  1. I declined Columbia (and NYMC, although that's not in the city)
  2. Hi! I've lived in the Boston area for a few years and will be happy to help figure out places to live and finding roommates. DM if interested.
  3. MGH IHP has voice and medical concentrations! Also, BU has great research in voice. Boston is a great place to be.
  4. Yes, I did that recently for the first school I put down a deposit for. I felt awkward at first, but they understand that there is a LOT to consider when choosing a grad school. I emailed the program coordinator who then forwarded that email to the appropriate person.
  5. I'll probably do the same thing as @hiimkhanh... I'm 2 years out of school and sure hope that I can cram all the info I learned in college before I start grad school!!!
  6. I just declined offers NYMC and TC. I also removed myself from the University of Washington waitlist.
  7. I sent in my deposit a few months ago to secure my spot, but decided to take another offer. I’m not sure who to email or where to go to do this! Anyone know what to do specifically or who to contact? Thanks in advance, and I hope this helps someone who wants this spot.
  8. Hi there! I will be committing to IHP. I already live in Boston so I’ve got my housing all set... the finances are a whole other demon to face. Let me know if you have any questions on housing. There’s a lot of great options for different price points.
  9. From what I've gathered from other posts/forums, you should be able to put down a deposit for the school you were accepted to so you can secure that spot while you wait for the other schools to notify you about the waitlist decision. You should be able to withdraw by emailing admissions (or if there's a student portal, perhaps there's a withdrawal option). People can get accepted off the waitlist as last as August because there may be a student who withdraws their acceptance because they changed their mind about the school (either they were accepted off a waitlist from a school they were waiting for or they decided not to pursue the degree at all). If you're okay with losing the deposit, then I absolutely recommend putting the deposit down for EWU and waiting to see if you get another offer. Best of luck!
  10. N.Y.M.C. Speech-Language Pathology Class of 2021 It’s a secret group at the moment. Since I joined it in January, only 8 new people have been added (20 right now). It’s not as active tbh so you’re not missing much. Is there a specific question that you need to ask?
  11. Remember that numbers don’t make or break your application!! Your experiences and interests are the things that matter most. I took two years off after college because I had no idea if I wanted to go into speech or find another career, but decided to apply for my first cycle (for fall 2019 start). I work in research for speech. I have a 3.23 overall undergrad GPA (heh I was premed and had some unrelated personal issues) and my final results are 6 acceptances and 3 waitlists. I believe in you! If you receive any negative opinions/comments from professors, friends, or family, prove ‘em wrong.
  12. Hi all - I'm slowly motivating myself to start a budget for when I get to grad school. I currently have one since I am working full-time, but it'll be extremely different once I go back to school full-time. Does anyone here have any templates or tips for budgeting before/during school?
  13. I don't think where you got your degree matters! You will be choosing a PhD program based on who you want as your research mentor, so as long as you can show genuine interest in the research topic/project that you want to pursue, that will mean more than where you received a masters from. I hope that helps to some degree (PUN INTENDED YES)
  14. While I agree with the "go to the cheaper school" option, I also think this is definitely something to consider too! You definitely want to make sure that the cheaper option will still give you the opportunities and placements that you're looking for.
  15. Absolutely! Some applicants decide to take time off for a variety of reasons (i.e. financial, unsure of career). I took time off (1) because I wasn't sure if speech was what I wanted to do and (2) because my undergraduate career wasn't necessarily "competitive." I think working helped me solidify my excitement about the field. Some people know they want to do it right off the bat, which is great! I transferred into speech from another major. If you have experiences that set you apart (like your non-SLP internship and the volunteering), you should feel proud of that and power through undergrad and grad school! If I learned anything from this process, it's that we are all great, deserving candidates and we are better than what we tell ourselves. I think what really helped from my resume were the research projects I had participated in, undergraduate institution, two publications, and military service (not super important, but I'm sure a bit different).
  16. Hi! I didn't take too many notes, but they handed out packets with a lot of good information in there. Happy to send some of that info your way.
  17. Declining offers from Ithaca College, UVM, NYMC, Columbia, and Boston University. Removing my waitlist from UMN, Pitt, and UW (MedSLP).
  18. I agree with this! I’m happy to have chosen a school in the same city I went for undergrad, but I can imagine that moving to and exploring a new, unfamiliar city is something to consider.
  19. There is one but it doesn’t look like the program coordinator hasn’t added anyone recently... You can reach out to Lorena Minnerly If you don’t hear anything soon! Edit: Oh that page is for students who put down a deposit! So I don’t know if there’s one for ALL accepted students
  20. I have a 3.23 undergraduate GPA and have gotten into 6/9 schools with the rest as waitlists (see signature below). It happens! I took 2 gap years and worked the whole time, which I think really helped make my application more favorable. Let me know if you have more questions.
  21. I'm pretty stressed out about it... I'm happy I came out of college with minimal debt, but without scholarships, thinking about paying the full price tag is terrifying.
  22. Is anyone going to the open house and want to say hi/chat for a bit? Excited to meet others in my (potential) future cohort!
  23. I haven’t seen a page for it yet... it might be for invite only once you submit a deposit (NYMC did that). Maybe we should create one!
  24. Cool! I’m 95% sure I’m going to MGH. Maybe we’ll be in the same cohort, my subreddit friend haha
  25. I’ll be going for the whole day! I’ll let you know how it is. PM me if I don’t remember haha
