  1. Hi everyone! I know in the end the decision is up to me, but I really am stuck on what to do. I'm in between Midwestern University in Downers Grove and Lewis University. Midwestern Pros: Very well known and a well established program Great clinic 10 minutes from campus Good connections for off campus placements (including NICU!!!) In an area where there is a lot to do, right next to the mall Midwestern Cons: Very expensive Start out with 20 credit hours for your first semester Further away from my house which would make commuting on bad weather days very difficult No GA positions just work study Lewis Pros: The program founder also founded both Midwestern's so I have a feeling it'll be a good program. They also already have clinical partnerships with nearby schools and clinics. Their semesters are divided into terms. So Summer term 1 you learn the material and in term 2 is when your clinic will be. So you won't be taking classes while in clinic (or will be taking 1 class with clinic) Closer to home Less expansive than Midwestern You only take 3 classes at a time and still finish in a 2 year time frame Lewis Cons: Brand new program I'd be their first cohort, they just got their applicant for accreditation today No on campus clinic The program isn't very well known like Midwestern Since it's a new program there aren't any GA or scholarship opportunities within the major, but you can still apply for GA positions outside the department I thought the decision would be easy and I would just gravitate towards Lewis but I'm really unsure of what to do. Distance and an on campus clinic are very important to me and one university has the on campus clinic and one university is closer and cheaper.
  2. I don't think so!! Tbh they seem pretty slow at responding to emails in general anytime I email them I never receive a response except for when they reached out to me to tell me my video link wasn't working. I just want to know where I am to see if it's worth staying on the waitlist
  3. Oooh really?? Let me check now, I didn't know that! Where can I find that? At the top or bottom of the page?
  4. Good luck to you too! Yeah I'm sure they hope it won't happen but they know it's bound too since people get waitlisted or even put down deposits to 2 schools then drop one because they can't decide all the time so no matter your reasoning for dropping a deposit it happens all the time
  5. Yeah I'm definitely going to feel bad doing that if I get in off the waitlist to one of the schools I wanted to attend. But I'm trying to think of the positives: 1. You aren't the first or last person to do this 2. Someone on the waitlist who might not have gotten in anywhere will be super excited to have gotten in 3. It'll make you happy in the end
  6. That's weird how they don't announce the admission decision till May/June! You could always put the deposit down for the school you already got in, and if you get into the other school drop the deposit if you really want to go there and put a new one down. It'll suck losing the deposit but if the other school really is the one you want to go too it'll be worth it, and your spot will just go to someone on the waitlist.
  7. Does anyone know when the waitlist will be available on Indiana State's website? I've emailed the program director a week ago and still haven't recieved a response, and their website says "Check back after 2/20"
  8. Omg wow congratulations that sounds amazing and those are such great programs!! Personally I would choose U of I, even though I really do hate the weather here, what they are offering you is really great and you wouldn't be in any debt or have to worry much about living expenses. Downside: The town is sort of in the middle of nowhere Vanderbilt is amazing and they've also offered you a very generous financial aid package it sounds like! I think the Autism track is very cool, and will definitely give you a leg up when it comes time to apply for jobs since you'll already have taken specialty classes and have had relevant clinical experiences. Downside: Student loans Maybe make a list of the pros and cons and see which of the cons are more favorable to you?? I was always told not to worry too much about student loans since you'll definitely get a job that'll help pay them off, but then again if you can avoid student loans...
  9. I think it'll cause a delay but at least at what I've heard faulty and staff can come in or do work remotely.
  10. I've heard back from all my schools thankfully! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!
  11. I heard it's a beautiful campus! Hopefully you'll get a chance to visit soon
  12. SXU extended it's spring break and no clinic this week. I'm an undergrad so it does suck but the grad students must be really struggling now
  13. That's an actual class where you learn about clinic, SXU has it too so that's how I know! I took Elmhurst off just because it's further from my house, and I got into schools a little closer and I figured I could probably stay on the waitlist for the schools that are closer by (30 minutes) and most likely attend. It was nothing about the program, I'm sure it's great. It's just the distance wasn't for me.
  14. Most schools let students know after April 15th. Every school does it differently, but usually acceptances for those on the waitlist go out once a month until the cohort is filled. It could also be rolling too, I've just heard about rounds not rolling. Most schools are pretty private and won't tell you where you are, but Indiana State has a list online (still not uploaded yet). Whoever rejects an acceptance the spot goes to someone on the waitlist. For ranked waitlists people do move up when a waitlist is rejected for unranked I don't think so but it betters the chance since less people are on the waitlist now.
  15. I think if you have a high post bacc GPA (+3.4) and do well on the GRE (+290) you'll definitely have a chance! Looking at the average stats schools on EdFind accept and seeing if you're in range helps too
  16. If it helps, anytime I saw your stats in your signature I thought to myself that you'd definitely get in because your stats are amazing!
  17. I know this isn't as helpful as physically visiting the school, but some universities have virtual tours on their websites. Of course, seeing city would be harder since cities usually don't have virtual tours. But maybe having a virtual tour of the campus might work until you can physically go?
  18. I just checked their website and it said admission decisions will be mailed by March 15th. I'm guessing the delay is caused by the university being closed due to the coronavirus
  19. I have friends that went there for grad school and undergrad! Most of their clients are language and articulation but they still have a mix of everything so you still get the hours you need. Half the cohort is usually from their undergrad due to their direct admit, they don't really overload you with clients it's about 2-3, smaller clinic but it's on campus which is nice, they have a multicultural emphasis which is cool, 3/5 of the professors are very nice the 2/5 are either indifferent to you or are kind of cold (from what I've heard but take it with a grain of salt since everyone has their favorite/least favorite professors). They have a partnership with Gigi's Playhouse so one of your placements might be there (at their main site near campus). Overall it's a good program will get you your CCCs/where you want to go and prepare you. It just has it's pros and cons like every school. I can ask my friends that currently go there any questions you have if it'll help!
  20. I agree with Madison. There are some schools that have certain focus (Rush university is medically focused) so they can provide you with a lot of different medical clinical opportunities which employers would like if you'd want to be a medical SLP. But as long as you have your CCC's and solid clinical experiences I don't think names matter.
  21. I just responded, "Thank you for the waitlist offer. I am still very much interested in ____ for graduate school" or something. Short and sweet while still expressing interest!
  22. Last year they heard between March 8th-March 11th (I checked the results page of GradCafe) so I'm guessing you'll be hearing sometime this week!
