Favorite Rejection Quotes from the Results Page
BioCook replied to NoChance's topic in Waiting it Out
This is so real ugh it upsets me when all I see are comments to other results like “hey did anyone hear back yet?” or “to poster below: what are your stats?” -
I wish it was! It’d be my #1 hobby right now haha
-
I’ve started taking up knitting, but I’m curious to know what others have done to keep busy while waiting for decisions!
-
I’m anxious about March because that’s when the majority of schools get back to me eek (which is weird because at the same time, I really want to hear back)

New York Medical College-SLP interview
BioCook replied to SLP1917's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I know you posted this last week, but I'm happy to answer any questions! It was a fairly simple (and quick) small group interview. Be prepared to answer why you'd be a good candidate. Prepare questions for the school/program, too! (e.g. housing, internships/externships, etc) -
Hey there, I'm in a similar position! I asked an undergraduate professor for a recommendation and I applied to that same school for my masters. I don't think it's awkward, especially considering that (1) most applicants apply to multiple schools and use that same letter on different portals and (2) he'd be your POI. Honestly, it might even help that he'd be your POI there because he can speak very highly of you! Best of luck.

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
BioCook replied to ep24's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Following this post - last year (and the year before), they sent out decisions 2/27 and 2/28. I hope that's the same for this cycle too! Definitely should know from UMN by the end of this month ahh! -
This is the BEST Also, look at r/rarepuppers for happy dog distractions!

Here are some thoughts! Prepare: questions specific to the school, ask about housing, teaching opportunities, internships/externships, where recent alum are employed Outfit: slacks, blouse, and heels are acceptable. If the school offers a tour of buildings, etc. just make sure you'll be comfy! Other tips: get there at least 15 minutes early, bring snacks/water, don't bring a massive purse or bag, be friendly Ahh the interview process will feel awkward and tough, but just know that you did your best so long as you prepare! Also, the schools invited you because they liked your application, so you're already on a good side. Try to distract yourself with other activities/hobbies so you don't dwell on interview stuff - it's definitely not just you. I had to do all of this to keep me sane haha

From what I've heard from friends, it's a mix of get to know you and problem-solving questions. It's mainly focused on how you can articulately and genuinely answer questions without necessarily being perfect.

Bringing this thread back - how are you all prepping for the upcoming interviews? Looking at anything special or just general grad school interview questions?

UW-Madison Acceptance Email

I lean towards yes, especially based on the last sentence. Congrats! -
I HATE waiting!!!! Speech-Language Pathology
BioCook replied to Emehteg1's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Omg the big v. small envelopes for college acceptances ahhh! Those were so stressful to wait for. I feel like I’d rather get letters in the mail than refreshing my email and app portals. -
One of my undergraduate professors told me to look up example interview questions for medical school. There’s a bunch of lists online! I changed stuff that weren’t relevant to SLP, but it will keep you ahead of the game. One random question I’ve heard asked it “what was the most recent article you’ve read” so be prepared for random questions like that! Best of luck

Click on the “Status” menu and download an application PDF for any school you’ve submitted for. All of your CSDCAS generate GPAs should be right after your transcript. Let me know if you can’t find it.

NYC SLP Grad Applicants Fall 2019
BioCook replied to SLPapplicant2019's topic in Interviews and Visits
Hi there! I applied to the schools below in my signature. For the NYC area, I applied to NYMC and Columbia and have heard back from NYMC already. Will keep you updated on the Columbia app! -
What are your thoughts about living in NYC for grad school? Just forward thinking about housing situations... I got into NYMC and heard that a fair amount of students reverse commute from the city. If you decided to attend a school in NYC, do you think you'll live in the city (in grad housing or not) or out?
-
Some admissions committees might be doing application reviews in chunks... I know at BU, they do it all at once and let everyone know at the same time. I don't think Northeastern letting you know later is a reflection on you as an applicant!

Hi there! I went to BU for undergrad (graduated 2017) and I am still in the area. DM with any questions. I have a bunch of friends who graduated from engineering too, so I could offer a perspective on that!

I really hated that I rushed to get all my applications in only to wait 3 months to hear back from schools... I wish there was a way to get periodic updates about application status so I'm not waiting in the dark. The silence is ABSOLUTELY awful!

I HATE waiting!!!! Speech-Language Pathology
BioCook replied to Emehteg1's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I need to block all these websites from my work computer during the day haha it's awful how many times I end up refreshing the results pages, etc. Usually people are VERY quick to put their decisions up there, but I still get paranoid!! -
Keep us updated! I'm crossing my fingers, too. Best of luck
