Congratulations on your acceptance! Laurier is well-regarded in the social work field and one of the few universities in Canada that specialize in clinical practice. As both programs are accredited by CASWE, you will be getting a solid foundation for future social work practice regardless of which university you choose.
While I do not know your personal career aspirations, I would say that it is important to think about what you would be getting out of UofT's MSW program that you wouldn’t already be getting at Laurier. If you are thinking about a career in academia or if you plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work, then absolutely, these differences might matter as you would want to work closely with a faculty member whose research interests align with yours.
However, if you are thinking about working right after graduation, it is arguably more important to tailor your field placements towards your desired area of practice, network with established professionals in the province that you want to practice in, and ensuring that you meet the educational and supervised work experience requirements to be registered as a social worker in the appropriate provincial college/association.
Hope this helps with making your decision!

Does anyone know when the universities announced last year that classes would be online due to covid?
Also I am deferring my acceptance to King's/Western, so hopefully someone on the waitlist there will get off soon.

I believe you were looking at the main campus in Vancouver. I had wanted to apply to that program as well but the 2 year program was suspended so the only option was Okanagan!

Guys.. I just received an email:
"Congratulations - you have been offered admission to Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, and we congratulate you on achieving this next step in your educational goals. Laurier offers a unique graduate experience, including the opportunity to pursue research and scholarly interests in a personalized environment that fosters a high standard of academic excellence."
I was honestly surprised that they sent out my OGS rejection last week before my acceptance, I thought they would send it out the opposite way. But anyway, I am still pretty lucky to have gotten into the program! For those of you wondering, my last name starts with a C so it's probably going alphabetically.
U of T is my first choice but I was waitlisted there. Does anyone have insight on Laurier's program compared to U of T?? Is it more or less clinically based or social justice oriented?

Thank you! I obtained a lot of experience working with international students, in a leadership capacity. I have a mix of work and volunteer experience. I finished my studies two years ago and I have gotten a lot of experience providing support (recreation and daily living skills) to variety of individuals who have developmental, intellectual, and physical disability as well as mental illness. If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me!

Congrats!!! Laurier is more socially justice oriented, but there are some courses that will prepare you for clinical type work. Not as clinical as U of T.

Hey guys, I was wondering if there are people who got accepted or waitlisted to UofT, and UofT isn't their first choice? Or if there's anyone who's first choice is Western rather than UofT?
Also is there anyone who got accepted to UofT who wants to defer their acceptance...I am curious if UofT will even allow for many people to do that and if that would make any different difference for us waitlisted folks!

Hi all, I've been lurking awhile but made an account to post about my decision. Got an email at 1am last night on the dot informing me about my decision - I got waitlisted, last name R.
Although obviously I would've preferred an acceptance, I don't feel too badly about being waitlisted at the end of the day - this was my first time applying to any grad program after finishing undergrad in June 2020, and I was mainly applying to the MSW in hopes that it would serve as a good precursor for me eventually applying to law school (I'm super interested in the intersections between mental health and the law, and I thought SW would be a useful background to have). I feel like I learned a lot from this application cycle and although I'm not sure that I'll reapply to social work programs in the fall, I feel more confident now about the prospect of applying to law schools going forward.
Big big congratulations to everyone who was accepted to U of T, and best of luck to everyone in their future endeavors!!

This might sound stupid, but to test my theory, could whoever applied to U of T like this comment?
I know that there are probably some people who applied to U of T that aren't on here but this might just give us a ballpark?

Hey there... my last name is C too so I am anxiously hoping to get into U of T, and then as soon as I do (if I do) I will reject my offer to Western.

Hey everyone, I just came up with another idea which is to post anything related to U of T in this group, that way we won't bombard everyone who isn't interested in U of T with our comments since there's so many! lol
And the amount of people that will follow this group could potentially indicate the amount of people that applied?
    Hopefully this will work!

I wonder if U of T is rolling out admissions based on their top choices and then tomorrow they will start all over again from A-Z? Just a thought that gives me a slight amount of hope.
