativity is key! Best of luck, friend. We’re in this together!
