  1. I applied to 7 but I know people who applied to less. Honestly it's all about whether or not you're willing to go out of state and whether or not your GPA/GRE falls within range with the schools you're applying too. At least that's how I choice everyone chooses different!
  2. Thank you! I had a feeling some schools accept slightly more than the amount of seats they have but was unsure!
  3. I know this is a silly question, but when first round of acceptances go out do programs accept the same amount of people as there are seats or a little more than that knowing people will decline the offer?
  4. Congrats to you too! Thank you for the reassurance! Once I hear back from Lewis about whether or not they've been granted candidacy I'll put my deposit there, it seems like such a great program.
  5. I'll list all the one's in the Chicago area, I hope this helps! Midwestern is a very strong program but it's a little expensive. It has a gorgeous clinic that's 10 minutes from campus. Midwestern also has really good connections with placements!! They also have a swallowing lab. Elmhurst has a very pretty campus and I know the academics are pretty good there. There are a few professors with strong opinions but everyone means well. The client load is manageable and they also have a multicultural emphasis as well as on campus multi-speciality clinic. Rush and Northwestern are probably the absolute best programs in the Chicago area but they're very competitive both have on campus clinics (Rush actually has a hospital) SXU is a good program too, but there materials room is disorganized and their materials are just old, broken, or missing pieces sometimes all the above and the client load does get ridiculous some semesters since you'll have 3-7 clients, be taking 3-4 classes+no credit modules but it's still a good program with great professors and supervisors with an on campus clinic. You won't get any swallowing hours until your medical placement. Lewis is brand new they'll be having their first cohort this coming summer but the program director also created both Midwestern's. Governors State is also a good program you can go part time or full time, very cheap, flexible classes, but there is no cohort style since everyone is taking different classes at different times. Their program is 7 semesters so it could go from 2.5-3 years depending on how you schedule your classes. Clinic also isn't until the final year or final semester so you take all your classes first. No on campus clinic. I haven't heard much about NIU, SIU, WIU, EIU, and UIUC. I just know NIU and UIUC are very competitive, SIU isn't that competitive, and I haven't heard anything about WIU or EIU. Augustana is brand new too I haven't heard anything about it but their first cohort starts fall 2020. Most of these aside from Augustana have on campus clinics.
  6. I don't know much about those programs but try thinking of what you want in a program and see if you can see those things in the schools you are considering. For example for me I want a school that's affordable and close by so I can save on living expanses which is why out of my 3 options I'll be picking Lewis. Another thing to look at is if they have a focus on pediatrics or adults, any disorders that are focused heavily I know Elmhurst has a lot of articulation and language clients, Saint Mary's is mostly pediatrics, Rush is medical etc. I would do research and definitely email schools asking questions about remediation plans and if you are uncharge of finding your own placements I think those 2 are also huge.
  7. Thank you! I was just worried because a professor at my undergrad kind of scared us and said Aurora University had a program bt shut down because it couldn't get enough professors to teach or something
  8. Aw I'm sorry hopefully you hear back from other places soon!
  9. I'm not sure if this is a little early or not but I saw that last years thread for fall 2019 was made almost 1 year ago today! I didn't see a thread for declining acceptance or waitlist offers for Fall/Summer 2020 so I decided to make one! So far I've declined my waitlist offer to Elmhurst College, acceptance offer to Saint Mary's, and may be taking myself off the waitlist for Indiana State. I'll most likely be going to Lewis if they get their accreditation but in case they don't I'll be going to Midwestern in Downers Grove but staying on the waitlist for SXU and GSU!
  10. Check the Elmhurst portal for the status update!! I was waitlisted but I removed myself from the waitlist. Hope this helps someone! If anyone has questions about SXU's program let me know!
  11. Those are all amazing programs!! Northwestern is very research based at least I heard. I don't know much about the other programs but on edFind if you look up the schools and click on them it'll show you the programs specialities/focuses under the contact info at the very top. Maybe visit both schools if you can one more time and meet with a professor or department chair?
  12. One of the school's I have been accepted too is brand new, if I attend I'd be their first cohort. They'll be hearing about their accreditation in a week or two, and once they receive their candidacy for accreditation I think I might put my deposit there. I'm just a little nervous about starting a program that is brand new. The program director created two other grad programs that are very well known and strong programs so I'm sure the academics will be great, but I'm just worried the program will shut down after a year for whatever reason or that they'll lose their candidacy for accreditation standing. Is that likely to happen? Would it be difficult getting a job after I graduate from a new program in candidacy standing?
  13. I got into 1 of my top schools!! A little sad I was waitlisted to my 2 other ones but there is still hope with a waitlist!! I did decline my offer to Saint Mary's already , so whoever is on the waitlist for that program I hope this helps you!!
  14. I see you're applying to university of Tennessee! Have you heard back yet?? I have a friend that's applying too!
  15. I might actually be in this position now that I got waitlisted to my 2 top schools ?. I'm just worried about committing to a school that begins in the summer and getting off the waitlist in the summer when I'm already starting another program I feel like that's a different story than getting off the waitlist before beginning a program
  16. Tbh they do look a lot at GPA and GRE. What' your GPA and GRE if you don't mind me asking?? You don't have to tell me if you don't want too. I just know the ranges they typically accept but a lot of people decline the initial offer. Their waitlist cycle usually goes till August so half the cohort is usually off the waitlist.
  17. I don't really understand the first part of your question. If your CSD GPA is very high like +3.8 and you have a commutative GPA that's below a 3.0 but not too low maybe a 2.9 and GRE scores in the 300s and have relevant experience you should be okay. But as for competitive schools I think what defines a less competitive school is location and how many applicants. Every program wants the best but they also want people who want to attend. Use ASHA EdFind to see how many applicants on average programs get. Saint Mary's doesn't get too many applicants, maybe look for new programs too?
  18. All the undergrad at SXU found out on Valentine's Day. I'm sure you'll find out beginning or mid March. They're really short staffed right now. Elmhurst idk I'm still waiting to hear too!
  19. I think it depends on the school but I'm not sure. Schools want diversity but I don't think that'd be the deciding factor with whether or not you get in or not.
  20. Thank you!! Congratulations to you too!! Did they invite you in a separate email?? I wasn't invited lol
