  1. Hey everyone! Hope y'all have been well. So far I've been accepted at Northern Michigan, CU Boulder, and University of Miami. I turned down the first two, but today I got a waitlist email from Indiana for poetry-- Is there anyone else on here that applied for poetry at Indiana and did (or did not) get this email? It was really form-like and I'm trying to figure out if they just waitlist everyone. Also--are there any other university of Miami admits on here that would want to talk? Thanks y'all!!
  2. Thanks so much for this. I totally echo this sentiment. This is my second year applying too and I'm already getting discouraged but the past year has been so amazing and I've met new people, gained new influences, and developed personally in ways I couldn't have if I had been accepted anywhere last year. I just have to keep reminding myself that there's so many things that I can do, and that no matter I'll keep writing. Congrats on all the acceptances and waitlists, y'all! Lets keep em coming!
  3. Got moved to Phase II of Ole Miss for poetry! Woohoo! I saw someone post about getting a voicemail from Indiana, but nothing about acceptance just like a general voicemail. Has anyone else heard back from them (Indiana) ?
  4. yep seems like everyone else is getting the same... brace yourself, rejection is coming ?
  5. I just got an email telling my status changed but its still update pending :???
  6. anybody else's umass application portal say "update pending"?
  7. UMass sending poetry acceptances out?
  8. Also, don't know if anyone else applied for Indiana, but here's part of the email they sent me when I finished my application. "Your application file will be advanced to the Admissions Committee in January, where it will receive its deserved full attention. Generally our committee has completed its first round of readings by the first week of February and have begun to make offers of admission. It is possible for applicants to be offered admission up to April 15th, depending on the acceptance rate from our first round." That's this week ?
  9. Welcome! I think we're all feeling that sense of anxiety, so we're in this together. Good luck!
  10. Congrats everyone on their acceptances!! I'm hoping there's a lot more of those posts in the next couple weeks-- for Ole Miss, I think they said they'll post the names of their phase 2 applicants on their website and contact those people. I'm a little nervous about my Ole Miss application because in the last poem in the manuscript there was a period at the end of the line that shouldn't have been there, but I didn't want to contact them again because I had already spoken to them...also I decided the period might actually work lol. So many Fiction acceptances! What's going on, schools?? (cough cough, UMASS and Purdue) Seems like poetry would go out first or at the same time since there's typically less poetry applicants.
  11. Has anyone heard about Purdue notifying poetry applicants? There's only fiction on the results page
  12. Wow that's really cool! I don't think I've read much welsh poetry, do you have any recs for me? Also, it looks like they really engage with whatever type of translation you want!
  13. Thanks so much! and yesss!!! UNLV looks like such a great program, it would be so cool to learn more about translation and study abroad!
  14. Thanks for the support y'all! I applied 16 places, but my top are Michener, New Writers Project, Purdue, UMass Amherst, and UNLV. Looks like Purdue started notifying today ?
  15. Hey y'all, just found this forum! I'm applying to poetry MFA's and this is my second round. Last year I got waitlisted at Michener and NYU but didn't get in anywhere. I'm starting to get super discouraged now that the acceptances are going out, but I'm glad I found a thread of people who are in the same waiting boat.
  16. Well, only a week until April 15th. Good luck to all my other waitlisted people!
  17. I can't tell you much about Portland State, but I can say this-- I would kill for an oppurtunity to work with D.A. Powell or Ari Banias at University of San Francisco! Jennifer Cheng & Micah Ballard too. They're all incredibly talented & I know from reading many interviews of Powell that he's a passionate and innovative teacher. If I don't get into Michener off the waitlist I'm about to move to Berkeley & and work on writing for another year before reapplying. The whole Bay Area--SF, Oakland, and Berkeley-- just has such a great writing community that I think that would be another benefit of U of SF. Good luck choosing!
  18. My friend has heard back from riverside for poetry, and was waitlisted. Congrats on Queens College!
  19. I'm not sure about the waitlist, they couldn't tell me any information on it; but I feel like I am high up at least because the director of the program in his email (which I know wasn't a form email because he misspelled my name haha) said that he really admired my work and would love to have me there. I just really hope someone declines, this program is truly the dream and if not I'll have to do god knows what to do for the next year until I reapply places. Do you think it's a bad idea for me just to call back and just let them know I'm still interested?
  20. I'm in pain here y'all. I'm trying to figure out what I'm gonna do for the next year, waiting to see if I make it off the waitlist and into Michener for poetry. I don't think there's a chance of me getting in but I don't understand why everyone wouldn't have accepted by now if they were notified a month and a half ago...so maybe someone is waiting to get in somewhere else off a waitlist just like I am waiting to get into Michener. I suppose I'll have to wait till April 15th... If anyone knows anyone who got accepted into Michener for poetry and might turn down let me know, this is killing me.
  21. Well I've been rejected almost everywhere...still waiting on Brown and NYU (though they've already sent out acceptances so...). HOWEVER, I did get waitlisted for Michener which is completely wild. Does anyone know how the waitlist works-- I'm a poetry applicant, so does a poetry admit have to decline in order for me to get accepted? Or is the waitlist rated regardless of genre and the next person gets admitted regardless of the genre the declinee (shouts out to english majors making up words) applied in? Thanks for any info!
  22. Ahhhhhhh. Been rejected from OSU, UMass Amherst, and Michigan so far. Starting to get discouraged but I just have to keep reminding myself I'm doing this because I love writing and whether or not I get in, I'll continue to write and get better and reapply later! Good luck to all of you!
  23. I didn't get in! Oh well we are still living. I started an acceptance forum though!
  24. I got rejected but hey seven more so I'm keeping optimistic! Also, I started an acceptance forum if anyone wants to join in on that!
